In your example, you used a 17 DTE 40 delta. You got $410 of income. What would you earn in income over one year if you never got assigned and these numbers remained consistent? Assume a 360 day year, divided by 17 DTE = 21 times you could repeat this trade. 21 x $410 = $8,610 annual income. You had to commit $13,500 throughout the year, so your annualized return on capital is 63.77%. Pretty good. If you got assigned from time to time and earned capital gains plus income from covered calls, it would be even better. On the other hand, if you had an account with $135,000 and were willing to commit all of it to this strategy, you could earn $86,100 in annual income. Of course, the risk is a market crash and you are holding NVDA. Then you would still be able to sell covered calls. You would certainly want to diversify your portfolio among other stocks or ETF’s.

Great video, Davis (as always)! I’m curious about your thoughts on using a strangle or a covered strangle as an alternative way to implement the wheel strategy. Would selling a strangle (cash-secured put + call simultaneously) offer similar benefits while potentially increasing premium collection for the same BPR, or do you find it riskier compared to your approach? Would love to hear your take on how these strategies compare. Thanks again for the valuable insights!
@AJohnson03254 күн бұрын
I would never sell a cash secured put. They can’t beat buy and hold. I also wouldn’t sell uncovered calls on individual stocks. If it blows through your call you’re in big trouble. I don’t generally like calls unless it’s buying deep ITM LEAPS. Most people I’ve seen that make tons of money with options sell options on futures but you need a big account to get portfolio margin and if you don’t know what you are doing you will easily lose everything and maybe even go into debt to your broker. Trading options is already like trading stocks on steroids. Trading options on futures is like trading steroids on steroids.
@pragmatica10324 күн бұрын
@@AJohnson0325 Yes selling options can definitely beat buy and hold if you take the time to learn how to. Especially in times where the market is stagnant or bearish. Though this is definitely not suited for everyone. May not fit you, and that's perfectly fine. Following a Tasty Trade approach to the T like Davis is generally recommending allows to manage risk much better than with stocks. Not looking to make home runs here, just looking for many base hits. Trading small & trading often using a number of strategies and underlyings is the way to go IMHO. To each investor/trader their own preference. Happy investing!

Diversifying your investments can help you manage risk while aiming for solid returns. It might be a good idea to explore sectors that tend to do well during inflation, like utilities or real estate. My advice to grow a small portfolio like that is to concentrate on return on capital, and NOT on how much money you can make. For example, I recently bought 100 shares of OPTT for $70. I am selling CCs for $5 for 2 weeks at an appropriate strike price. $5 sounds worthless until you figure that $5 is 7% ROC in 2 weeks! Multiply that by 26 and it is an annual ROC of 182%!!! Any ROC above about 30% is great. Use that mindset and you will do well.
