Planning a visit or moving to Mexico? Check out the Mexico Travel Journal amzn.to/3nTOSJO The Mexico Travel Journal is a small Journal Notebook I created for people planning to spend time in Mexico. More than just a journal notebook, the Mexico Travel Journal contains important information on travelling in Mexico like Tourist Card Requirements and limitations, Entering Mexico by Land and Driving Tips, as well as important Safety Tips. The Journal section contains a daily planner and a daily notes page with enough space for travel of up to 45 days. The Mexico Travel Journal also a valuable spanish phrase section with over 250 commonly used phrases to help you in your journey. Since Mexico is a country that uses the Metric system, I've also included several Metric to Imperial conversion charts for easy reference.

Kudos to you for sticking with learning a new language. Utilizing a teacher for your specific needs was a great idea.

Thanks for the info. I believe most apps will teach universal Spanish since Mexican Spanish would be for a smaller market, where Drops has several Spanish versions, that is a nice tip!

I think so.

Thanks Jason. i’m at the end of module one on Rocket and have been pleased. I think the combination of flashcards, listening, and speaking has really helped me with conjugation and pronunciation, I wasnt aware it emphasized European Spanish. But I do recognize the need for personal lessons and your video has inspired me to find someone.

I didn’t realize it either until I was in Mexico and getting a few strange looks 😅 it’s ok, it was a good introduction for me. Just wish the KZbin channel that was recommending it were clear (I realize now that they were making money through their affiliate links - lesson learned).

Thanks for the insight on your process. I'm moving to Puerto Morelos, Mexico next year and have started learning Spanish. So far I have only used Duolingo which has helped me build some basic vocabulary. I hope to start with a native speaker in Mexico in the next month or so. I'm planning to take classes from La Karencita, her channel is how I originally found your channel after you did a collaboration with her on the Gringo Tax video. I like that she starts out with speaking both English and Spanish then transitions to a teacher that only speaks Spanish. I will check out the link for your teacher as well. Take care ☮❤😎

Ah, Puerto Morelos! It was on my list of possible new homes too. Say his to La Karencita for me 🙂

Thank you for this, Jason! I took classes at a centre in Toronto for about a year, but if you don’t use it, you lose it 🤣 I’ve really wanted to pick it up again so I think I may check out the link and set myself up with another round of lessons ❤️

On an everyday level, there are no differences at all between Spanish of any countries. Its Spanish everywhere. Just because there are some differences in vocabulary , sometimes grammar(most of it slang) doesnt make it a different language. There is no Latino Spanish or European Spanish. A person who studied English in UK wouldnt have any problems communicating with an American. Neither would a German who visits Austria, or a French Canadian who visits France
@TrailguidePictures2 жыл бұрын
Actually, I'd say the opposite. On an everyday level, speaking colloquially (the common language) is where you find all of the differences. Like not using "vosotros" in Mexico, for example. There are also differences like the pronunciation of "V" in words like veinte. Which is a subtle difference of course. In both Mexico and Spain I was corrected by locals for using different pronunciations as well as different phrases or terms. As I mentioned at the beginning of the video, for a beginner it doesn't really matter. For the most part I'm personally having small conversations that are focused on "me" and "you" and don't involve using other pronouns. I agree, learning any spanish will help in any of the two countries but I think I could have saved a tiny bit of frustration if I started learning Mexican spanish before going to Mexico, and likewise it was good to know that a tortilla in Spain is very different from a tortilla in Mexico (as an example).

@@TrailguidePictures I think the problem with learning Spanish is that most quality learning materials (like coursebooks) are regulated by Real Academia Espanola, which is of course in Madrid, so all Spanish learning materials will teach Peninsular Spanish. Its impossible to learn Mexican Spanish, Colombian Spanish or any Latin American Spanish because all coursebooks are focusing on Peninsular Spanish. You would have no issues getting a coursebook with only European Spanish speakers, but its impossible to get books with exclusively Mexican or Colombian speakers. And thats a shame, because Mexico is the largest Spanish speaking country with 130 million speakers. Recently, they have introduced books which use speakers from every Spanish speaking country, pointing out that it help students getting used to the different dialects. I think its detrimental, because the student cannot stick to one dialect .

I appreciate what you are doing and the struggle. This coming from learning both English and Spanish from infancy. I have difficulty with the diversity in the Spanish language as I learned through the Cuban lingo. So to understand the language from other Latin countries, is not easy. Hang in there and be tenacious. For me if I don’t use it, I lose it. My first language is English, American Miami style and a southern draw to boot. That’s how it was growing up. Thanks for your video and explanation 👍🏻😎

It's definitely true, if I don't use it I lose it. Difficult right now being out of Spanish countries for a few months but trying to maintain it the best I can.

I recommend Duolingo and as well a spanish speaking girlfriend ;-)

I've heard of Duolingo but don't have experience with it. The spanish speaking girlfriend could be a good idea, but might be more expensive than a spanish teacher 😉

There are more Spanish speaking countries where you can travel. The most developed countries in Latin America are in the South (Argentina, Uruguay and Chile). They are ranked between 45th and 50th in the Human Development Index; whereas Mexico is in the 87th place. Mexico has a severe problem with drug cartels. You'd be much safer in the Southern Cone, and you' won't be seen as a foreigner. Argentina, for example, received more European immigrants than any country in the world, except the USA. In Mexico, by contrast, you'll always be a gringo.

What’s the fascination with you people and European ancestry? Is it a South American thing? Pathetic. This is a video about Mexico not South America.
