Hey Gyasi, once again great video and quite inspiring. Also, I have a question in mind. Currently I am a junior in high school and as of this year I'm taking a programming class (essentially a prerequisite so I can take AP Comp Sci next year as a senior). This summer I want to enhance my ability and actually really want to create something, but not sure what. Part of it is so I can learn and part of it is to show colleges on my applications next year that I truly want to go into the field and I took initiative to grow. Right now I have a little bit of java knowledge from my class, but that is about it. Do you have any input? Thank you!

I agree on the point you made about syntax. Right now i am in a Intermediate C++ class (Intro to CS 2) at my school and an assembly language course. Although assembly is super cryptic, the logic, and loops, etc. all remain constant, so just adjusting your writing style is all thats needed. I will say being in Intro to CS 1 (Python) last semester is the perfect language to learn with for its simplicity, and has done me very well for the complexity of C++. I am enrolled for Data Structures this fall (based in C++/Java) and i can say that as scary as that class is, preparing is key. You make all the right points yet again Gyasi! Always speaking BIG FACTS ! My question to you is: I am doing my CS degree, and that obviously is just a big mashup of learning to code, problem, solve, learn about computers etc. but my interest is in UX/UI/Front End Engineering. If i want to get into this field, but i only get to have one elective in web development, would you suggest maybe hopping into a Udemy front end course, or maybe tutorials her on youtube? I want to get a front end internship, but I do not have a lick of HTML/CSS/Javascript etc. for front end LOL. Anyhow, another great piece brotha, keep them coming!
@TravisGarnett5 жыл бұрын
Yes. And as Gyasi mentioned, you can add those "side projects" to your resume (which should include your "coursework projects"). With the addition of an internship to your resume, you'll be EVEN MORE valuable to [potential] employers! Good luck!

I always hear youtubers say to work on personal projects so you can learn and add to your resume. However, what personal projects especially as a beginner then moving to intermediate? Does the project have to be original? Or is it okay to do a project that’s been done, look up a tutorial and copy it then boom add to your resume ? I see a lot of KZbin tutorials on doing different projects however just copying (especially when there’s no explanation for the purpose of each code) what they did makes me feel as if I am not learning anything. Or is that the way to start?

Java is a good language to start programming with, especially depending on the type of application(s) you'd like to create...powerful with its "object-orient"-ness. I hear Python is an even easier language to begin one's coding journey, with its "english-like" syntax. You can find tutorials, on either language, on KZbin. Hope that helps. Good luck!
