Hi, if you put the cold melting jug on your scales (then zero scales) you could measure the wax straight into the jug, then pop that in the saucepan. Would save one step and some spills.

6:13 I’m making my own soaps, with NaOH and oils/butters, and I went to a workshop to learn how to make them. The instructor told us that since you work with high temperatures and essential oils lose their good properties, except the smell, in high temperatures, using them is a waste and a good perfume oils is a better option. IMO this applies to making candles too. I like a good DIY videos, those being on a home renovation/decoration or on smaller things like making candles. So, thank you for sharing.

Hi Emma great video..My sister-in-law started to make scented candles a good few years ago it started purely as a hobby..She then went on to make bath bombs (which are divine👍) And she makes reed diffusers.she now has a small online business (she's retired) ..She has watched your video (on recommendation from me😊) And she said everything she's watched you do is spot on.👍😊.like you said you can adjust and tweak to your own preference including the choice of wax & essential oils... great stuff best wishes as always to you Simon & furbabies Xx

the fragrance is calculated according to the weight of the wax and is calculated at 10%. Your candle was 586÷1.10, it is equal to 532 grams of wax and it would have 10% fragrance, which would be 54 grams of fragrance

Great video - I've used left over wax for candles that don't burn all the way down to meake new small candles (I bought a few wicks). However I just melted the wax in a pot and didn't realise you have to check the temperature! They've been ok but I want to try doing it properly now. Btw I use my hot tap to fill the old candle holder with boiling water - that removes the was really well (in a big lump like when you put your one in the freezer) and also loosens the glue at the bottom of the old wick. One of the reasons I'd like to make my own is to make them less polluitng - last Xmas I bought very expensive candles from Anthropologie and they 'smoked' really badly, the inside of the glass holder went black and the mirror on the wall above them got really dirty! I also find Yankee Candles do that too - really puts me off them.

Great video, thank you! You are correct about the oils. The main difference is that essential oils are 100% natural and have therapeutic properties, whereas fragrance oils are not. They are man made and merely offer a fragrance. Remember, whatever we inhale is absorbed into our body.

When you have animals in the house, I would recommend that you do some reading on the chemicals in the wax and fragrance products you are using. I say this as someone who has read a lot about these types of products because I have cats in my home. After I did my research, I no longer use scented candles or diffusers.
@EmmaHill2 жыл бұрын
I’ve read similar articles which also say you shouldn’t wear perfume, body lotion or use scented washing detergent/fabric softeners but also I’ve also read others that offer conflicting advice saying there’s no proven scientific evidence 🤷🏼♀️ We always make sure there’s ventilation when burning a candle but I suppose this is down to each individual to decide on.
@sewsew1002 жыл бұрын
@@EmmaHill I suppose it depends on what is in each particular product as some ingredients are more natural than others - although, even some natural essential oils can be toxic to pets, which I was surprised by! Thank you for taking the time to reply to my earlier comment.

I don’t have asthma and I don’t get sneezing from them but the beauty of making your own is that you control what goes in them and how much. If your nose is sensitive then you could make a much milder scented candle if you wanted to try it. But I’m no doctor so I’m not giving medical advise 😆
