Mano! Dein Deutsch ist klasse! Ich hab viele Engländer und andere Englisch-Muttersprechler beim Deutschsprechen gehört, aber meistens gibt es entweder einen sehr, sehr starken Akzent, oder sie geben sich gar keine Mühe. Und im Prinzip auch, scheint es mir, dass sehr wenige Leute Weltweit sich die Mühe geben, Fremdsprachen ohne Akzent soviel wie möglich auszuüben. Respekt!

Ich studiere Kommunikationswissenschaften mit dem Schwerpunkt Sprachlehrforschung und Fremdsprachenlinguistik. Ich versuche in meinem Studium herauszufinden, wie man Sprachen am besten lernen kann. Deine Methode ist nach meiner Meinung eine der erfolgreichsten: Vokabeln und Ausdrücke muss man "lernen", die Grammatik sollte man aber "erwerben" indem man Texte und Film-/Tonmaterial liest und hört. So bekommt man ein gutes Gefühl für die Sprache. Gute Arbeit, dein Deutsch ist sehr natürlich!

Wow, dein Deutsch ist echt gut! Man merkt, dass du die Sprache im Land gelernt hast. Du sprichst total frei und benutzt teilweise typisch umgangssprachliche Formulierungen (Partikel etc) :) Ich gehe nächsten Monat für ein halbes Jahr nach Holland und hoffe, ich kann die Sprache dort auch so schnell lernen! Dein Deutsch klingt sehr gut. Ich kenne nur wenige, die Deutsch so gut lernen konnten wie du, denn viele verlieren schnell mal die Motivation, weil man ab einem gewissen Level merkt, wie kompliziert die Sprache ist. Man hört zwar, dass Deutsch nicht deine Muttersprache ist, aber das macht ja nichts. Ich bin Schweizer und jeder Deutsche bemerkt es sofort, wenn ein Eidgenosse mit ihm spricht. Aber das heisst nicht, dass wir schlechtes Deutsch sprechen xD Wir verstehen sie und sie verstehen uns .. ausser wir fangen mit Schweizerdeutsch an xD

plus some people are very gifted at acquiring new languages, our brains work differently as young children and learn language at a much higher rate than an adult can, however some people are lucky enough to retain this "wiring" in their brain and can learn multiple languages fairly quickly

Wow! I'm impressed ... I'm a Cold War Veteran and I was stationed in Germany for 5 years. I left in 1988, before the glorious reunification of the country to one nation. I picked it up pretty well where I could understand it as well as I understand the English Language ... over the years I lost the ability to understand it. one of the easiest things on the spanish language is that the pronunciation is very very easy compared to other languages because the phonetic sounds are very fair and clean, what you read is very easy to pronunciate because a script has just one sound, unlike slavic or germanic languages, what make it difficult for us. On the other hand, our language has a great richness on expresions, verbs variations, vocabulary, etc.. Anyway bravo!! i dont speak german but it sounds very fluent

Amusingly, soldiers coming home after World War 2 had the same problem. My father's told me of people he knew when he was younger that came back from the war where they had learned to speak German only to rapidly lose the ability when they got home. I assume from lack of use.

With great respect, of course you learnt German if you stayed in Germany for a month studying eight hours a day and practising what you have learnt during the evenings. When I announced that I was learning German, everyone said ‘the best way to learn German is to live there’. However in the real world, I have a job here in the UK and I am not wishing to move or look for another job. Despite this, I am determined to learn. Best Regards.

I'm so glad, and happy with myself. I had already watched to this video, and listened to its audio, and I assure y'all which, I couldn't have reached proficient German language listening, and comprehension skills as much as I already do. I've never studied the German language grammar at all, and it seems to me that I've achieved the point of having pick up on it naturally, and automatically. I always create some sentences, and phrases in German as I think them up so that I speak them out lout. I had started off to read some German articles out, and it seems to me which, I've got make some proficient German language learning speaking, and writing skills up.

