@@yt_nh9347 She said that her teacher told her that because she was black she couldn't go to Oxford, and yes there is a large competition between Asian students to go to elite universities but in that instance being Black was not ideal. There's the idea that "Black people are dumb" and they constantly have to push forwards to prove everyone wrong. As people of colour we have to stick together and push each other up. You guys need to stop diminishing your personal accomplishments in the comments. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what college you go to as long as you are striving to be the best person you can be. You can network, work hard, and succeed at your own pace and at your own merit.

But guess what? She didn’t give up and she didn’t diminish her personal achievements. That makes her very admirable.

Nonsense. We all know that’s not true. Oxford is seen better than Greenwich for example. Of course it matters.
@jenjen33844 жыл бұрын
It’s obvious that he/she wasn’t comparing colleges. One college is seen better doesn’t mean that all the kids that go there are better. And I believe getting a good job doesn’t associate with going to a good college, an INTERVIEW is there for a reason. Stop pressuring the matter of getting into an Ivy League college because it’s trivial and negative. It matters if you get into a college that helps you learn and thrive, not its reputation.

Honestly you're such an Inspiration! As a British Asian female I was always told by my parents or teachers even colleagues that I should stay in my lane. I decided to work full time after college to experience life and when I was deciding to go to university a colleague of mine said what is the point, most likely I'll end up like every other Bengali girl and end up married with kids before I get a chance to kick-start my career. Even when I decided to pursue engineering as a degree my parents weren't all for it and definitely didn't favour me pursuing a postgrad because they wanted me to finish education and get on with my life (get married and have kids). I decided Todo what was best for me and this September I will be starting a graduate job that will be paying me in excess of £50,000 a year whilst I pursue my masters at imperial college in London. And yes I one day would like to settle down and start a family, but it doesn't have to be either or.

I love and support you so so much, you are such an inspiration! What an achievement! You work so hard and I really look up to you. It must have been really hard to be told that you weren't good enough -- But at least you did it anyway. It just shows that believing in yourself and not giving up is KEY! The only thing that needs to be said is that you don't need to be 21 yrs old to do this, it's still an achievement for anyone / any mature students. Everyone has different timelines, people take gap years, sometimes education is disrupted etc.. Don't feel pressured to achieve all of this before you are 21, or by any specific age - age is not relevant in this. Oxford and Harvard are achievements in their own rights! One gentleman messed up his a levels very badly. He had already failed his GCSE's. He couldn't get into any universities at all, so he worked for a few years and went back as a mature student. But he worked extremely hard during that degree. He wanted to prove that his previous grades did not define him, and that he was better than the stereotype that people had of him. He is now currently a lecturer, has published books and does a lot of work in places with low rates of progression into higher ed to encourage people to not take their education for granted. When people put him down, told him that he wasn't good enough, that he had already missed his chance and that he should just give up, he stood firm. He did his utter best, despite the negativity. He is still a success. Your age does not define you. What you choose to make of yourself does. (Aimed at anyone who is insecure about not achieving things by the normal 'timeline' - you can do it when you put your mind to it, even if it takes you 10 years. Just don't give up!) I hope that you are proud of yourself for not letting those teachers persuade you from not applying. Standing up against those people and doing what is right for you is so inspirational. You are inspiring so many people with your own personal story about applying, and your content is superb. Another lovely video!

Absolutely loved this video!!! Since I was 16, I’ve had the dream to go to Colombia university for masters and for a period of time I felt as if maybe it just wasn’t for me. I’m doing my first year bachelors and I was demotivated after having received a dissatisfactory grade for my assignment and I felt as if it was the end of the world, as if Colombia is just going to stay a dream forever. But then my best friend guided me to your channel and ever since then I’ve had no regrets! Thank you so much from the bottom of your heart, your message really stuck with me. I was looking at my past A level years and now what I’m doing currently, and everything points me to this path, to the direction I had set my mind to since 16.
