I would advise you take a business class before trying to tell others that you make $5100 a day. That’s HORRIBLE false advertising. You got inventory with an estimated VALUE of $5100 in one day, not including COGS, fees, shipping, etc. You then go on to confirm your average sell thru rate is 90 days, but what about the pieces that don’t sell? What about offers or discounts? Ugh.

Thank you for your comment! I really appreciate your input. The title reflects that I added $5,100 in inventory value to my business today. I did my best to explain that in the video. I completely understand the sentiment of your comment. Again I really appreciate your feedback. It's feedback like this that will help tailor my future videos. Thanks again and have a wonderful day 😊

It would be nice to see you work in real time. Photographing 250 items a day sounds great, and I'm interested in seeing how you're able to do all that (1 min per item as you mentioned). That would be really inspiring! Even if it's just 25 items or so, just to get an idea.

I would love to make a video like that! The only thing preventing me from doing something like that is that I film these videos and take photos for my inventory both on my phone. Once I upgrade to a dedicated youtube camera I will surly do that. Maybe I can convince my fiance to let me use her phone to take some time lapses of me working in future videos. Pictures are easy once you find a rhythm and a system. I personally just copy and paste what other people have put for the same item and then reword it, but definitely do not do this method if you are newer. Sometimes things look like something else but they are not. Also this is like a job, while you might be thinking being your own boss is fun, if all shit hits the fan you will have no one to blame but yourself. It can take several months if not years to memorize all the vintage tags so definitely do not try this unless you already have a full time job.

I think most of the donated clothes are clean, and when buyer gets it they will wash it again.. if he would do it too, that would be 3 washes without anyone wearing it... Meanwhile new clothes in store can be tried by many people and never cleaned..😀 and didn't come to store clean to begin with, like previous post mentioned.

Do you take measurements? If you don’t, do you get requests for measurements after you’ve listed the item? I dread taking measurements & that’s what keeps me from doing more clothes
@vintagebyjacob
@vintagebyjacob Жыл бұрын
Great question! I do not initially take measurements. I prefer to take requests for measurements. It all comes down to time for my business. I find it more effective to do measurements on the back end for serious buyers rather than upfront. For someone who doesn't process as much inventory as I do I would recommend taking measurements as it is a common request. I expect this to change as I start to hire employees, but for now that's what I do. Thanks for the awesome question! 😀

To all the doubters, making $5100 on those 300 items is absolutely doable. He has an ASP of $17 and some of those items will sell for a lot more than that. Maybe the title was a little clickbaity....should be more like "How I Add $5,100 of inventory to my Store in One day." If you're a reseller that title is still engaging because sourcing 300 items in one day is hard freaking work. Good job, Jacob!

Do you ACTUALLY believe he is selling 300 items a day, every day?? If he is making "$5100 a day" and he is doing this every day, 5 days a week (20 days per month), then that would add up to $1,224,000 per year! Do you REALLY believe this guy is making $1,224,000 per year selling some alleged massive amount of clothes, each day, all by himself? (Or even with a helper, of which I don't remember him saying anyone is even helping him)? He is HUGELY misleading people with the title of this video. He keeps posting that he says in the video that he "added $5100 inventory" that day, and THAT is how he came up with the "$5100" number. Again, this is SO misleading. What he ACTUALLY did was this: He spent $480 on clothes ("$1.60 per item" he says) that he HOPES will EVENTUALLY sell at an average of $17 per item. With all these facts in mind, this video is a joke.
@theresourcerie
@theresourcerie 6 ай бұрын
I watched this a year ago so I don’t remember what he said, but I can speak for myself. My average sell price is $32. I list 25 a day and sell 25 a day. I work part-time and have 1 girl who takes my photos. I source and list by myself. In two hours at the bins I can get between 40-50 items.
@Quickdraw1111
@Quickdraw1111 6 ай бұрын
@@theresourcerie Congratulations. You're doing very well. BUT, are you doing anywhere near $1.2 million per year, as the guy in video essentially alleges he is doing (and all by himself, he suggests)?? If you add up the numbers he gives in his video - along with his claim of making "$5100 a day" - then that is how I calculated how he essentially claims he is making $1.2 million per year selling used clothes (and again, doing ALL that inventory and work -- ALL by himself, without any help). I am not making a point about him being better than you. Quite the contrary. I am making the point that if you (or anyone else) believes his joke video, then, as the old saying goes, "I got a bridge in Brooklyn that I'd like to sell you".

Love this video! You find some great items at the bins! Do you see a bump in traffic and sales when you list a bunch of items in one day, as opposed to the same amount of items each day? (For example listing 30 items in 1 day instead of 5 items each day over 6 days) Also, would you consider doing a 2022 recap of your business, including your gross sales and net profit total and also broken down by platform and which ones you had the most success with? I’ve seen other resellers do this on KZbin and not only was it helpful but it attracted a lot of attention 😊

They judge your clothes the same way. why waste time on iffy items. Shoppers/clothes buys have a similar approach as well. If the buff x folks dont want an item either i wont even take it back. time is extra money. why waste it. much better off taking a chance on a hammy down top designer item. i would personally wear scratched ray bands way longer than non branded with a scuff or two. unfortunatly consumers are human and dont want to be judged neg by society.

