I didn't get it to this level, but last fall I got a load from Chipdrop. I had to work for a weekend and then I got 6 in of snow. I figured I'd move it in the spring after the melt. We then got 3 more ft of snow, but the pule was composting and steam was coming out! There was good stuff at the bottom

Jack, when making up my planters I fill the bottom with wood chips (from chipdrop) that have been sitting over the winter, add kitchen scraps, and the compost from my piles. The wood chips reduce the weight and the kitchen scraps seem to attract worms while giving the microbes additional "food" sources. Have a bioreactor going from the fall and will run that material against my usual compost so I can see what the difference is. Also, I use crushed chicken egg shells, after watching your video I may look into adding other sources of shells. Great video, thanks.

That’s a fantastic way to do containers. Only reason I don’t is almost all of mine are flow through wicking beds.

I was mixing seed starter soil mix last weekend and did not use perlite .I think I will use some next time. For a good mixing gage. Thanks

I like less perlite in my seed starter mix and more in the potting mix. but they may be just me. :)

Good info Jack. If you get close to Nashville come by and I can load you up with quality charcoal. How did that bag of maple work for your burnlast fall?

Been collecting biochar from wood stove So if I crush the chunks to pellet size I’ll be good ? Thanks for all you do
@survivalpodcasting Жыл бұрын
Sorta kinda. First thing is that actually "biochar". When dry it should sound like glass, if you get it on your hands till they are black they should rinse clean with just water no soap. When crushed it should be black all the way through. If you have that you have biochar. If so that is small enough but smaller is better. For more on biochar see this page www.thesurvivalpodcast.com/biochar

I think people confuse charcoal and biochar, maybe clear that up in a future q&a episode. :)
