Thanks for watching. Yet another featherlite and yet another problem. This time the fuel lines needded to be replaced and after that was fixed the primer bulb wasn't working. Once that was worked out it needed a slight carb adjustment.

Great video. I have a Weed Eater exactly like this one, I bought it 14 years ago "refurbished" from Big Lots for $39. It has been a real workhorse over the years, trimming weeds sometimes three feet high. I need to get it tuned up and replace the fuel lines; yes I know, a new Weed Eater like this one is less than $100, but like everyone else here, I prefer to repair rather than replace.

Got one of these at the dump. No word on what was wrong with it but didn’t start. Cracked fuel lines, carb was dirty but diaphram etc all good. Got it cleaned up, new lines, new bulb. Now it runs but idles rough, bogs out when throttling up… Quits, with a puff of smoke out the carb. I suspect the idle settings but I don’t have a spline tool.

Recently, after the successful usage for over 20 years, my P1500 Poulan Weed Eater finally decided it was a little tired and wouldn't stay running. Other than an occasional cleaning, no parts had ever been replaced since it was new, so I decided it may be time to replace the fuel filter, gas lines and primer bulb. Noticing just how grungy, "but never abused," it was with oil, dust and exhaust debris, I ended up tearing it completely down to just the engine itself. The main cover containing the pull-cord had a really bad buildup of oil debris built up inside the housing, and planning on using a degreaser, not wanting to get the cord all nasty, I removed the cord spool and the windings came flying out. It was a nightmare and definitely an art to get it rewound and back in after amazingly only three tries, and actually one-upped it a round or two for a better recoil of the cord. I wouldn't recommended anyone to do this and I myself sure won't be doing that again!! LOL Anyway, I got it all back together, filled it with gas/oil mixture and it wouldn't even spark. I pulled the plug, and amazingly it somehow still looked new, but cleaned it up anyway. Still nothing, and the new bulb wouldn't fill, so I put the original back in, but while doing so, noticed that when the small carb part came off with it, that the screen was all but covered in a black substance, so very carefully, rubbed and removed most that I could see, reassembled, primed, and it fired right up and ran like it was new. The full choke, it appears, doesn't do anything now, but time will tell, the bulb doesn't fill completely, and non-stop air bubbles continue on the return line. I really don't mind, as long as it will run smoothly, as I have never paid much attention in the past, but are continuing bubbles normal?? I think I'll pull the whole carb apart and check it out for proper functions. By the way, it was a Very Nice and Informative Video!! Thanks!! BTW, I got my new filter, fuel lines and primer bulb from Amazon for a mere $7.00 and they arrived in only three days. The insides of the fuel lines seem to be a touch smaller, but I was still able to connect to the filter and fittings with a little more effort and the fuel still flows well through them. .

I have a mowing business right now,and have been mowing yards now for over 30 years.when I first started I bought me 2 of these weed eaters in featherlites in the curved shafts,then about 5 years later I bought me some more in straight shafts.and the motors on them were not worth 2 cents,so I took the straight shafts off and put them on my old curved shaft models and both weed eaters served me for almost 15 years.the older green weed eater models motors where really great motors compared to today's new green weed eater brands,but now I own 13 husqvarna weed eaters and my favorite is the husqvarna model 322l now and I have 3 of them just for me to use only now.the guys that work for me are forbidden to touch or use them at all now,I have other husqvarna for them to use or most of my guys own and use there own like stihl or echo.me I'd love to find some of the old green weed eaters and rebuild the motors this winter and use them when needed I still have parts like shafts and old broke motor parts laying around in my old work garage where I keep my mowers and lawn equipment now!!!!!

Excellent video! I see you and others taking a 2 cycle like this, making it run and am amazed. I've been fighting with a Craftsman trimmer for months now. Last season it just started siphoning fuel out through the carb. Was running fine and died. Looked at it and realized it was siphoning the fuel right out the back. I've torn the carb completely down and can blow air through all the ports. At least the ones it seems like should be open. Diaphragm and gaskets all look to be in great shape. I've watched Walbro's video explaining how the carb is supposed to function. After reassembly, it will run with a blast of carb clear without the fuel system primed. As soon as I fill it and prime the system, it won't start and causes the siphoning to start again. At a loss for why it would do that. Any ideas? Hate to replace it when I'm sure it's probably something simple that I just don't know about.

Thank you Jay H for the comment I appreciate it. I buy the fuel line at Ace hardware otherwise you can buy on Ebay or Amazon. Yes I think they are worth fixing until a certain amount. As far as yours I would suggest a carb and fuel system inspection and if needed a carb adjustment.

The kill switch is an easy fix. I particularly like the switches on Stihl equipment. They are spring loaded to reset to the run position when you release them. @@HomeGaragechannel I will try that. I am at the point where I either buy a new spark plug or throw the damn thing in the dump. It is ten years old, only used once or twice, has lived in a winterized shed, and I have inherited it. I have taken apart the carb - everything works/moves and looks brand new, and I have gone at it with brake/parts cleaner. Replaced the fuel hoses - they crumbled the first time I touched them. QUESTION: the intake to the squeeze bulb primer is the LOWER of the two hose nipples, correct? (The return is the TOP one?) Gas is correct mix, fresh, and I put in an ounce of Sea Foam just for kicks. What is frustrating is that it ran FINE for about 15 minutes after I replaced the hoses, was working at edging the flower beds, and then it started acting up. Electric is looking very good right about now!

Don't adjust the carb without the foam air cleaner in place. 2 cycle motors are very sensitive to pressure and suction and both the exhaust and the intake. That's why you're getting a bad throttle response from slow idle.

thank you for the video, i was able to get my hand me down featherlite weedeater to run. mine is a bit older than the one in your video but the problem i have is that the head runs/spins at idle! i tried taking off the throttle cable completely (in case it was pulling/binding) and it continues to spin at idle. i tried backing off the idle screw completely and it still spins! there is only a low carb adjustment which slowed down the spinning but not by much. Is this a clutch issue? not sure if these models have clutches or not. thank you

I haven't used a 2 stroke trimmer in years but I thought they used to smoke a little bit. Aren't they supposed to smoke a little, to ensure to the operator that they're running on the rich side of the air/fuel mixture? I'm using premix fuel in a can, must be really clean burning, almost no odor either... I used several of your videos to rejuvenate a Weed Eater FL20 so that's why I ask. Many thanks.

you know i never really pay attention to the exhaust. i always mix my fuel with the same oil at 40:1 and some of my trimmers smoke and some don't. as long as I have it running slightly on the rich side i really don't care if it smokes a lot or not at all. I think it should smoke a tiny bit but if it smokes too much there might be some piston ring damage.

Yes the carb is running out of gas to deliver to the engine, and that's why it races right before it dies. The tools Are NOT specific to the model. that's why the tools usually come in a kit with various styles to account for the unpredictability of the screws you might encounter. So when you hit the throttle and it bogs out, what is the issue? You turned the low idle screw out 1/2 turn. Is this making the engine run richer at low idle? Our machine has this issue.
@HomeGaragechannel

yes and theres more to it, Yes it will make engine get more fuel at idle but the extra fuel is there to allow the engine to ramp up to high engine speeds. this is the drawback to a carb, only so many points of adjustments vs. fuel injection like a car.
