This is great tips Emma! I have a few questions: 1. is it not suggested to disclose my current salary & expected salary to recruiter? 2. If I have several offers on hand, how many rounds of bargaining is acceptable per company?

Whenever they push me to tell them a number I will give them 100k above my target. Of course, the risk is that they may move on. But it worked fine for me so far.

Hi Emma - Thank you for these amazing videos!! I wonder should we share our deadline with recruiters? And what if they rejected my ask by my designated deadline but I still want to work for them (particularly in a one-offer scenario)? Will it affect me negatively if I eventually agree to a subpar offer? Thank you for your comments!

What's should you do if you already gave an expected salary but it was low

Thank you so much Emma! So, in your experience, are companies actually willing to wait on our decision till we are done with other interviews? For example- if I have an offer from Company A this week and actually have my final round with Company B in the next week and expecting them to decide in another 2 weeks, the difference between company A offer and company B offer is about 3 weeks. What should I do in this situation, as I would like to consider both offers to make my decision?

Hi Smriti. In this situation my advice is to do two things to make sure you have an offer from Company B to compare with Company A: 1. Ask Company B to have the interviews earlier by informing them that you have received an offer from another company (you don't need to tell the company name or the offer details at this point) 2. At the same time, request more time (1 week) with Company A, by suggesting that you want to discuss the offer details with family, or you needed some more time to think through the numbers. Most often, Company B will move their interview date earlier, and expedite the process. In case you see that both attempts above will still result in the offer from Company A expiring before your interview with Company B, you will need to make a hard decision on what you prefer. Hope that helps! Best of luck in your interviews and let me know how it goes! You've got this!

hey Emma, thanks for all your amazing job! In one role I was told at the first round that their budget is xxx and asked if I am ok with that. I said ok coz it aligns with my lowest range of the salary. Btw it is an NPO so all ppl told me that they cannot provide high salaries. It sounds not negotiable at all. What should I do not to hurt my chance?

Hi Zhe, I can appreciate your dilemma. My advice is to always delay committing to a number early in the process. Let me know how it goes!

This is super helpful! But nowadays reruiters mostly ask about your expected salary range in the first screen and see if that aligns with theirs, what should we tell them in this situation?

Some tips might be helpful -> ask for their compensation range and say you can check if it overlaps with your range, then tell them its a good starting point and you believe you two can sort out a competitive offer later after the interview evaluation

I've noticed in my interviews that from the very first interview, recruiters will try to start with a base salary range right away (e.g. 100k to 120k) and ask if you are ok with it. How do you deal with this?
@Jackson-eo7en

Tell them you do not have a specific number in mind and that you will evaluate the role and responsibilities as the interview process progresses before deciding on a number. If you're curious yourself, you can ask, "Since this is an approved headcount for the company. What is the approved salary range for this role?" This latter technique has worked for me 100% of the time and can help you understand if it's a range you're willing to take.

you can always deflect and say "Thanks for sharing that information. This is a good start" it shows that you are not agreeing to it, and you are not discounting what they offered. it shows your interest and tells them that is room for improvement!
