This week I'm in Tokyo, and it's hot af bro. Hope the video helps - adapting how you study will have a massive impact on your growth. I feel like I repeat this stuff to students every day so it must not be the most obvious thing. do it! If you already do, your IQ is likely over 300, well done. Also had some fun drawing random OCs to distract you while you watch so you 'll have to watch the video twice, they're from their school's fight club obviously. Where the heck will I be next week!?

I've been a watcher of your videos for a very long time, and your tutorials have helped me and many others endlessly. However, I do also enjoy seeing more personal and creative content from you, and the Chroma Island series has always been a favourite part of your channel for me. I think you're worth more than just tutorials and servicing other artists, and would love to see you bring back more free form passion projects, and bring back Chroma Island.

Thank you, this is exactly what I needed. I've tried learning to draw seriously back in my teenage years, but at some point plateaued and lost all interest because of that and other reasons as well. Many years later I try again but I was feeling like autopiloting, couldn't figure out the "right" mentality for drawing. Regardless of the end result I felt like I was doing it all wrong. I'm rebooting my career with this mindset! :)

One tip I have and I started using myself recently is related to observation skills - when you look at a drawing someone else made, at a photo or at real life stuff or people, try seeing how well you can visualize the inside of it, the structure, the skull, the things that comprise that thing or person or animal or whatever. The more you do it, the more your brain will know how to do it better.

My depth observational skills/sizing are so off. I know if you practice you'll get better, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm beyond help lmao.
@Lizard1582
@Lizard1582 Жыл бұрын
Try squinting to simplify depth, and map out the subject before sketching the actual forms, simple line for the spine, legs and arms. the upper arms and legs are roughly the same size so cut those in half to see where the elbow/knees lay. Just simplify firms and consider their relationship to the rest of the subject (ie, legs are two tapering cylinders that make up almost half of our height)
@glucoseexplorer
@glucoseexplorer Жыл бұрын
@@Lizard1582 i’ve been trying to do this! i also practice by looking at photos of real people and drawing shapes over them then next to the photo to represent the body parts. i just need to be more patient i guess, bc i’m clearly not someone who “gets it” easily with this subject matter. 😭😂
@thaaboijay7162
@thaaboijay7162 Жыл бұрын
@@Lizard1582I learned this recently, when looking at depth in an object or shape, there’s the x axis for length, y axis for height. And the z axis. Can this help for leaning the depth of an object in your opinion?
@Lizard1582
@Lizard1582 Жыл бұрын
@@thaaboijay7162 That sir, is the foundation 3-point perspective and its the ultimate confirmation that a subject is in the 3rd dimension. If by "depth" you mean how the subject falls in 3-D space that yes, it's incredibly useful knowledge for that.
@thaaboijay7162
@thaaboijay7162 Жыл бұрын
@@Lizard1582 Okay good! Im a step in the right direction. And by depth I just meant the part of an object that emphasizes the 3 dimensionality of it. Like how a cube has the front plane, the top plane and the side plane that shows it’s depth.

My problem is that I did a study once, and it came out looking almost perfect. Except the proportions were all off. Like, the nose was proportioned exactly right. It looks identical to the study. Which I was very proud of. But, I had zoomed in too much and the nose was miniature on the character's face.

Every time a video of yous pops up, it becomes more clear on what I need to do to improve. Now, I study when there is a specific thing that intrigues me or I have trouble drawing. Also using a ton references, breaking things down into simple shapes, and focusing hard on construction while I work on my project has been more beneficial since I am forced to improve on all fundamentals on the fly. Also, does anyone know how he records this timelapse without the program’s interface?

Hey i got a suggestion for the next video! I recently had struggles with the semi realsm style, it is a style in which most people don't keep the lineart at the end.
