that frugal feeling doesn't always leave you even when you're finally out of debt. after being in poverty for so long you just sort of build a habit of holding onto whatever you get, trying not to feel guilty for buying something nice for yourself with the disposable income. its like a form of PTSD that capitalism created for some people.

just wanted to say that you’re making me and probably many others really inspired by what you’ve gone through and how you’ve dealt with the struggle of not knowing what to do with life and to feel lost. They way you’re expressing yourself that the majority of people would keep to themselves bc they’re scared of sounding stupid really is comforting. I’ve been following you for months now and I just wanted to thank you. You have probably had that youtuber you always looked forward to watch and for me and for many others, you are the one we are looking forward to watch and listen to❤

This was honestly a really good episode and came at the right time for me. I’m basically in the same boat in the sense that my parents don’t have the financial capacity to just give me money to pay for college. I’ve had to work so hard just to get into University- UF in Florida and Flagler college also Rowan Uni in NJ(idk where I’m going yet). and if I’m being honest I don’t even know how I’m going to live a functioning lifestyle when I move because I have literally $0.20 to my name rn. 💀 It’s just nice to know that I’m not the only person who has no fucking idea what they’re doing 😭😭😭 really just realized that taking a FAT leap is a need. Anyways love this podcast DOWNNNN

I took out about $120,000 in student loans over 4 years for Chiropractic College. After 16 years of making monthly payments on my loans, I owed over $200,000. What kind of crap is that to be making payments for all that time and owe a hell of a lot more than you borrowed. Fortunately, I got a job working for City government, and qualified for Public Service Loan Forgiveness after 10+ years

Chiropractic college?
@Mark-in-Texas
@Mark-in-Texas 10 ай бұрын
Yes@@angellover02171 , and sadly I was talked into going to Chiropractic College. My plan was to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy. In Physical Therapy, you're part of the Western Medical System, with the backing/support of medical doctors, facilities in hospitals and medical centers. In Chiropractic, it's all entrepreneurial. You need to come up with a lot of money to startup your own business or try to find a chiropractor that will hire you, which is usually for really low pay and doing tasks they don't like doing. I haven't heard any statistics, but the percentage of chiropractic college graduates that actually make it in the business is probably very low. I would never recommend chiropractic college, due to the huge expense, lack of infrastructure and professional support. Chiropractic College was once a lot less expensive, according to instructors that I had there.

Private schools give you a lot of money but they raise the prices every year. One tip for future students you can try writing a hardship letter to your admissions office especially if you’ve already missed scholarship deadlines.

And you must understand that even if your life was difficult, your parents qualifying for a parent plus loan puts you at an advantage. The reality is a lot of poor people have poor parents with bad credit and they won't qualify to get that.

I remember you were the first Tiktok Japan video to pop up on my page and I was like GIRRRL love him! Need to follow and have been on this ride since then. I too am the same with being from a small town (Im from an island 3x5 miles) so I know how that is like to want to leave and experience life elsewhere and too grew up with poverty.. still living it but it will get better! That and my dream to live in Japan one day. Keep doing what you're doing. Your videos always bring happiness and I have seen you grow and glow up since then. I just remember times in college where I felt so jealous of other people and how easy their lives seemed while I worked hard to get out of the financial situation I've known my whole life. I’m so surprised how mature and healthy your mindset is now and when you grew up. I was in a very similar situation when I was your age (I can’t believe I turned into one of those old people) but instead of understanding that you can change your situation and better your life, I internalized it and punished myself for the most of my 20s.

Ryan, thank you so much for this episode!! I am 22 and I am experiencing the same thing you had. I am a Ukrainian and for my whole life, I've been convinced that I will build my future life in Kyiv. But, the war outbroke and I had to move to Spain. I mean, it's safe here and very fun, but I rarely get to experience the fun part of it cuz I am broke. I envy other international students in my uni, who party every day and do fun trips around Europe all year round because I have to work and study at the same time to sustain a minimum lifestyle. But I am sure it's gonna get better and I will get through the struggle eventually. Good luck to everyone going thru the same stuff, we'll all be rich and successful one day for sure!!!

Congrats man - wish I had your maturity of money when I was your age. My advise - (A) Keep a 1 year emergency fund. That way if the algorithms go crazy or something you have runway to figure out the next thing. (B) You were very smart to start that retirement fund early. Contribute as much as you can now and let compound interest work for you If the market crashes be sure to buy. Think you can contribute up to $6,500 per year. Make sure it is a Roth IRA. Also - you may want to set up your own company (if you have not done so already) to see if you can open up your own 401 K - Thank you can contribute $22,500 a year to it. Think there is a roth version of that in which you pay the tax now and then it grows tax free and you also pay no taxes when you pull it out. Also - keep investing in the channel - that is where you are making the money. That is awesome you are able to travel the world - you're living the dream!