No worries, the so called "flap" or "trill" also exists in the Bavarian accent. Besides that there is no difference in meaning if you pronounce the r differently. ;) It is also quite difficult for Germans to roll the "r" which for instance can cause some problems in Spanish ("pero" vs. "perro").

Wie lernst du Vokabel? Mit einem Flashcardprogramm? Wie entscheidest du welche wörter zu lernen? was ist deine System für die Wiederholung der Wörter, die du gelernt hast? Entsculdigung für meine Deutsch, offensichtlich es ist nicht meine muttersprache; Ich komme aus Ungarn (vielleicht die einzige europäischer Land, dessen Sprache du nicht kennst :P (meine Grund dafür ist, dass du hast es nicht in deinem 16-languages hyperglot post gesprochen) Ja und du bist mein Held. :)

@poleag you use articles in front of names in German. Note how the sentence is a similar form to saying "I am THE teacher" . Although you could also say something like "Ich heisse Richard" which translates as "I am called Richard", as you wouldn't say "I am called the Richard". Or "Meine Name ist Richard" "My name is Richard". BTW. I am starting work in an hour at my first German job. Ich spreche nur ein bissen Deutsch, ich bin sehr nervös..

May I ask how many languages you knew before beginning your German studies? And more specifically, if it's even sensible to ask with the number you have on your shoulders, which languages those were? 240 hours in a month is quite the number to reach a high level in a language, however I do not doubt you one bit. Once I graduate from college I want to challenge myself to learn a European language as fast as I can. Korean and Japanese fell into my lap before I became interested in languages.

Can you do a vid about what you recommend, generally, for learning languages.... i like that 8 hrs a day for the first month- because it's almost like youre looking at it like a job. kind of like a writer, ppl wonder how writers are able to complete long series of books- but 8 hrs a day of writing will get done more than ppl realize. anyway, a general video or suggestion on how to learn french auto-didactically would be great. thnk you

I find it hard to learn German, sadly. Not because it's hard to learn the language; surely not. I've got the MS keyboard shortcuts for ö & ü, ß, etc. memorised. (Alt+148, Alt+129, 225, 132, etc), but I've not a lot of support. Online I can see many people using it, but living in the southern states I can't find anyone to communicate verbally with. In fact, the only tangible help I've received is a 70 year old book on the subject.

Wenn ich nicht wüsste, dass du kein Deutscher bist, würde ich es nur an deinem Satzbau erkennen, der sich manchmal eher an dem Englischen als am Deutschen orientiert. Etwas zum Thema Rhetorik, das dir eventuell helfen könnte: Versuche, das Wort "ähm" aus deinem Vokabular zu verbannen. Wenn dir ein Wort oder eine Formulierung nicht einfällt, sage einfach nichts, sondern überlege, bis du es weißt. Es gibt auch ein Wort dafür: Kunstpause.

Wow, ich bin beeindruckt. Allein die Tatsache, dass Du die "typisch deutschen" Laute wir ch, ü, st und co (no, the co was no German sound ;) ) so perfekt hin bekommst. Das klingt schon gut nach Muttersprachniveau. Ich wünschte mein französisch wäre nur halb so gut - nein viertel so gut, ach sagen wir achtel - wie Dein deutsch. ;)

Richard, thank you for all your videos. I watch them as additional motivation while learning the language. At the moment, I'm trying to learn German. My question to you: how many words did you learn during the first month? How did you choose which vocabulary is "more" important for you at that time?

I too would be interested in hearing this. Especially because you said that after one month you could understand TV and hold a conversation. A learned about 1.000 words so far but still struggling to understand people or TV.

+Olya Danylo you do not need to limit yourself to the words you want to learn , it makes you frustrated as a result you do not know from where to start or what do to in leveling up the language ,so if you have a basic knowledge in german then try to read from day to day , by reading several sorts of german novels ,cos it makes you go ahead when you are speaking the language,also boosts your fluency ,what is the most important thing is that ,do not stick yourself to particualr words.Happy language learning !! take care if you need any help on improving german i am here for you my skype :qambar.rustamov96 facebook: Qambar Rustamov
