This instructional video shows you how-I sanitize the water system of our 2020 Grand Design Reflection 311BHS. While the steps may differ from other RVs, the principles still apply. This gives me confidence that our water lines are clean and clear after sitting in storage all winter. Please consult with your owner’s manual or with your manufacturer before attempting to de-winterize or sanitize your RV’s water system. I also want to say THANK YOU to our friend, Eric, who gave me tips on de-winterizing & sanitizing our RVs water system.

We don't have to winterize, either, but our freshwater tank has never really been used. So we are flushing it with a cup of Bleach. We are letting the tank slosh and sit for 24 hours, but we aren't going to flush out the lines for 24 hours because we live in it and use the water every day. Some bleach will get into the lines when we drain the tanks, and we will do this filling and draining process two times, per the suggestion in this video.

Awesome. The water was nice and fresh when we went to use it. Just make sure you flush it really well (even after the bleach smell is gone). They also sell fresh tank solution to keep it ready for you. -)

I also have a GD Reflection and stopped putting the RV anti-freeze in the lines after draining. The reason is because the pink RV anti-freeze would dry in the nozzles of the kitchen and bathroom faucets! What a hassle!!! Spent hours last year trying to figure out why I wasn't getting any water our of either when I de-winterized. Finally figured it out when I unscrewed the spray head from the faucet. My kitchen faucet is exactly the same as the one shown in this video.

That’s really good to know. We haven’t had the problem but will definitely keep it in mind. I like not having to use it and just spraying the lining with air, but I’m always worried I left a little bit in there. Thank you for sharing your experiences!

We just bought the exact same camper you have in March 2020. I love that you are posting all this info! Sooo helpful! I have a question regarding grey tanks. What drains to Grey tank 1 and what drains to Grey Tank 2? We camped for the first time last wknd and our grey tank 1 was 2/3 reds full so fast! In two days. Just washed a few dishes mainly. No showers taken since we camped a families cabin. Can’t find the info online. Thanks in advance! Love your videos! Helpful! 😊

Laura Stohr Hello! Thanks for watching! Grey tank 2 is for the back bathroom sink and the outside kitchen sink (is my understanding). I don’t have papers on it either, just based on experience. It seems odd that your tank filled up that quick if you weren’t taking showers. We can go a weekend (with showers) and only dump when we leave. I would just monitor the water usage the first few times out and get a feel for how much you can use. Also, CONGRATS ON THE PURCHASE! 🥳

Laura, we found the problem was the size of the kitchen sink. They're huge. We just purchased a plastic container to fit in half the sink. Solved problem

@@1StrangeAdventure I had this same question about our 311BHS and asked Grand Design when I called regarding tank sizes and locations on the RV. Grey Tank 2 that takes care of the bunkhouse sink and outside kitchen sink also takes care of the half bath toilet. It's not a true grey tank. it's more of an all-in-one tank. I'm not sure how I feel about that so our rule is...Half bath toilet=Liquid only.

Should you have left the hot water tank bypassed until you flushed all the winterizing fluid from the lines? Also you said you were going to use the sanitize line up to prevent running bleach through the hot water tank but then you opened the bypass for the hot water when you go to the power fill line up. Thanks for the video.

David Powell Thanks for the comments! Yes, the hot water heater doesn’t need to be winterized. When the antifreeze was added, we used the winterize positions. Power fill goes directly to the fresh tank. I’ll have to go back and see if I inadvertently opened it. Thanks for calling that out. The end result was great. Our lines are clean and the camper did great our first time out. 🙂

When filling you fresh tank, how do you know it’s completely full? Do you use your sensors inside or is there truly a overflow valve that won’t allow it to overflow inside...

Hello. There is a tube that is coming out the bottom of the RV right behind the tires (on ours). This is the overflow tube. It will flow out of it once the fresh tank is at capacity. I don’t rely on that most the time. I’ll wait until the inside sensor says almost full and then go out and turn off the water. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Sodium Monosulfate works considerably better than bleach. its used to sterilize items used to make wine, and is used in a hole host of things is non toxic to animals in small quantities. even has medicinal property's.

Hello. Yes, we bypass the hot water so that bleach doesn’t make its way into the hot water tank. Same as when we are winterizing.
