Thanks for being honest about how you got your job. Some people make it seem as though they got their job purely because of their own effort, that you can get any job as long as you follow certain How-Tos as if everything can be obtained through individual effort, which is not very true.
@RecipeforSuccess12 жыл бұрын
It's true - there's always going to be some balance between luck and individual effort. If we knew how much each impacted the other, maybe we'd all have more of what we want! I definitely believe in being prepared (because that's what you can control) but appreciate that opportunity may not come to everyone who deserves it.

Hi Brent - I'm sorry to hear that. Are you looking for roles that list the PMP as a preferred certification? Or reached out to anyone you know working as a PM to see if their companies are hiring?

Hey! Thank you for all of your videos on project management. They have been really helpful. Since you've researched the field well, I'd like to know if it is possible for someone with social sciences degree to get a PM job? I know this video is on similar lines but as per my own research, I found out that those with business/ finance and tech make it through easily. Also, what are some learnable skills that people from non-tech/social science background can learn to find or create a place in the given sphere. Often, there are rigid requirements, so it is difficult to apply for an entry level job. I hope to get a reply. Thanks :)
@RecipeforSuccess13 жыл бұрын
Hi Nimisha, it's definitely possible. I used to recruit for one of my previous companies and any degree was fine for the PM role. I think if you're coming at it with a social science degree, it might be helpful to think about and focus your resume on what special skills you bring to the table. Are you a people person and work especially well with a team? If so, highlight that in your resume! Or does your experience in social studies mean you have an especially high emotional quotient? That's how I would tackle it. Good luck!
@nimishapathak1993 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a good idea. Thank you for your response :)
@einrin. Жыл бұрын
i think it varies in different countries. from where i am PM is considered a high position job and most if not all of the openings here require at least 5 years of experience and i have never seen an entry level PM position. most would get to a PM position from first working as an executive level with hands on project experience.

Hey, Emma thanks for sharing your story. I am an assistant professor of sociology but want to change my domain to project manager. but I don't have technical skills like coding and all. Just need your advice from where to start.
@RecipeforSuccess13 жыл бұрын
Hi Papori - If I were in your shoes, I'd start by doing some research into project management jobs (what skills do you need, experience, etc) and ask around my network for anyone who is a PM or works with a PM to do an 'informational' interview. Then I'd see where the gaps are in my experience and resume and try to determine the best way to fill those gaps OR if I already have the right experience to apply for jobs. Lastly, if I didn't have any exposure to project management and couldn't find anyone to talk to me about it, I would probably consider some PM education to confirm that I like the work before committing to such a big change. I wish you the best of luck!
