As a music student, the only advice I would give you is steal. No, seriously, take things that you like from other composers and mix them all together, theory is useful, but that taste and intuition is what's going to give you success and satisfaction. As 8bit music theory said: "The difference between plagiarism and being original, is that you steal 6 people instead of one" Btw, to be your first composition is really good!! Keep going!!
@C-ip2sq Жыл бұрын
While it is important to respect the originality and work of other musicians, learning from them and incorporating elements of their style into your own can help you develop and refine your own musical style. Additionally, having a good understanding of music theory can help you become a better composer as it provides a foundation for creative expression and facilitates understanding of how different elements of music work together. Doing both can help you become an even better musician and find greater satisfaction and success in your creative pursuits.

As i delve deeper and deeper in a self-educated way to learn music and actually compose instead of just rearranging, i often turn to melodies from my past. Oftentimes there are no scores to find so i decided to get familiar with a midi controller. When i understand a maybe only 10 second long melody it just fills me with satisfaction. I even started to modify them, workaround with them, change the stile it is played in and for... It's a blast. :)

If you were to give a newbie a piece of advice about music composition, what would you say?
@maximewikenfors6305 Жыл бұрын
@@zablade I know you didn't didn't ask me but as someone who is currently studying art music and composition I hopefully know enough to give some advice! My best tips for starting out and getting the ball rolling is to use your ears (sounds redundant but I promise theres something to it). Even if you have no schooling in music theory, your brain is -through a lifetime of listening to and encountering music- very acustomed to many of the conventions of western music. If you were to sit down at a piano (or whichever instrument you prefer) and simply try playing notes until you find a sequence you like then you already have a brilliant start for a composition. Even though the choices you make might not be consciously made, you'll find as you learn more about the workings of music that they generally fit quite nicely into the frameworks of music theory. Learning about things such as harmony and progressions is of course very important as it widens your arsenal and will allow you to make more aware choices in your writing, but it's important to have fun with the process as you're learning rather than tunnel-visioning on the idea of mastery. Really try and write something (it can be short and simple, in fact I'd probably reccomend that initially) and just focus on making a thing which you enjoy. Parallel to that, watching beginner friendly theory videos is going to help you out a ton so I strongly reccomend doing that as well! If you're curious about good starting points or want some more specific pointers then I'd be more than happy to offer what I can! And cliché as it might sound, make sure you have fun with it!

i’m currently learning how to compose music for some video games i’m making with my friends, and i love smashing all of my favorite and niche musical influences together to make shit. my favorite thing is taking some existing songs whose vibe i’m trying to match, and write my song in the same key as one of them, but i challenge myself to put no more than three similar/same chord progressions, rhythms, etc. i’m already a singer with decent relative pitch, but i’m steadily teaching myself proper music theory. ngl i don’t really NEED to learn it, but it’s nice to have actual terms to explain why something does/doesn’t “work” instead of just going “uhhh because i want it to be like that?”

Music Production is so easy to approach, I myself, who doesn't know any music theory still can make stuff (ok, I have to come clean, I approached sound designing, so I barely touched the music theory stuff lolz) I was heavily interested in game developing, since I know for sure that with my knowledge of music composing, it would be absolutely amazing, but the overall coding things seems pretty intimidating, it bugs my mind pretty often when I attempt to do it. As a musician i can tell literally we all steal chords and its not stealing actuslly because there is already a system with progressions that we can maybe modify a little if you want to? But its still the same. Its like using formulas i guess nut chaging the letter X to an "A" for example. Everything it's literally invented. You just have to out some imagination to create something new and original from it! Or not. Thats cool too! To be honest clichés can be a great challenge. And by that i mean, the most used poor chords. Its about making them yours and unique or just something typical but catchy! Everything is great. That's the gift in music. Almost everything is already invented thanks to Bach-san. To me he was more like a scientific in music than a composser tbh. I love your video btw! Even if i find it now, a little late haha
