THANK YOU for highlighting that genetics play a role in where weight is stored! I see SO many influencers flat out lying to their viewers, saying "It's all my routine" or "I do 'X' thing every day." Like, yes, targeting your legs and glutes during a gain/bulk phase is going to build the muscle there, but where your body stores fat during a gain/bulk and how your muscles are foundationally built/structured is completely hormone/genetics based! Thank you for addressing this.

I'm only a few minutes in and so impressed. I was nervous with the video title, but I LOVE that you began by saying that you can't spot gain and that it is in some part due to genetics. Bravo, can't wait to watch the rest :).

Finally some who says it. Even as a guy we always hear “genetics” yes genetics but that only time based. You can get to the same point as someone else it’ll just take time and you’ll have to train and care for yourself differently. Genetics only help when it come to reaching a certain point faster

I always ask this question. For girls like me who are inclined to not being naturally thin or who carry fat more so on the upper body it is so frustrating when people gain weight but they only gain it on the bottom half. I feel like most fitness influencers are built like this. Genetically prone to gain weight on their lower half first/mostly. 😭
@rarrrar67492 жыл бұрын
I tend to gain weight in my belly first, just imagine the struggle! Btw, if you are currently lifting, is it getting better? I mean, does that help with gaining weight in your lower body?
@marianacampos79592 жыл бұрын
@@rarrrar6749 i undereat most of the time because mentally im still scared of just gaining weight that will make me look fatter. I know to build muscle you have to eat ans eat tge right things, but i still have to get through that mental block of mine.
@Tanya-cm2oq Жыл бұрын
I’m the same. When I eat more I naturally gain more weight in my upper body. Since training my lower body, eating more PROTEIN and LESS SUGARY food/drinks, there’s a huge difference in body shape. Because the muscles below are growing but body fat is decreasing. Hope this helps.

Really great point about expectations. Once I got my foundation, I struggled with keeping my expectations next to nothing. I can't lie, I expected to perform at maximum even when in, for example, a calorie deficit or even ketosis. Looking back, all the expectations did was frustrate me even though, over the long term, I was getting leaner and stronger.

I like how you talked about genetics & expectations in the very beginning because most people who are inspired by influencers, don’t realize that their body genetics play a huge role in how they store fat. I think once people accept the truth, they can find ways to minimize as much fat gain as possible when they understand their body type. Influencers def need to start sharing more info on all body types so it feels more inclusive & relatable. As a fellow meso-endomorph myself, I’ve learned that if I just bump up my cardio (steady fasted) and stick with a 20% fat intake, slowly adding 100-200 calories every 2 weeks, has been helpful in gaining & not gaining as much body fat as possible in the process. This is why I say again, once you understand your own body type then you know how to work with it. What’s working for her, isn’t gonna work for you if you don’t have the same body type.

5:06 that's my biggest problem, I know that progress takes time, seeing a difference in your body takes time, but that's the worst for me, I'm killing it for a while, at home though, but I don't see anything change, I can just feel my muscles being a little stronger, and for example, I never felt my glutes being connected to my lower back if that makes sense, I feel it now, so it must be tiny progress, and I still struggle with motivation 😞 and being sore all the time doesn't help

Hey! I just wanna share with you the fact that you will definitely see results but give it more time and it will come unexpectedly because right now your body is adjusting to the routine and will deliver it's best results much later till then try to make it your habit and stick to it. I'm doing the same btw I store fat in my belly first and I haven't gained glutes yet but I will train my glutes harder and push myself and I hope so do you! All the best!

I will recommend you reading "Atomic Habits" by James clear ig i don't recall the author but it gives you no shit advices to stay consistent with your habits! Hope this helps! And thank you for making me feel I'm not alone in this either💖

How much weight did you add on your squats (other exercises)? Muscle can't grow if your weights don't increase significatele. E.g. you squated deep 50 kg last year for 10 reps, now you are squatting 150 kg for 10 reps - your glutes and legs are bigger now. But if you are squatting only 60 kilos after a year - there will be no changegs
@Jackie_-wk4fe2 жыл бұрын
It took me a year of practice until I finally mastered the art of mind to muscle connection with my glutes. Now I can’t turn them off lol. When you have weak glute muscles, you have to train them to kick on, instead of your quads. Not easy for us that aren’t naturally glute dominant, but possible. Keep at it.

I wish diet culture put more focus on quality foods over low cal options and high protein processed foods. I know health is subjective to the individual, but we need a different prospective on health. I appreciate you saying you prefer to get your protein from whole foods.
