Hello my dear friends🙂 In this episode I started lifting heavy logs using a system I saw on Erik Grankvist's channel. Erik is a great inspiration for me. I've made two more rows of logs since the last episode so a total of 8 rows of logs are done and I still have another 4-5 rows of logs to go. In the small house, I moved the bed down because it was too warm upstairs. In the next episode I will be building the front porch on the small dock and continuing on the walls of the main cabin. Thank you all for the positive comments. I appreciate it very much. I would also appreciate a lot if you can support my channel by subscribing! If you want additional information for the video, you can turn on optional subtitles in the video. I'm a 65 y.o. retired Carpenter. I didn't have many guys that worked as hard as this kid. He's got very good skills and knows how to NOT get hurt. I finished off my career in Alaska where we worked 10-12 hrs. a day 7 days a week. Big bucks if you could handle it. I did it for 6 years straight until my back wouldn't let me do it anymore. This guy will be a boss in a few years if he sticks with this work. Way to go kid!!

Matthias you are a hard worker, and not afraid to give credit where it due for Erik's channel inspiring you!! I think my grandfather did this when he was your age!! I am 67 and living in Phoenix, Arizona, I remodeled every room in my house with help, you seem to be doing fine on your own, but please take care of the back, otherwise when you get my age you will cursing at yourself for not!! Now when you get done you will have the satisfaction of having built your cabin with little or no help other than your Dad hauling materials for you!!! I did not build my home, but treating it with tender loving care. Please make sure you tell your Dad you Love him along with any other family members that is priceless!!! God bless you!

Matthias on average how many logs can you coplette in one day. When you first built your bed my thought was thats going to be hot up there guess i was right lol Being Canadian I was happy to see your scribe tool was made in Canada. You are doing a awesome job young man. I have watched all of Eriks videos he is also a very talented young man
@MattJacobs-14 ай бұрын
The hewing itself only takes half a day so I am able to hew two logs in one day. This is also the way I work - I'm working on two logs at the same time. But it is necessary to take into account that there is still a lot of other work before this: choosing the right log, the second peeling, scribing, measuring, setting up, constant calibration of the scriber. Later, I treat the logs, drill holes, add moss... And I also film all of that, which also takes a lot of time. In the end, it turns out that I manage to make roughly 2 logs in six days, so 2 whole rows in about 3 weeks. Even if it takes longer, I still enjoy it a lot and I'm happy to share it with you :)

Hello from NZ. Your log-fitting is superb; and all your work is amazing! I have built two houses myself, and know what a challenge it is. There is a lot more to it than putting logs together. There are tools to keep sharpened (and you seem to do an excellent job of that); and the log trimming takes much more than the two or so minutes that we see. You have to feed yourself to keep up your strength, which you also seem to do quite well; and then you have to contend with the inclement weather. You have Someone watching over you. You are blessed.

Matthias, It’s taking shape and looking so good. Using the new method of raising the logs is a great idea, but I saw you had your hands full with a couple of logs that didn’t want to cooperate. You stuck with it and got them up, good going. I noticed that the tool (scriber?) you use is made in my country, Canada. I hope it works well for you. Suggestion- run the parbuckle line from the anchor point st on end, up over the wall, down round that end of the log, up to you, then back down around the other end of the log, back up over the other end of the wall, and down to an anchor point at that end. Then pull from the centreof the line. Rig a two to one purchase to the parbuckle line if you need to..

Watching a craftsmen work is quite in mesmerising! Tell me does the moss chinking shrink back as it dries out? You don’t seem to mind working outside in all weathers, you certainly had plenty of wet weather to contend with in this episode. It’s quite amazing just how inventive you are when it comes to moving the logs from their original pile, as the saying goes “ necessity is the mother of invention “ certainly the case here! Hopefully the weather will be kinder to you in the next video. Less rain and not too warm as it’s such physical work.❤