Advice , you should be more descriptive in your video about listing. Congrats on having a business and inventory of projected cost. Maybe your are one of the few who avg 17 dollars per item, but I can tell you just on the items you mentioned, I also have posted similar brands and took more then 6 months to sell. Also 1 min per item to list is not correct. Yes people have a system, but you still have to look, cross reference, weight the items, etc and by the time it’s been 6-10 mins. Templates help when you cross different apps, but would like to see the video on how you actually do 1 min listings. Not hating just being real. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I think that is a exaggeration. I have sold on eBay for 10 years part time. Maybe you had a day or two where you sold that much , but every day or even half of that I say no. And all the bins here have regulars that are very aggressive and it is not easy to get good things. It is very stressful.

You do a good job explaining what you mean in the video but it’s the title that’s misleading. “How I Make $5,100/Day Reselling” means you have revenues or profit of $5.1k per day, which obviously isn’t what you meant. Just my two cents… keep up the informative videos and good luck on your business this year!

EXACTLY!! If he is making "$5100 a day" and he is doing this every day, 5 days a week (20 days per month), then that would add up to $1,224,000 per year! Does anyone REALLY believe this guy is making $1,224,000 per year selling some alleged massive amount of clothes, each day, all by himself? (Or even with a helper, of which I don't remember him saying anyone is even helping him)? He is HUGELY misleading people with the title of this video. He keeps posting that he says in the video that he "added $5100 inventory" that day, and THAT is how he came up with the "$5100" number. Again, this is SO misleading. What he ACTUALLY did was this: He spent $480 on clothes ("$1.60 per item" he says) that he HOPES will EVENTUALLY sell at an average of $17 per item. With all these facts in mind, this video is a joke.

Just going to keep it real as someone who does 6 figures in pre-owned clothing with a very high STR. I'm highly skeptical of the claim of listing 250 items after sourcing 300 at the bins all in one day. The return rate must be astronomical because that's simply front, back, tag, logo, wrap, done. No washing (bins notoriously have smelly/dirty clothing), no measurements (used clothing typically shrinks or expands depending on the wash history and size of previous owner), no title optimization, no price research, no item specifics -- you're going to have items sitting forever unless you just run all at auction. The prices you mentioned were very optimistic coming from experience. Not trying to hate, but this video is just very much unrealistic and not what one should expect. A much more realistic and profitable goal is to source 30 or so very good items a day and list about that amount per day. That's a manageable amount and is easily 6 figures with a low return rate and good customer service. This model is a good way to have thousands of items that will never sell, tons of returns, and lots of negative feedback.
@Quickdraw1111
@Quickdraw1111 6 ай бұрын
Someone posted in which she said: "My average sell price is $32. I list 25 a day and sell 25 a day. I work part-time and have 1 girl who takes my photos. I source and list by myself. In two hours at the bins I can get between 40-50 items." My question to you (because you are in this business) is: What is the likelyhood that someone can have an average selling price of $32 for a used article of clothing? Doesn't that seem VERY high for a USED article of clothing?
@criticalmassiveenterprise
@criticalmassiveenterprise 6 ай бұрын
@@Quickdraw1111 It's actually very doable in used clothing. You just have to be pickier about what you sell. But don't think in terms of "every item I get has to be selling for $30...", it's much easier to think in terms of, " 1) I'm going to sell a lot of basic, run of the mill items that are widely available but desirable ($7-$15/profit -- pay $1-$3 and sell for $10 to $20+shipping) 2) I'm going to find some items that were bad buys and I just break even on or only make a few bucks ($0-$6 or even a loss of money--just move them, they take up physical space and mental real estate...not worth hanging onto) 3) I'll get better at finding those desirable items that aren't saturated yet (several daily sales of $20+/profit items---pay $5-$10 and sell for $30-$50+ shipping) and 4) I'm going to find a few bangers on more rare occasions (pay $1 to $20 and make $30, 50, or even $100/profit.) The good items will bring your ASP up, but the steady, low profit items are the pulse of your business. The majority of clothing sellers get into trouble when they forget the main rule of reselling used clothing: cash flow is king. You're better off breaking even, getting that money and just buying something else vs hanging on for dear life in hopes your unicorn buyer comes along and pays up for it. The reason for that is because you get BETTER at knowing what sells and you learn more as time goes on, so you can redeploy your profits more wisely as time goes on.

You said you have over 300 items that will NET you $5,100. I would suggest you revise your language to say you have 300 items you hope to sell for a GROSS sales amount of $5,100 - your NET will be after eBay fees, cost of goods, postage, shipping supplies. I understand your desire is to get viewers, but misleading titles don’t help people get started in reselling. Not hating, just an observation.

The haul in this specific video did take 2 days to accomplish. Typically, listing 100-200 items is extremely practical. It all comes down to having good inventory/listing systems in place. For example, have listing description templates and efficient photo routines. Now, is it hard work? Absolutely. Am I willing to work a 12-14 hour day to accomplish a big haul of inventory?
