Monty, What a great video. I like the fact that you went through and explained the reason for using the clear that you did as you can wet sand it. as opposed to the acrylic clear I use that has to be dry sanded. Very informative and fantastic results. I'm no way an expert but but I thank you for the mention. It was much appreciated. Look at that, I'm subscriber number 631. @@montydavis6046 the hobbyists at Hobby Works tell me that you need to be about 11 inches away from the model. Here is what I'm not understanding. They also tell me that you don't sand the final coat of paint at all. Then you put your clear gloss coat on. But here, you've put your last coat on. Wet sanded with a very fine grit if I remember. And then you put your gloss clear coat on. I have no idea which way is the right way. Or even if either way is fine.

Hello Monty. Before anything, thank you for sharing your very valued experience. the result is very impressive, beautiful finishing! Very interesting your video/technique with acrylic paint. I have some questions and I hope you can help me with them. Is that thinner, simple water?, that paint are you using is a comercial one or is special for scale models?, how much is the PSI you work your airbrush? Do you coat overall with a special kind of lacquer or it is a simple transparent acrylic spray? (I mean, Rust Oleum is the best of the best) I assume the paint is water base, am I right? Do you give two layers of paint? for how long do you allow the paint to dry? sorry for so many questions but I'm just starting to comprehend this subject with acrylic paints. I did'n finished the video and I started asking questions, that's why answers may be obvious. Thank you so much Monty! great job! blessings for you too.

I thin the paint with windshield washer fluid (blue), The paint is simple acrylic craft paint that you can get at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc. My airbrush does not have an air pressure gauge, I'm guessing 25psi. The clear is a Rustoleum 2X Gloss Clear enamel. I give at least 3 coats of paint, or until covered. I let the paint dry at least 2 hours between coats. I learned from watchin CP101, Chris Chapman and MC Model works. Check out their channels.

Thanks for watching, I have only used the 2X over FolkArt, Createx and Anita's acrylic paints.

Hey Monte, can you use clear coat on that type of paint even if it is for lacquer paints?

I don't know about lacquer clear but I have used the enamel and 2K urethane clears.

I'm pretty comfortable shooting acrylics, but my question is this- is acetone stronger than paint thinner ( I use it to clean my brushes)

Acetone is strong, I just use the blue windshield washer fluid to clean my airbrush after I shoot acrylic paints.

Have U tried floor polish as a clear, instead of the enamel clear? I heard it good. Cheers Graham.

Great Video!!..Jus curious though - what would be your opinion procedure of the percentage of thinner and paint, as well as air pressure using the Passche " H" Airbrush .. if one was to use the Craft Acrylic METALLIC paint ..thank you
@montydavis6046
@montydavis6046 4 жыл бұрын
I usually use a 50/50 paint to washer fluid, even with the metallic paints. My air compressor does not have a gauge on it so I don't know what pressure. You need to watch Classic Plastic 101, MC Model Works and Chris Chapman on KZbin. These guys are the masters with acrylic paints.

Hey there! Do you leave your mixed paints in the siphon jars or clean them each time you spray a color?
@montydavis6046
@montydavis6046 3 жыл бұрын
Once I finish the project I empty the jars. Craft paint is so cheap, if I pore out a few cents worth it's no big deal.

I am painting my first model, I got a nice finish with an air bush and acrylic paint. I did it at about 8pm and went to clear it at noon the next day and the acrylic paint cracked, did I not let the paint dry long enough or is there maybe another issue. I used wicked paint with their brand of reducer.

Since it is water based, I always let mine cure for at least 3 days to make sure all of the moisture is out of it. What clear did you use?
