in my departure from the Navy - ended up in the 90's working some 9 years in the nightclub business. As a manager - always took care of folks like Echo that supported me and the club so folks could have a good time. In our "home" - I had always been calm when asking someone or advising them they needed to leave. When most of them would look at me or say something to escalate - I would always advise them NOT to strike me in my home. If they do - they will not make it out alive. Crazy stories over 9 years but so can relate to the convo today. Overall - we welcomed some 4K through our doors over the explosion of country music in the 90's. Best gentleman to you!

Hello from Centcal. I was taught by my parents that you always treat people with respect and kindness. If I see a name I use their name at the end of interaction when thanking them for what ever they have done. My father always told me that you always treat people respectfully even those that can do nothing for you.

Luke 6:31-36 "Do to others as you would have them do to you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful."

I always try to remember and greet/thank people using their names... but never repeat it more than once w/in a conversation. I think back to the bouncer example that Echo was talking about. We used to frequent a very "happening" club back when I was in my 20's. The bouncer who worked there was a local PO making extra money working the club. I always greated him by name and made small talk with him... basically treated him like a friend. After a few visits he would always just let my friends and I into the VIP section even though we didn't pay him or show up with a bunch of hot chicks. I never asked him for anything.

This relates to an interaction I had with a couple at work yesterday…. This couple introduced themselves via their names, called me by my name (via name tag) and thus proceeded to order their drinks. Being in the service industry, hospitality and building rapport play an important part in what I do. To me though the name intro out the gate took me by surprise. I felt like I used their names too much. Albeit unexpected and somewhat awkward (considering I referred to them by their first names too often) it led to an excellent experience during their time with me at the bar.

I think it's right that there might be two types of people regarding this issue. For myself I'm like Jocko, I *always* notice it when people say my name like that, kinda jamming it in where it doesn't naturally fit - especially if they do it repeatedly. I find that highly awkward and it immediately makes me suspicious that they want something or are trying to sell me something. Interesting because a friend in sales told me he was advised to do it, that it makes people feel good and important. Again I guess it just depends on the person? Cuz it just makes me feel weird.

I think the main reason people use someone’s name so much is because they read a really popular book called “How to win friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie. It literally teaches you to use someone’s name a lot when talking to them. I agree with Jocko, it seems a little bit weird.
@chrisoys27463 ай бұрын
There’s nuances to how to execute it effectively. Like all things there are excesses, that actually diminish the value of. I believe Dale’s point is make the attempt to develop a human connection. Use of their name can be the catalyst .

Jocko, please listen carefully (or Echo). Those click baity thumbnails are NOT making this channel better. You will be misunderstood in a bad way by those who don't know you. So Why do it? Please go back to black and white, honest video titles. I really hope that the message and being truthful is more important than amount of views. I don't know whether you hired someone to make thunmbnails but the job is done badly. Please let this channel stay professional like it is. Maybe I am over reacting, but maybe not. I can somehow see small, slightly, early signs when once a great YT channel starts to lose its uniqueness and original style. Stay on the path brothers and don't use clickbaity, childish thumbnails, becuase those who don't know you will assume automatically you're just another commentary channel. Sorry for my english
