I keep returning to this demo and finding it more and more helpful and insightful. I focused in on the fir tree you create last, and I am impressed as hell how you manage the instruction to synch perfectly between the real-time visual moves and the voice sequence of explanation. I love a really good teacher (and spent years honing my own craft in the classroom and seminar), and to watch a good one teach is to me as fascinating as watching a fine dancer or actor. On top of that, I realize why I am so hesitant about watercolor and wet media in general. You spend a great deal of the time on this tree reminding and cautioning how to keep control of the effects you create there, especially the illusion of space and solid dimension. I had one "traumatic" time 😉 with watercolors in college in a course of theater costuming, when our designs had to be executed in watercolor and I had no experidnce. After I while the rest of the class called me "Velvet-face" because it seemed to be the only fabric I wanted to use. But it was really because the paper of my plates got so scrubbed and soggy everything looked like velvet . . . So after I watch your video another ten or fifty times, I may have another go with the watercolor. Watercolor pencils seem safer somehow than a brush and little cakes of paint. But I love what you're pulling out of this exercise.

Hey, there! Thanks so much for checking this one out, for your kindness, and for sharing about your experiences with watercolor. I do what I can to explain what I'm doing as clearly as possible, so your words mean a lot. 💚 I'm glad the video inspired you to give watercolor another try, and hope you enjoy it. Watercolor pencils do feel "safer" and more practical to a lot of people, and not so much water is required. Whether you get around to trying watercolor pencils or traditional watercolor paint again, let me know how it goes. I'd love to hear about it. :)

I'm just enthralled by this. So simple and elegant, but answers so many questions! I'm not ready for wet media yet, but these principles for really achieving depth and dimension also work so well with regular colored pencil. Beautiful!

I’m a beginner with Parkinson’s Disease which also means I have a tremor in my right hand which makes it difficult to draw good straight lines. Is it ok to use watercolour pencils to do branches, tree trunks etc but use watercolour paints for the rest?
@ErikaLancasterArt Жыл бұрын
Hi, Debra! I hope this message finds you well and enjoying your day. You can 100% use whatever medium works for you. There are no rules in art or specific ways that you "should" or "shouldn't" use any medium or combination of mediums. Do what feels good to you and leads to the outcomes that you enjoy. 💙🙌 Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment.

Hi folks I was diagnosed with Parkinson's last year and it was suggested learning new activities to keep the pathways open in your brain and make new ones. I've always wanted to paint 🎨 it's great to hear other people sharing a common goal etc.

Hi, You mention you are using Faber Castell Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils. However, you are actually using Caran d'Ache Museum Aquarelle watercolor pencils. Can you please tell me which Museum Aquarelle colors you used in this video? Thank you.
