I've already improved a lot of my self awareness and happiness by taking advice from several of your videos. Thank you for this channel, I hope it continues to grow 💞🥺

I have never been a fan of the wheel. For the same reason you outlined above. It gives people an excuse to focus on something other than the area they know deep down they need to fix. So instead on focusing on Health, they will focus on relationships (Nothing that I would have any idea about) and then at the end of the year, they don't feel like they have made progress on their goals, when it's the fact they didn't make progress on the one goal that actually mattered. Similar to the One Thing concept. (That's the concept. Do one thing. I saved you a read of the book) I like to use the Pareto Principle (80/20 rule) where I ask myself what can I do 20% that will give me 80% of joy. Example. The house is a mess. What's one thing that makes the house feel 80% clean for me? For me, that's the floors. If the floors are vacuumed; then the laundry and dishes don't matter. For my husband, it's the kitchen bench. if the kitchen bench is cleared and cleaned then he feels that 80% of the house is clean. I feel the wheel would make me start cleaning windows instead of focusing on the floors (or the kitchen bench). Anyway, love the video. Get your coin! I support you in everything you do. Thanks for being you. 🙂

I started doing that exercise some time ago, but I have altered slightly to make it more simple. I list out 6 focus areas (chosen from a list of inspirations), and then I reflect on where I am now for each of them. Then, I write two sentences for each: what I want to, and what I don’t want to. I do these about once every quarter of the year and it really helps my focus and intentions.

I just did it, and I had an epiphany about my writing. (I replaced SO/Relationships with Writing because I'm not in a romantic relationship and it's not that important to me.) I've been telling people that I've given up on the idea of publishing because focusing on that was too stressful, so I'm now just writing for fun only. However, I realized there's a voice in the back of my head saying "But you might change your mind someday..." And that thought brings back the pressure I felt (and still feel, I guess) to produce a book series or serial for *others* to read. One thing I've been doing is participating in writing sprints here on KZbin. Sometimes they help, and sometimes they don't. I think the main reason why they don't always work is the mindset they follow, which is to PRODUCE. A lot of writers track word counts, page counts, scene counts, chapter counts...in other words, they're treating their writing like a job in which they have to stay productive. And that's the advice that's given by a lot of writers--if you're serious about it, you need to treat it like a job. But...if I treat my writing like a job, it means work. And while I love my actual job (tutoring), the daily grind of it has worn me down a lot. So if I treat my writing like work, my brain interprets it as a responsibility, an obligation. Not something fun just for me. Therefore, I'm now working on ways to get that voice to shut up and allow myself to get lost in the story the way I used to. That's going to involve going back to some of my old methods that *did* work for me that do not involve KZbin. I can always use sprints for doing other things like household chores. Thank you for helping me get to that epiphany! 💖
@SimieIriarte9 ай бұрын
Love that you made the wheel work for you. I can relate to the writing with KZbin. UPLOAD mor mor mor = work work work 😭 Tis a delicate balance. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and epiphany here!

@@PandorasExecutioner I've gone on Pinterest and made boards related to the story. I also just stare at pics that represent my characters. Sometimes I download them and put them on my computer as backgrounds and screen savers, or sometimes I print them and make posters or put them in a notebook. Another thing I love to do is listen to music. My characters are in a rock band, so I'll pretend they are performing or have written the song I'm listening to, and I'll come up with backstories about why and how they wrote it. Once in a while, I try to journal as one of my characters, or I'll write a scene or short story involving them. Hope these help! 😊

TY * 1 billion for this video because you said things in a way that I believe will finally break the log jam. your share is so real and blew me away. you really verbalized the way i will accomplish a lot in life but still feel like shit because i am procrastinating on an area that just continues to make me feel guilty for neglecting it. i really like your tip to ask about limiting beliefs around our area of neglect, because yea, that's when you need more than just goal setting. you need a mindset shift. as things are marinating in my mind, im also having this idea to only set goals i will actually achieve. which means making them easy enough that i will actually start instead of feeling overwhelmed. it's really a procrastination issue!

Hey, I love your video(s) and am almost embarrassed how invested I am in your stories of how you are navigating the challenges (I'm not supposed to cry watching productivity videos, dammit, but the one where you talk about quitting your job gave me lots of feels). In this one you mention that you are and have always been very goal-driven. It kind of struck me because when you said it I realized...I am not. It's not that I've never had any or accomplished them -- kind of the opposite. I'm an old guy, I've done a lot, and the sum of "achieving my goals" (or the goals others set for me) seems to be...well, another goal. I thought maybe there can be a different motivation -- practice-oriented, maybe? Or do I need to find other goals? Just wondering if you have any thoughts for people who AREN't goal oriented. Are they just doomed?
@SimieIriarte9 ай бұрын
Hiya! This is a fantastic question. So in the vid it would've been more clear if I had said "I've become* a very goal oriented person" rather than "I am a very...". In the vid where I talk about setting goals, I disclose that I basically never gave a crap about them because I just used the external systems I was in to dictate my progress and direction. So things like a school curriculum, coaches, etc. But once I finished grad school, I kinda was just aimlessly living life. I new what I wanted but I didn't have an outline on how to get there - no systems, nada. So I had to come up with my own version of a diploma, hence, my goals. Like you, prior to this I had accomplished a lot being goal-less. But now I just lacked a system. You are absolutely not doomed if you aren't goal oriented and honestly, I love the idea of being "practice oriented." It focuses on the the actual purpose of goals. Goals are nothing but ideal achievements that get us hyped to start working on ourselves really - not a bad thing, but can dilute the whole point if we're too focused on the outcome and not ✨ the process ✨ They're also helpful for sorting out what we want in life. But! If you already have a good grip on what you want, all you gotta do is behave in a way that reflects getting there. So go on with your "practice oriented" self and enjoy your doomless life my friend! Hope this was helpful 🤠
@creativegray9 ай бұрын
@@SimieIriarte "Enjoy your doomless life, my friend!" is now going to be my battle cry. Or affirmation. Or maybe a LinkedIn kudo...seriously, really appreciate this thoughtful answer (and to be fair, I did think, as I wrote the comment, "maybe I should watch her video on goals before I write this...nah, this is the internet, research is for the weak!" Of course, there's the "sorting out what we want in life" part that you'd think one would have figured out by 55 but, well, even without watching the video I am resonating with the "external systems dictatorship" concept. What would intrinsic motivation look like? How does one figure that out? Is it even possible to separate your nature from your nurture? (well, less "nurture" and more "conditioning" but alliteration always!). But, it gives me a place to start. And again, thank you so much for your response -- it's much more than I expected, and I look forward to both watching the goals video and also whatever you do next.

This video is another banger. I love the idea of the wheel. Out of curiosity, what could you use to replace some areas, say replace 's/o/romance'? When I go through my wheel and I put zero in that area, since I'm not really seeing anyone and the dating game has been taxing, the wheel is all lumpy, but maybe that's an area to improve later on? I don't know but I'd love to hear any insight.
@SimieIriarte9 ай бұрын
hmm great question! My first thought is to ask yourself, "is this really a zero? am i actually miserable here? or am i happy with being deliberately single right now so therefore this is a (insert number). Or, is there another reason why the dating game feels taxing?" I wouldn't stress about finding the answer to the harder questions. But just starting the thoughts could help with observations as you go out and do your thang. Hope this helps! 🫡
