I had no idea that Toucan added Korean to their list! I loved the idea of it so I've used it a couple of months ago for a bit to see if it would help me maintain my Italian, but I remember wishing for them to introduce Korean since it's the only language I'm actively studying. Can't wait to use it again, it's such an effortless way to pick up new words bit by bit.

this is amazing. i can’t even imagine doing a video in korean. i’m still a beginner. i know hangul and some vocab but not a lot. i’m struggling trying to find books. i have tuttles korean for beginners and talk to me in korean level 1 but was curious if you had any other recommendations for beginners? are the integrated korean books you reviewed good for overall learning or are they mainly good for students who are planning to study in korea?
@NataliaGarza
@NataliaGarza 3 жыл бұрын
I think they're good for all beginners but the dialogues and vocab in the first chapter are definitely centered around university life~ But honestly i think that's most textbooks~ If you're able to get your hands on an Ewha book, I think the level 1-1 books would be good for you! You'd need to get the study guide and the workbook for sure. The textbook is nice to have, but I don't think it's required since the study guide is what actually teaches you grammar~

@@kenna.-_ well I took a break from Korean to finish school, but when I used Ewha I really liked it. I think I studied a few pages every day, but then Natalia suggested studying the vocab first so I did that for a while and it was helpful. I will probably go back to using it but I also really enjoyed using the How To Study Korean website. I think I ended up using that more than Ewha for a time. I would start with the HTSK website, if you don’t want to spend money. The grammar and lessons are very clear and well developed. If you want to give a textbook a try I would recommend Ewha still, bc I liked it when I used it. I also had all three books and I found that I did use all three. It’s really up to you! Wow. Most of your words are pronounced really well. Signed--Korean American who lived in Korea for 7 years. Having gone to international school w/ a lot of multi-lingual people, it's fascinating to me how some people have an ear for languages. For example, my best friend's dad (who I went to HS with in Korea) is American and has lived in Korea for about 50 plus years now, but his accent is not nearly as good as yours. And your pronunciation is way better than a lot of fluent Korean youtubers.

Learning Korean through Korean songs is also a good way. However, it will work better if you learn Korean songs from the 80s and 90s rather than recent songs. Recent songs are mixed with English and are very very difficult. Korean songs from the 80s and 90s are easy to learn Korean. I am a Korean living in Seoul.

I’m not sure if anyone would relate to it but I have this constant love & hate relationship with Korean language and it’s quite frustrating at times. I’m not into Kpop or K-drama. The Korean culture does not inspire me, it’s sad that Koreans have westernised their culture so much. I struggle a lot to hold on to the motivation to go on with the language. I do not want to give up though. Which is why I keep learning other languages to keep me motivated; When I accomplish something in other languages I pour all my good vibes into the Korean language learning process. I hope to overcome this predicament soon. Fingers crossed 🤞

From useful apps on the 3rd tip, another polyglot (Robb) has just launched a beta of his website - journaly.com. You can upload your diary entries/articles/sentences there and native speakers will correct them for you in a very convenient way :) Questions can be also asked on hinative, but I think the best option in the end would be to find a language partner that can respond to any questions you may have or just correct your sentences :)

I'm 12 and I'm learning the language because I want to go and study there, but after 한굴 I don't know what to do next. What should I study? Where should I study? Where can I find those materials? So if someone who reads this knows the answers please reply, it'll be great help. Have a good day/night ahead.

How long did it take you to get to this fluency today? I really want to study, I got the vocab and writing down but now it's just the speaking and sentences. I've been taking at least an hour out of my day to learn but I don't know how far I would get. I also downloaded Naver to practice reading but I don't know if it'll help much.

I have a question. Of the Uni textbooks that you showed early on in the video, which one would you say is your favorite/ the best in your opinion? I have been studying on and off for the past 6 months or so and I have some TTMIK books that I really enjoy. So what would you say is the best option for me to go??? (Love your channel btw❤️)

I've been studying korean for a while but i've realized that my study method is not effective and end up not studying for a while. Im on college break rn and im supposed to be study, but i dont eventually do it. So this situation makes me anxious cause i feel like and im not progressing and i should take this free time as an opportunity to study more, however i dont find the movitation that i used to have. So what do you recommend? Also thank you for doing this video, hearing you speak korean makes me wanna study more to get into your level.

Your korean is really impressive! But one small thing I noticed: sometimes you tend to swallow certain vowels which causes the pronunciation to be a bit off sometimes, maybe speaking a bit slower and focusing on every syllable in a word would help :)

Hehe to be fair, filming in front of a camera and talking in a foreign language is soooo different than talking to someone>_< But i agree with what youre saying and know what u mean. Im sure natalia watches her video and sees her mistakes/problems when it comes to speaking in korean :) i record myself and while i cringe so much i know that if i keep doing this it will only help! So natalia...i have no idea if u will eevr read this but keep making videos in korean. You might cringe at how bad it sounds but if u keep doing it youll get better forsureeee. @NataliaGarza
@NataliaGarza 3 жыл бұрын
Yes and yes!! I remember switching my phone into Korean before study abroad and it really really helped me navigate life in Korea~ But I think it would be more stressful than helpful for beginners~ Now that I'm intermediate, I change it sometimes because I learn a lot of words by doing so, but I usually only last about a week before I want it in English because I'm trying to block/cancel something and can't afford to click the wrong button~
