Thank you! this video was very helpful. I wanted to design Ravenclaw shoes but did not know how. Is the paint retarder the same as paint thinner? And also once the paint is dry can I spray it with mod podge?

Hey there! Dont use paint thinner, it'll make your paint crumbly once it dries. The retarder keeps the paint flexible and stretchy. And theres no need to spray it once you're done painting, acrylic paint is already quite durable :) how this helps!

Great tutorial. My son has new grey canvas Nikes that's he's managed to get bleach on one already. I wondered about just painting them a darker grey or black to fix them. Would I have to prime it still or just go ahead with the darker colour? Also would fabric paint or acrylic be best for this. It needs to be hard wearing and not crack. He's very active. Thank you

Nope! Acrylic paint is essentially liquid plastic and is virtually indestructible once it dries. There's no real need for a sealant :)

I use fabric paint as a base/primer and then use acrylic paint mixed with paint retarder for the color/detail work. Hope this helps!

Acrylic paint is naturally quite durable and waterproof so there's really no need for a seal. These shoes are over a year old and still going strong!

Nope! The paint is naturally quite durable so theres no need for a seal. The shoes in the video are still going strong after almost 2 years :)

Hi Lisa! I do not recommend completely submerging painted shoes in water or putting them in a washing machine but if they get dirty, they can be cleaned with soapy water and a damp cloth. The paint won't come off =) Hope this helps!

Try using Dylon fabric dyes!just pop them in the washing machine with the dye and it should work :) done it with tonnes of clothes before so imagine it would work well with converse too

Hi Nikki! You would print the design you want onto sticker paper, peel it off, stick it on the shoe and trace it before painting. It's a quicker and more accurate way to get your design down if you're not confident in your drawing skills. I hope that makes sense!
