I'm someone who has been making music for quite a while and I can say that yes, the piano lessons definintely have helped, the random fumbling around would have been awful if you didn't know what you were doing. There's a big difference between feeling you're just pressing random notes and actually pressing random notes. Great job!

@Just Another Galaxy tried both and I prefer fl, even in terms of workflow. It's just 100% up to personal preference, you can make amazing music with either one of them. It's much more about the artist. In terms of plugins the fl EFFECT plugins are great, but i don't think the generator plugins of any DAW are really enough to make professional music. Don't worry tho, there's a lot of free stuff on the internet, i especially recommend Spitfire LABS. Ok why did i even type all that, you were literally just asking which daw is better 😅

As someone who makes a living writing music for films, TV and videogames, I can say that your process is honestly not too different from that of a professional! I'm seriously impressed by how fast you picked up on the chops, and I can see that you have a really good understanding (or maybe just innate sense) of how music works both linearly (progression) and vertically (instrumentation and harmony). I've been following the channel for some time and never would have expected you to actually do the music as well!

Just so you know, if this is your first game ever, and you’ve only been working in it for 2 years, your doing great. Seeing the process of you learning how to code the different physics for things, the attack animations, making the music, and coming up with ideas for the boss gimmicks and appearances, it made me realize how hard it actually is to make a game. And you should be proud.

In the 'Making An Action Song' chapter of the video, when you are starting out with the slap base, you start with like half notes, then quarter notes, and then end up on eighth notes... I think it would be a good idea to try experimenting with a similar melody, using the quarter notes from before, that then quickens to the eighth notes when the boxing match starts heating up. You can transition between these melodies based on the amount of punches being thrown or health of the characters or some similar idea. It might be worth a shot!

15:00 I love the victory song. But I don't feel like it's worthy of being the final victory. I think it has the same level of celebration that you get after winning a Pokémon match. Generally I feel it makes a good after-matchup song. I think a good set up for this piece can go like this: 1. Match Completed 2. Short Fanfare or "loss-fare" (if you lose) & character pose/highlight 3. "Victory" song + Results menu/page/popup (if there is one)

I recommend not to add too much element to your song. It's easy to get lost adding stuff and make it too messy. It happens to me all the time. Also, is really good to have a main idea as the theme of the game and have something from that theme in every song. It give the soundtrack more coherence. Then you can play with how you change the theme and with witch sounds you choose to fit the vibe of a particular battle or ambient.

A little thing, I always like it when a game uses one main Motiv also called a Leitmotiv, where the composer uses a base template and plays a new instrument and melody over it. Also remember a lot of games use the main theme to represent the player so a triumphent version for winning a league could fit that plays after the winning melody.

I'm digging the melodies you're putting together a lot! I think looking back to the N64 era for inspiration is a really good creative choice here, and you've done some amazing work so far for sure! I gotta admit though, I find some of these instrumentals and sound fonts.... _interesting._ I love me some Marimbas and Pan Flutes _in general,_ since they just hit that part of my brain that instantly brings up tunes from stuff like Banjo-Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing. Some of your more chill songs remind me of other great music from mid or late '90s games like Croc and LittleBigAdventure. Everything you showed us sounds really great on their own! I'm just not sure instruments like marimbas and flutes work super well for action songs in your game (unless you've got a tropical/island/jungle-themed boxing ring level. I can't remember if you're doing one of those or were just messing around with _maybe_ doing one in a previous video). Luckily, since this is all digital, you can just play around with swapping out instruments and get something else without changing the actual melodies. You pointed out some games like Bomberman 64 and Super Mario 64 in your video, but did you look at any of the N64's fighting games? It's not known for its fighters, sure, but you could probably still pull some inspiration from titles like Custom Robo or SD Hiryu no Ken Densetsu. Custom Robo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH_KZKeBfZypopY SD Hiryuu no Ken Densetsu: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIXVgWiZbdakfK8 See what I mean about the sound fonts? Not so heavy on the tropical instrument. I think the kinds of instruments in the Custom Robo music would fit your Action Song really nicely, too - it's still boppy and bouncy and fits the tempo well. At any rate, keep up the great work! This really is such a fascinating, informative and entertaining series to follow! We're all pulling for you and Punch-A-Bunch!

Would be great to see a dev log breaking down how you're approaching the game launch. Marketing/promos, pricing the final product, how you decided to set up your steam page, review keys, etc. There is a lot of the process that devs don't show, but since you've been so thorough with your dev logs - this is one area I would love to hear/see more about :) You're almost here Ponty!!!

As professional guy that jams out to music, you lit a flame in me, your music really helps me improve on my professional skills by jamming out to your songs. But really my favorite song is the one that you said you were going to put in the later fights, and more description is that it is a little bit more 8 bit. Great job and you are very motivational!

I may not be a music creator but I have been playing in band since I was in 5th grade, and I will say hearing your wip with the music was awesome (aside from the mess of your first attempt at the victory music, but we all have to learn). The victory fanfare also gets a vote for me, I like how it feels.

The victory song was fantastic, love it. Definitely your best one yet of the game so far. Kind of of poetic how it's a victory in your music making process, quite triumphant. Anyways, if I were you, beyond just the music, but also the games, I'd be super proud, you've really done a great job. I remember seeing when your first Devlogs came out, and am comparing to now. I may not have been able to follow along the whole way due to finding myself busy unfortunately, but wow, I am so impressed to what I've come back to, you've definitely made the most of this, and you most certainly have produced something well worth the time you put into it. Be proud

I love your melodies and you have a great way of expressing certain feelings in your music that definitely gives off retro video game vibes. I think your "victory song" would actually work better as the main theme or lobby music. You're doing great, I have been producing for a few years now and you have definitely been learning quick, Great Job!

You've made me want to buy Fl Studio even more now, DAMN YOU!! Awesome video, I've been putting more of a focus into my own tunes and seeing your soundtrack journey was fantastic! Also you should also try adaptive music sometime, even though it's pretty fuckin hard to make it’s really fun to mess with lol. Adaptive music could make fights and the tutorial section way more interesting. Like as you learn more in the tutorial the song gets more exciting, not exactly needed but really fun.
