I am 26 years old, and my parents are protective & strict. I explained to them that I take responsibility for myself and start a new life & fresh chapter. However, my mom laughed at me for my goals, making me unhappy. She is a judgmental person. I am hard of hearing. You know deaf & hard of hearing people can do everything. I hope to move into my friend's house next year. I have to keep chasing my goals and be a courageous woman.

I think we can start a community for all the Indian women who want to runaway from their toxic households I’m planning to move out, once i turn 18 in a year and i want to make friends who’d help each other out in this situation we can support each other financially and morally

As someone who lives in Delhi I totally get why you couldn’t just move away for college or jobs. I kinda like you always had the desire to be my own person, live independently and then marry someone when I am ready. I also realised this thing pretty early on, that you don’t just get up and leave Delhi, and the only way I could convince my parents is by moving out of the country as a whole for college. Because if I get admission in Bangalore or someplace they would be like beta just go to DU, and I really would never leave Delhi for any other place in india tbh. But they agreed on letting me leave the country for studies and I feel like this is the only way I can ever prove that I am not a kid to them Edit: well guys I did it! I moved to the uk and my parents have kind of acknowledged the fact that they can keep track of my every move…but living with your parents isn’t bad, I’d you need help or fall I’ll they are always there…one you move out you have to do everything alone

I left my parents after getting financially stable , they abused so much , I lost all my childhood , it was hell for me...can't leave house in India during your childhood due to India's situation, left the country too because can't live with people who think beating kids is fine . I am so happy and peaceful after leaving my parents and India. It was not my mistake to be born in a country full of abusive parents who thinks it's normal. Things are so different abroad and so good.

Similar mentality it seems for every Indian parents...its Just that my parents are very loving yet too Overbearing at times and treat us as a 30 yr old kid..I can't go to gym, can't date, cant bring any equipment home due to lack of space!!..its very important to live alone and I have been working since last 11 yrs and earn for my family too and managed my parents to finally move out 😂

i am in 12th grade and i really want to move out but my mom loves or ig thinks too much about what will people say. They always say that they will get me married by 22 which is ridiculous i really want to do something and marry someone i love but they think that i should just listen to them and stay quite. they are quite educated and both of them are business person but still they have such a conservative thinking i really want to be by my own. but i used to think i will hurt them or life will hit me so hard because parents are everything but they are just controlling and nagging. but after watching this i have courage and i will really go to college and move out

Hey Nitya…all the best for your journey. Remember while parents usually want what’s best for us, their experience is also only limited to what they’ve seen. If you want to explore, study and grow, you should definitely give it a shot :)

Japanese 32 year old, here. I always reject the collective and choose to live life on my own individual terms. My blood relatives and alot of people around me didn't take kindly to that, especially considering that my parents are religious nuts. I even had to learn martial arts at a very young age, because there were instances where some blind patriot sheep would literally try to physically fight me, because of the old collectivist idea of "if you refuse to conform, then we will force your hand, by any means necessary." I was always told that I'm "selfish" and "entitled" because i reject the notions of "you must abide by the same beliefs as your parents, otherwise, you're SeLfIsH," "you must marry within your own race, otherwise, you're SeLfIsH," "you must have children, otherwise, you're SeLfIsH," "you must let your parents choose your career, otherwise, you're SeLfIsH," "you must take over the family business, otherwise, you're SeLfIsH." At 18, I chose to leave Japan and move to Canada to live on my own. Needless to say, my individualism is not treated with disdain or animosity here, as it is in the East. I have a great paying job that allows me to live on my own and a large circle of friends who accept me. It's great to see more Asians reject the collective and embrace the individual.

Also, another important thing to know, anybody who is 18 or older does NOT need to justify wanting to move out and you do NOT need your parents' permission to move out.

Hey...so moving out involves a lot of financial stress. If you can get a job/gig that can pay you enough to make rent and meet your living expenses (food, bills etc) then only move out. Otherwise get a gig, save up a little and then do it.

i have a big problem here....i live in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I cant even rent an apartment to live alone....the owners only want families or there are hostels...but even hostels are for students of a university or a college. what should i do now...my family is conservative..they force me to do things i dont even believe and cant tell them that either...our laws are useless for girls..i just found out today that there are no laws about forcing for marriages in our country...i was pretty shocked seeing this..what should i do?

@@joyfall777 you know, if you're over 18 it's best to just move out. If you want to tell your parents about moving out then only do it after you've moved out (hope you know the reasons) and since you are over 18 even if your parents send police to find you they wouldn't be doing anything as you are an adult capable of looking after yourself, in fact, I think police wouldn't even come to you if your parents tell them your age because an adult moving out of a house is none of anyone's business. So the only thing to care about is money. Get that money and get moving. All the best for you and me (as I'm too getting the hell out of here 😂)
@AdeteDahiya

Yes agreed. Because in a situation where you’re facing abuse, there is not much of a choice besides moving out. If you’re legally an adult, your parents cannot call the cops to get you back
