Glad you were able to get him eating! Some do tend to be more picky when it comes to what they eat and will exclusively only eat appropriately sized flies and not much else. My past female would eat the flies straight from the pupa, my two current males will not. I would say tho, they are opportunistic feeders and some will over eat, which is dangerous as their bloated abdomen has a risk of rupture. Especially if they fall or anything. There’s a really good graphic which you can probably Google that shows a scale of JS weight and what a healthy spider should look like, which might be helpful. :)

Yeah I think I have opposite ends of the spectrum with my spiders, Betty will eat anything and everything and bertie is picky lol.

They're not opportunistic eaters.. they like to hunt their prey much different than a tarantula or other arachnid

SO adorable! I'm hoping to get one in the Spring. Happy Bertie had a good feed! I know tarantulas wont eat when they're in pre moult so maybe it was a combo of shipping stress, a new environment and pre-moult? 🙏🏼 whatever he needs, you will be the best mama for him, we know! 🧡

I have one of your feeding ledges and my girl also comes out and hangs around near the ledge when she’s hungry! 😂 I thought maybe it was coincidence she tends to go and hang out there when it’s getting close to feeding times but maybe not! We (my girlfriend and I) just got 2 boy jumping spiders. No issue so far with mine eating but hers seems that it's gone into molting. So we'll see how he does afterwards. Love your channel. Females can change color with molts, sometimes subtle sometimes dramatic. I think males do a little but I don't see big changes. I would say if your girl seems still hungry but is plump, give them smaller prey. Some can kinda overeat. I generally give them a drop of water from an eyedropper before feeding.

My female jumping spider just came out of a molt two days ago and is skinny and fumbling around and im very concerned that something went wrong during her molt. They can overeat, if her abdomen is much bigger than her head, it's dangerous, it can cause abdomen separation, which I've seen and is devastating. Also if they fall while too full, it's like dropping a water balloon. Not saying this in a nasty way but please be careful

Mine hasn't eaten anything in weeks and he is super skinny. His abdomen is almost paper thin. He won't touch anything I put in and I can't get the fly castors to hatch (he usually eats those)
