Financial literacy isn't a skill -- it's a lifestyle. Take it from Curtis "Wall Street" Carroll. As an incarcerated individual, Caroll knows the power of a dollar. While in prison, he taught himself how to read and trade stocks, and now he shares a simple, powerful message: we all need to be more savvy with our money.
The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Watching this young man for some reason gives me hope. I'm a 50yr white woman who at one time had everything I could've ever wanted. Now I NEVER see my adult kids nor my grandbabies. I live on a puny Disability check & I live in some crummy apartments, also with no vehicle. My family down here WILL NOT help me or co-sign for me to get a loan while they're raking in the dough. However, this young man learned to read, spell, & taught himself about money. God bless you young man for giving others hope.

Purchasing a stock may seem straightforward, but selecting the correct stock without a proven strategy can be exceedingly challenging. I've been working on expanding my $210K portfolio for a while, and my primary obstacle is the lack of clear entry and exit strategies. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

As someone who's recieved a decent education and who is constantly expanding his knowledge, I seriously wish I was as well spoken as this man. He speaks like someone with a double major bachelor's degree in finance and sociology. The speech was so articulate and concise in its delivery that it felt like every single word was necessary. He naturally intergrated some higher level words in such a casual way it sounded like he's always talked like this. Seriously, he's not just a testament to financial literacy, he's a testimony to self-education. Knowledge has truly elevated this man to new heights.

Yes but it won't. There has to be feeder and takers. This what we have isn't perfect but it is the best from all that we had. If this system is to survive we need more and more at the bottom as literate slaves. If those slaves get up the master must come down but only a few can be at the top. This is more then a system, it is an ecology. If the slaves gets smarter the machines replaces them. Don't even bother, this isn't about us. It never was. We're all just little stories waiting to be erased for the bigger story. If someone finds a solution that only means the person wants your money. Your on your own. Good luck.

These sort of "inspirational" fables of a subject rising "from the rags to riches" are always as cringeworthy, and awkwardly manufactured. Here we have one person going from one theft to another. Like trading stocks is some sort of pinnacle of human ethical potential. Surely there are better ways to attain wealth (not even going into the question whether blind attainment of financial wealth would be a meaningful singular goal in life) than being a broker, trading stocks. Classic, and always as grossly unintellectual and underestimating, tried and tested TED-piece. Bravo, the meek folk down in the trenches are now thoroughly satiated.

You NEVER see wealthy criminals donate half of their wealth towards any of their victims, Ethically it should be that way but it isn't. This man has had his freedom taken away for most of his life and even still he's managed to drastically change for the better, He is a walking testimony of reduced recidivism and all you're worried about is taking his money away? Okay fine, By your logic lets take half of his earnings - then what? It isn't like he can't rebuild after-all he is fairly knowledgeable on the stock market. Whats the money going to do to the family of the victim? Here's $100k from the person who killed your family member. Have you even bothered to checkout what he's doing? He actually has a foundation dedicated towards helping ex-convicts and low income individuals, teaching them how to trade etc. What kills me is that you seem like the same type of person who is okay with OJ Simpson being freed but frowns upon someone who is contributing positively towards the community and trying to right their wrongdoings.

Quite magnificent and inspiring words. I recently have been using a Forex strategy it's called the *Blended Model Strategy* it was imparted to me by DMITRY VLADISLAV and with it, I make 1650 EUR daily. This strategy has been reliable and effective to me, so I figured this might interest you too and other traders. you can search about on the internet to get informed.

7:16 "Our access to justice" Probably the strongest observation of this entire video. In America you have access to the justice your money can finance. Two people could commit the same crime, but if one is wealthy and he other is not, they won't be receiving the same justice.

I love this video, very eye-catchy and educative. Curtis "Wall Street" Carroll experience was very heart touching but i just feel that he omitted a vital step which is you can't learn to trade without being mentored by an Expert, not everyone have the ability to learn on there own. I'm a slow learner for people like me we need a professional to teach us how to trade.

I dont think he's a diamond in the rough, there are so many more intelligent young men out here. They just need to be equipped with opportunities, resources and positive role models before they get involved with crime. His TED talk was really inspiring and I am sure it will help some other young men going down the wrong path want to choose success over crime. May God bless this world and take back his children from the streets.

True, our youngsters could learn a thing or two. Most importantly, they should stay in school, get some much needed education. Education is one thing no individual can take away from you. Education will give them knowledge (and an opportunity for a decent 9-5 job) and they will learn to make smart decisions in life. It is our duty as parents to enforce these positive thoughts and encourage them all the way.
