There is no shame in wanting a decent salary as a nurse, especially if you have loans to pay back. Helping people is huge a bonus that comes with the job but the salary is important too. I would hate to imagine how drastically the quality of care would drop if nurses were getting paid similar to a full time Walmart employee while being overworked and under appreciated.

@zulmakarnacha
@zulmakarnacha 6 жыл бұрын
I have a family member who is a Physician Assistant, Register Nurse, Licenced Vocational Nurse, Certified Nurse Assistant. the more you go up the latter more paperwork more drugs but less physical contact with patients. from all 4, I noticed the CNA always complaining about nurses, the one on top always complaining not enough sleep. the RN always complaining how much stress, the LVN who wants to do more but limited with school training.im guessing to be humble and test if you are for the money or title or for helping, all shold be required to get their CNA first then be allowed to apply for med school or nursing degrees. but same time, must have their paycheck raised since they all deal with peoples lives and its not same as studing for an associate in computers (no offence to those who are)

best of luck in your school and career. I have natural patience and concern for people but i dont if i could have the patience to deal with diva attitudes and trying to see patients just as numbers or if i saw that the hospital is most concern is saving money from patients care, when knowing they are getting paid for what they are providing....again, a family member who studied for billing and coding lol

Been a nurse for 2 months & already planning for a second job🥴 Taxes are robbing us out of $12,000 a year easily nor to mention the money we get deducted with benefits. I definitely chose nursing because of my passion to help people, but I wish we got a little more without the hassle.

MHSMagicLuver $21 here is the lowest per hour for most jobs, I work for a private aged care home. The public hospital in my town pays the cleaners $30 an hour and they do far less than us. And yes maccas employees get paid a lot especially if you become a manager. Everything is also ridiculously priced here and it's hard to live on $21 an hour. There's also no opportunities for assistant nurses so you have to get a degree in nursing to go anywhere and earn real money.

@@kaim1810 hi this is super late but did everything work out for you? its been two so i hope you were able to successfully switch your major. but aslo, nurses don’t spend that much time at work. they can work monday-friday 7am to 4:30pm and off the weekends so its great for families as well :)

@@fatoulo2226 Just an update, I ended up not going back to school for nursing. I tried to go for my masters and ended up taking a break from school to figure out what I really wanted. I ended up switching to a new job 6 months later still making roughly the same with yearly pay raises. I work for the federal government if that helps. This year things started to really pay off for me. I accepted another job with a promotion and includes a guaranteed promotion the next year. Not to mention its in an area where opportunities flow for government employees. I really enjoy being able to be off on weekends with my daughter. We've had our own little groove going since I became a salaried employee. I think I didn't really want our lives to change too much. And if I really wanted to I could apply for jobs in another three years that would put me at making over 100k a year, which I probably won't just to develop myself a little. I've been chasing the career for so long and this past year has really showed me what I really want in life. I just turned 32 today and life has been great. It took going through some obstacles and changing, but I can definitely say I'm happy. Sorry so long, but ladies, go out there and get what you want! If its being a nurse, doctor, whatever. There's no limit.

Another thing, my college is connected to a hospital. (Like there's a tunnel in the basement that takes us to the hospital) and that hospital pays time and a half for over time and holidays where as the hospital 20 minutes from here more in the down town area pays DOUBLE time for over time and DOUBLE time AND A HALF for holidays. So do your research before excepting a job people!

Unfortunately in my area new grads with associate and BSN get paid the same in any department. No special rate for critical care units or more specialized units. The 3 big hospitals have a 25 CENTS difference between them. How do I know? I talked to HR and friends that already have job offers on ICU, ED, and med surg units. The huge difference comes with benefits and differential pay rates because some hospitals use a percentage or a set dollar amount. Overtime pay changes from unit to unit. At my hospital, all other units you must hit 40 hours to start getting the overtime pay but at my department if there is a need and the charge nurse asks you to stay longer then you get paid time and a half. The system drives me crazy sometimes. Thanks for another great video 😊

Nurse Liz it’s very unfortunate. Recently they started a career ladder at my hospital. Basically if you have certifications, BSN, and worked as a charge nurse and preceptor for two years then you get a ONE time 3% hourly raise. If your hourly rate is already small, it doesn’t make any sense to go through all that trouble. Nurses don’t want to do it because if you worked as a charge nurse you get paid an extra $2/ hour plus all the stress, and no extra pay with being a preceptor. Nurses really doesn’t want to do it.

In Canada specifically Saskatchewan, where i live, registered nurses make about $45 an hour canadian, or $35 american. If you have a full time job and are not casual, ANYTHING you pick up which aren't your regular scheduled hours are overtime. So, if you are working 12 hour shifts, you work 12 - twelve hour shifts in a 4 week period, and then also get a "stat off" which is an 8 hour day you get paid for without working, so you could work 1 shift one week, and 4 shifts the next week, doesn't matter as long as it's 12 shifts within that allotted 4 week period. Obviously if you work a stat, you get paid stat pay which is time and a half. If you pick up any overtime you get paid double time, so $90 an hour. Now if you have a part-time or casual position (casual is where you don't have regular scheduled hours, you just pick up what you can where you can) you have to work 12 - twelve hour shifts and an 8 hour shift before it is considered overtime because you don't get that "stat off" like full time nurses get. Also, if you work the night shift you get what is called shift differential, which you make like and extra dollar or something an hour, or if you work a weekend you get what is called bonus pay, which you get paid an extra sum of money for any day you work on the weekend (don't remember how much it is off the top of my head). Now licensed practical nurses or LPN's make a bit less at about $36 canadian dollars an hour, which is still pretty good and all the same rules to full time, casual, part time jobs and overtime and such is the same! Anyways, I just thought some people would like to know how it works in Canada, or at least the province I work in!

I don't get what people mean when they say "you'll never be rich as a nurse" I have friends working @ my old job in retail, single moms with no help from anyone, they hustle on their own, they only make around $25k a year and they still make it and don't complain. My aunt has her bsn here in tx and she makes almost $80k a year, she DOES drive a luxury car, DOES live in a nice neighborhood, gets to travel/shop a lot, etc. granted, she doesn't have kids and she's married and her husband makes a decent amount of money too but she still makes substantially more than him. So I don't get what people mean, maybe you won't have a lambo like she said or live in a mansion but you're still making more money than the middle class population...especially nps who's salaries are in the $100,000s. Like what more do you need sounds good to me! Be happy w/ what you have...

I’m glad you mentioned cost of living to salaries. Some of these cheerleader nurses from California think and boast as if they’re rolling in it but fail to mention how much their rent/mortgage (if they can even qualify for a mortgage), taxes etc. Maybe they assume living out there is the same as living in other states thus they brag about their salary. All salaries are relative people to your standard of living for a common field job. You really think Doctors in Topeka and Sioux City are making the same as Los Angeles and New York City doctors? Again- salary to environmental cost standards are always in play.

I live in Canada, its a little bit opposite where I am.. the nurses here that choose to live more RURAL (that is almost middle of nowhere), actually make more because they are more in demand. We even have a student loan repayment assisstance (that is for Ontario anyways), where you move to a remote location for a period of time and they knock a few thousand off your student loans per each year you're there. *Side note: night shift premiums are also nice (if you're willing to live like a zombie aha) Thanks for the video :)
