I can see from your technique that you started ice skating first and then learned to hockey stop in inlines (I know you also said that). I had the opposite approach since I started ice skating after learning inlines. It was crazy how much grip I got on the ice and took me awhile to learn that I needed to slide on top of the blades instead of far on the edge! Going from one to the other can be tricky!

Might not help those on rough surfaces with hard wheels, but when I'm playing some outdoor pickup on a decent surface or inline leagues I have two sticky indoor wheels on the front and maybe the next hardness up (still indoor wheels) on my back two. I picked up the tip years ago and I've never gone back, it really helps your heels break out a little easier on a hard stop without sacrificing grip.

@@deemrick4385 Well they suck until that one time it saves your life like mine did you learn to appreciate it a little more. I am a pretty good skater. Won my age group in a Marathon in Tahiti once! Was able to do waltz jumps on my inline speed skates. Not something your were supposed to be able to do. Well i got caught by surprise in Santa Monica going down a hill at good speed made a 180 degree turn into a side street and ran into loose gravel while in the the turn and I was at pretty much full speed. Went into an air born spin when my skates chattered on the gravel then caught a patch of clean pavement and it didn't matter how good a skater I was! I was involuntarily air born and not in control! Ended up breaking my wrist! My watch was about 50 feet away and I had hit the back of my head hard on the road! The helmet was crushed! My head was fine! Doesn't matter how good you are! If you keep skating sooner or later shit will happen!

Coming from ice to rollerblades, i used try to lean far enough that the wheel frame was touching and i’d stop on that. The particular frames on the skates i had were a composite material, not a metal alloy. They felt similar to stopping on dull ice skate blades. It made me wonder why someone hasn’t designed “slide plates” that attach to the side of the wheel frame. Or maybe some tensioned rollers. Something that can be replaced after heavy use. I think something like that would bring the feel of inline skating closer to ice skating.
@kodic9215

I remember switching from roller hockey to ice and stopping was my biggest obstacle. First, I'd send myself flying head over heels trying to do a roller hockey stop on ice. Then when I finally learned it, I struggled with muscle memory whenever I would be playing roller hockey or ice hockey, so I'd either send myself flying the same way as before, or have my roller blades completely slide out from under me while trying to ice hockey stop. After a while I was able to do the proper stop every time on both surfaces without thinking about it. Later on I naturally figured out the two footed roller hockey stop.

The hockey stop and the parallel stop are very different because in the hockey stop the outer leg pushes the ground hard and the inner leg slides on the surface till the end and helps to decide the stop and then balance When in the parallel stop the inner leg and the outer leg slide until the end and then the outer leg determines the stop and balance

You know what's cool about Canada and other countries and the north United States is sometimes the ice rinks or the outdoor ponds are empty and there is nobody so you can go out and have fun and practice without having to worry about people. Well here down in Texas when there is somewhere to skate people come out in droves and there aren't that many so there is always people. I wish I was Finnish, or better yet Canadian. Texas sucks, unless you own a ranch or something

@@thejuiceman1190 Thanks for the reply. I also tried 82A wheels and it was hard to get any sliding to work, I fell down a few times trying to stop, that's for sure. I got some KSS brand 85As online, which seem to work better after breaking them in a bit. At first they didn't want to slide much. I also ordered some Revision ASF2 Asphalt Pro 2 Wheels from Coast to Coast hockey, but I haven't had a chance to try them out yet.

I 've fallen on my hip bailing out of turns on an icy slope skiing and swore I never wanted to ski again I was so full of rage with the pain. I fell on my hip trying to turn sharply on my weak side on in-line skates and was amazed how badly I bruised myself even though I was wearing padded shorts. Now I wear my old hockey girdle over those shorts. Can't stop a fool skating!
@StillAliveAndKicking_
@StillAliveAndKicking_ 3 жыл бұрын
@@samuelgarfinkel2479 Very wise. I don't have old hockey shorts, and don't want to spend ~£100 on some with enough padding. The padded shorts I ordered had hip protection in the wrong places. Damn. Fortunately I can use them anyway as they protect the coccyx. Maybe I'll tape some foam to my hips, and look like a total dork.

@@StillAliveAndKicking_ The appearance of dorkdom flows naturally from the effort to acquire difficult skills. @nerglersstuff8890
@nerglersstuff8890 6 жыл бұрын
Unless you've bought them already; Any k2 skates will work perfectly as a entry level skate. They held up well for about 4 years for me until a spacer gave out. Got a really good run out of them. Some people might go against that idea as fitness skates have a loser cuff. For me that wasn't really an issue. As I was new it just meant I learned to balance on skates without relying solely on a tight cuff. Then we got the entry level SEBA and Powerslide freeskate models. I got myself a pair of Powerslide Imperials, and I really like them. Fairly light, simple design and just a well rounded boot over all. As a rule of thumb I try to put myself over 160$ for skates.
