Clean Handgun Slip 2000
amzn.to/30rbXov
Cleaning my guns is like making my own old fashions, it's like artwork. I lay everything out and carefully measure everything and savor the moment. However, by the 2nd glass, I'm just pouring everything in the glass and by the 3rd glass, it’s just straight bourbon.
The first couple times I cleaned my guns, it was pretty fun. However, the more I shot and the more guns I bought, the more I found my self trying to clean my guns as quickly and efficiently as possible.
When I clean my guns, I’m not trying to win awards for the cleanest gun at the gun range. I clean my guns so that they run reliably and not so much that I can eat off of them. Therefore, I try not to over complicate the cleaning process.
Safety:
First I make sure there are no bullets in the gun and take any ammo or magazines and move them completely away from my work station.
When you fiddle with guns as much as I do, loading a magazine, and racking the slide is second nature and sometimes you don’t even realize that you did it.
So, just to be safe, just move the magazines and ammo away from your work area, so you don’t ever have to explain to that person you brought home from the bar why you have a bullet hole in your wall.
Disassemble The Gun:
Next, I do a basic disassembly of the gun. Every gun is different, but the components are generally the same. I take the slide off, remove the recoil spring, and then remove the barrel.
I usually clean the frame first.
I’ll use a brush and brush out the Frame of the gun. Then, I grab my favorite cleaner/Lube which is gun lube from slip2000. (amzn.to/30rbXov)
Some people use a separate cleaner and a separate lube. I only use slip 2000 gun lube because it does it all and does it really well.
I put a little on all the metal to metal contact points and use a brush to loosen any dirt or carbon.
From here, I’ll use a micro fiber towel and wipe it off.
Slip2000 gun lube leaves behind a film that will act as your lubricate. However, I still add a little drop of Lube after I wipe it off just for good measure.
Next, I take the barrel and a brush and brush the feed ramp.
I’ll then take a patch with gun lube on it or micro fiber towel with gun Lube on it and wipe it down removing all the carbon build up.
From there, I take a bore brush and run it through the barrel a few times to loosen up the carbon. Then I’ll take a small patch with some gun lube on it and run it through the barrel a couple times.
I’ll then put a light coating of Lube on the outside of the barrel and wipe it down.
After I'm done cleaning the barrel I move to the slide. I’ll take a brush and try to remove any loose debris. Then I’ll take my gun lube and put a small amount on all the metal to metal contact points. Then I’ll take my micro fiber towel and rub the slide down and wipe it off.
After that I put the gun back together and I'm done.
That’s it.
Like I said, I try not to over complicate my cleaning process.
If you really wanted to, you could do a complete take down of your handgun and clean every inch of it, which isn’t a bad idea to do from time to time if you have a-lot of rounds shot through your gun, otherwise, most handguns will run reliably as long as they’re decently clean and lubed.

I like cleaning my guns it is very calming, i have over 60 guns mostly historical, Since i have so many i have to clean one to two guns a week for basic maintenance, and when i go to the range i bring at least 10 guns to shoot, i enjoy cleaning my guns its very relaxing. When its not relaxing is when i am cleaning one of my rare guns and im to worried about breaking a part thats very hard to replace.

Don't disagree with Colion's advice, but just keep in mind that each gun model has its own personality, and some ammo varieties generate more fouling than others. One gun might be flawless through 2000 rounds while another can't make it to 500 without some glitches coming into play.
@ZabDevin
@ZabDevin 3 жыл бұрын
So how often should a gun be cleaned? After every shoot or a certain number of rounds?
@rohlfing63
@rohlfing63 3 жыл бұрын
@@ZabDevin Zab, there are many reasons that nobody can answer your question. Depends on how much you shot it, cleanliness of your ammo, weather conditions (wet, dusty?) and more. If I've only done light shooting I typically wipe the exterior down with a silicone cloth and run a bore snake thru the barrel a couple of times and call it good. If I get caught out in the rain or do heavy shooting, in a really dusty environment etc. I'll generally strip it down for a thorough cleaning and lubrication. Black powder guns get a thorough cleaning after each outing.
@matthewcaughey8898
@matthewcaughey8898 3 жыл бұрын
@@ZabDevin in my case I carry in a pocket holster or IWB depending on the gun, a good pocket holster protects the gun pretty well but every few days I look for crud forming in the nooks and crannies. A simple Q-tip will be sufficient to dig out the deposits every few days, same for the barrel. I do a full breakdown once every 2 months on average. I clean out the old lubricant, I clean the junk that might have missed the occasional sweep, and I wipe it all down. After that I relube it then put it back together and wipe the excess oil off. I figure if I need it to work in a bad situation I had better take care of it. I breakdown my 2 carry guns once every 2 months in a rotating schedule. This way if a gun breaks I’ve still got a capable carry gun. But that’s my 2 cents YMMV

