One of the 'frequently asked questions' is now I have everything set up in my #dawless setup, so in this video I tried to explain both the midi and audio configuration of my setup.

So interesting and inspiring to see that. I also feel quite ashamed looking at your setup as I have very similar gear but NO setup whatsoever ! No excuses now. I need to put the effort in and build a setup like this. Thank you for the push ! 👏👏👍🙏

I try to focus on having fun! It’s a hobby after all, not work 😂 Take it slow and do what you like and you’re already ‘there’. No need to have this big setup as a goal, unless you want to 😅

Beautiful sounds, and great video, thanks for sharing. I'm in the same boat, only have limited time for music so want everything operational as quickly as possible. If I may make a suggestion, you could shave some seconds of the power up time by having a single power distributor. So you could turn everything on or off with a single switch.

No DAW? Go you! I literally just use a cheap DAW as a tape machine. No plug ins, all outboard effects. Why? I'm a musician not an IT expert! Lovely to see someone else standing up for the old school!

This setup only uses the DAW as a tape machine and for some mixing / eq. I also use a full DAW sometimes, but this setup has given me more inspiration the last 3 years than the DAW has in 20 years 😎

@@josephmarkey9096 Yeah, I feel the main thing (for me) is quick rewards (results). I can get a jam going in minutes and start building upon that. This might not be what everybody likes, but I do believe that designing a system like a 'happy place' where you want to keep coming back is a good foundation. Weather that is a place where you get a big Eurorack system or something like my setup with little to no rewiring required, that is not relevant. As long as you can get rewarded quickly.

Awesome video! I wonder if your mixer has midi and or if that is required to get this setup running? I assume your mc707 is the main midi clock.. Do you wire the midi thru all the synths from mc707 midi out all back into the mc707 midi in? And is your mixer first in line within the midi chain or the last in line, or is the audio routing fully separate from the midi routing? Would love to see a midi wire drawing.. I also wonder if you want to record into a Daw, would you use the mc707 as audio interface or midi controller only - and would you only connect your mixer as audio interface?.. o.0

- Awesome video! THANKS! - I wonder if your mixer has midi and or if that is required to get this setup running? It has, but I don't use that. The midi comes from the 707. - I assume your mc707 is the main midi clock.. YES! The only 2 things that generate midi are the YC61 and the 707. - Do you wire the midi thru all the synths from mc707 midi out all back into the mc707 midi in? NO, only from the YC61 to the 707 and from there to all my other gear (including the YC61, which I set up to only respond to midi notes instead of also to its keybed) - And is your mixer first in line within the midi chain or the last in line, or is the audio routing fully separate from the midi routing? Fully separated. - Would love to see a midi wire drawing.. I made one for you, you can download it via the link in the description (onedrive) - I also wonder if you want to record into a Daw, would you use the mc707 as audio interface or midi controller only - and would you only connect your mixer as audio interface? Right now the 707 is not used as an interface anymore. I have used the MC707 as a multitrack audio device (8 stereo channels over USB) and it works very good in that way, but my setup got too big. So I needed more inputs. Using the 707 as the interface is the best experience, because all audio goes through the 707 in that scenario, so you can also use the faders. But I have too many synths now and need more than 4 inputs :) Hope this makes sense :)

Did I understand correctly that in order for you to be able to play the YC61 internal sounds you send the midi out to the in of the 707 but then midi is resent out from the 707 to the sub37 and midi thru back to the YC61 and then the audio goes to the XR18? 😅
@tricks-and-tips
@tricks-and-tips Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is how I set it up indeed. So I can control (play) my other synths from the YC keybed as well (without the YC playing its own sounds) The YC is both a midi controller and a sound generator in my setup 😃 And all the sound goes through the XR18 into my DAW

Very helpful post. Thank you for that! Is it normal that the delay of the MC707 no longer works in the knob assign if I use an external reverb device via assignable out? That would be pretty stupid, because I have the Nightsky and so I don't have a delay available. Or is there a way?
@tricks-and-tips
@tricks-and-tips 3 ай бұрын
I'm not 100% sure if I understand, so correct me if I'm wrong: - The assignable out NEVER gets any of the 3 Master FX (master reverb, master delay, master effects). This is on purpose, that way you can separate audio that needs to get master effects from audio that needs to stay dry. In my case this is exactly what I wanted, because I am adding both reverb and delay. If you want delay, there is one option, use the track effects. You can add delay there. - If you use the send - return FX loop in the 707 to connect your pedal, you have to assign it to either the delay or the reverb. (so it replaces one of these)

@@tricks-and-tips First of all, thank you for your answer! Well, I was just surprised that, for example, cutoff works via knob assign, but delay doesn't. Unfortunately, I don't know much about it. I still have a Boss DD6 lying around. Maybe I'll put it in front of the Nightsky so I can use delay. The tip about the track effects is great, though. I'll try it. Thank you very much!
@tricks-and-tips
@tricks-and-tips 3 ай бұрын
@@gorogne No problem. Cutoff is per track, the master FX is only on the master bus (not on the assignable out) :) Just like with a send FX that is on a mixer.

Yeah, I thought about that, but my ambition was more than I could chew. I wanted to make an animation, but that proved to be too much work and then I got tired of it and skipped the idea. But I'll keep it in mind for my next video. I might expand the setup a bit more, so there is a good reason to do a follow up :)
