In this tutorial we build on our knowledge from the previous video. Here I suggest 2 ways we can think about rotation through aid of the ellipse.

@@jaysadler2476 Doesn't hurt to try, It might help you tap into your natural perspective intuition and see space on the paper

Hi, thank you for this helpful video. I got the handout it is helpful, but how do you deal with proportion ? Whenever I try to rotate the box I feel I loose a little bit of the size. How can you stay consistent with proportions when rotating those forms . Thank you
@zefdraws
@zefdraws 3 күн бұрын
@@nadaart386 If you are able to notice the fact that you change the size when rotating then that means you already have good intuitions. This is good because you can self critique. There is no formula for keeping size exactly the same every time you rotate. What you need is repetition so that your hand matches your intuition. Repeatedly practice rotating volumes and every time you alter the size do it again until you get it right.

What pen do you use? Does it run out of ink quickly? I’m left handed (idk if that matters) and have a steep angle when I hold my pen
@zefdraws
@zefdraws 2 сағат бұрын
@@fordrivingandothers it's a staedtler fine liner 0.2. It doesn't run out quick but it gets blunt and becomes flat quite quickly. But that could just be down to how hard I press down so I dunno. I go through one of these pens every two weeks or so. The angle you hold your pen has an effect on the way the line looks but I don't think it makes the pen run out quickly.

But how do you really learn it? What should I actually do to learn these, that is kinda what I am struggling with right now, I really want to learn this skill, but I am not sure how to start
@zefdraws
@zefdraws Ай бұрын
@@derainmusique8751 Hey thanks for your comment. When you say "how do you really learn it" are you referring to rotating boxes? If so I'd say that you can use a circle to help as a guide like I've shown in the video. That being said, this will not be enough to really give you an intuitive understanding. You must find cubes in real life and draw them in different angles to gain that intuition. Then you want to attempt to draw them again from imagination correcting your mistakes using the real life objects again. It takes a while and it is going to be a struggle because visualising rotating objects is hard so give yourself time to make lots of mistakes.

imagination is nothing more than stored references.
@zefdraws
@zefdraws 2 күн бұрын
@@kool4209 It depends what you mean by references. If by references you mean images then that would be a bad way to go about it and you will always struggle to expand your visual library. If by storing references you mean storing 3d forms and information on how to represent them then that would be what takes you far. Drawing from imagination should be like sculpting not copying images you have in your head.

@ anything you’ve seen with your eyes is an reference. Unicorns aren’t real. Horses and narwhals create the illusion of a unicorn. Kim Jung Gi didn’t draw from imagination. He drew from life, everything he drew was something he saw once. Then thought hey let’s apply this idea. Drawing a head from imagination is redundant when you look or think about your own head when imagining it. Everything is reference.