@67_PowerStroke

No, it does not matter as long as you don't change directions while the brush is in the barrel. A copper brush will not harm steel or chrome lining unless you bind the brush up inside the barrel. I run it in and out about 20 times real fast.
@DoctorQuackenbush

Exactly. Plus, after running Any lube or oils down your barrel, unless you’re going to store your piece for a long amount of time, to run a dry patch down your barrel to remove any excess lubricant, as this could create over- pressurization during the first round fired, destroying the barrel, making for a very bad day. Never leave excess oils in any barrel if not storing the firearm. I’ve seen it happen at the range with a Glock 22. A Murphy Moment😖

Honestly, the AR-15 just shits where it eats anyways. It's a modern, smokeless powder firearm. That means that you really don't have to clean them but *maybe* every thousand rounds? Even then, I'd bet it keeps going well beyond that round count. Buy yourself a bolt scraper tool, an AR chamber brush, and chamber mops, as well as a nice cleaning rod like a Dewey, along with a .22 caliber bore brush, and brass jag. Disassemble, use a rag to wipe off all loose carbon with a bit of cleaner, apply your favorite bore solvent to the chamber brush & bore brush. Scrub both. About 5 or so passes on the bore usually does the trick in my experience. Run the chamber mop up in there, and clean the chamber/barrel extension area. Cut an old cloth T-shirt into small squares to act as a patch to apply to the brass jag, and push the patches from the chamber to the muzzle, removing each patch as it exits the bore on the muzzle end. Do not go the other direction. And take extra special care when re-entering the brass through the muzzle. You don't want to nick your crown. It's good practice to be careful when pulling the rod back through during that step. Repeat process until patches come out as clean as you like. Run a bit of your favorite lubricant onto a final patch, and send it through to coat the bore in a light oil. Add a little oil to the hammer face, the bolt carrier, the body of the bolt (I recommend never oiling a firing pin of any firearm), [if you want] a drop of oil on the gas rings...Maybe a bit on the cam pin... That's kind of all there is to it. The first mag you run through the thing will quickly make it appear as if though no cleaning had occurred. So, clean to your heart's content if you want. Personally, I clean mine very sparingly. It just doesn't *need it* that often. But, it is good to learn.
@13BGunBunny
@13BGunBunny 3 жыл бұрын
@@rodgersmith1573 I agree except for the Bolt Carrier Group (BCG). I totally disassemble my BCG and thoroughly clean it before lubing it and reassembly as it is the most prone to malfunction when not properly cleaned. It takes only about 10-15 minutes to disassemble, clean, and reassemble. edit: Please follow the links that I posted in this discussion thread. Excellent advice. Guns are meant to be used and they can run somewhat dirty. While there is a Zen to sitting alone, listening to your favorite tunes, and cleaning you tools after a good day at the range; they don't need to be spotless. The next time they go bang, they're dirty. Only time I dread cleaning is when I break out the old Mosin and used corrosive ammo. That's gotta be done soon after the range or the rust sets in. Other than that, yup, it's relaxing and very therapeutic. Thanks for you channel.

I believe it's possible that the fibers could potentially decrease the tolerances between the metal pieces to such an extent that the operation of the hardware could be impacted. This could lead to a jam or misfire. I think lint-free cotton or similar products are the best to wipe down a weapon with.

You should use a solvent for cleaning and a lubricant for lubricating. Lubricant is not designed to break down lead, carbon, and fouling. It's not much more effort to use the correct items.
