UPDATE (July 2021): We've had a few questions on the torque values we mention in the video.
I got them from the RVAirflow document here: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/041...
It cites Coleman manufacturing as the source…
However, looking at www.airxcel.com/DesktopModule... it just says, "Proper tension has been achieved for each bolt when any portion of each gasket indicating tab has been pulled down even with the roof. See Figure 4. The upper unit has now been properly installed with optimum gasket compression.”
Our take: Use your best judgment. If the torque value seems too high, revert to the instructions from AirXCel.

I'm continuously amused by the severe lack of engineering / design of these RV manufacturers and their vendors. They build cheap crap knowing fully that its garbage and then 3rd party companies (like the inventor of this product) actually design something that WORKS and we have to then spend more $$$$. It's absolutely amazing. I guess that's what makes the economy continue to work. Either way, you always have the BEST reviews and install vids AND the best bloopers! Appreciate you both.

The RV industry is a joke. There are no standards and they have a bunch of minimum wage guys throwing these things together as fast as possible to make their quotas to make their bonuses. Most QC is poor as well. I know 2 people that worked for Monaco coach here in Oregon and they both said nobody really cared about quality. It was just getting them out ASAP.
@wannabefulltimers
@wannabefulltimers 3 жыл бұрын
@@uowebfoot you're not kidding...it really is about how quick they roll them off the production lines. But, it's not just RV's, it's new homes too. We just bought a new home (almost done being built) and these builders don't give two shits about quality. There's no pride in workmanship anymore in this country on anything...very sad.
@hermes6587
@hermes6587 3 жыл бұрын
If they built to higher standards the average buyer would not pay the significantly higher cost, since the average RV buyer only looks at only the floor plans, colors etc. Often what makes a better or higher quality unit is not readily seen or touched. The RV market is highly competitive. Further they know that for those RVers who appreciate quality will make improvements through the after market.
@wannabefulltimers
@wannabefulltimers 3 жыл бұрын
@@hermes6587 Your point is somewhat valid. However, my father has owned several RV Bus Motorhomes well over 100K in price and they fall apart just as bad. So high price does not mean better quality.

Installed this upgrade a couple of weeks ago and we just had temps high enough for a day or two to try it out. The increased air movement is wow!! Makes the window shades move a little. Started with an 84 degree inside temp and after about 45 minutes it was down to 77 and cycling properly. It will be well worth the cost. We have a 2nd unit in the bedroom that we run during the day on Hot days with a small fan on the dresser moving air into the living area which helps. The big change will be at night when we only run the main unit. Now the bedroom will be easier to cool with the increased air movement. The one thing I found during installation was after centering the a/c unit I still had a small space between the sides and the duct opening. I added a thin foam strip around the opening on the insert and it fit nice and snug. If you have a ducted unit that this upgrade applies to by all means get it.

Thank you! I watched your installation video and had my AC ready to go when the package arrived. I had it installed in about 40 minutes. The only problem I had was sliding the foam into place because it was very tight around the plastic duct inserts. Mixed up some dish washing liquid, put a light coating on both the foam and the inserts and it just slid right in. Perfect! Buttoned it up and ready for the big test. I have a wind meter and before the install I measured between 7 -9 mph at both ends of my trailer from the ceiling vents. After the install I measured between 18 and 21mph! So breezy it blew the install sheet right off the table! Now my wife is worried it will be getting too cold in the trailer with the AC on. My RV is a 30 foot Starcraft Autumn Ridge 266RKS travel trailer with a 15k Coleman Air Conditioner. Can’t wait for the summer heat to really try it out. Used your discount code and saved a few bucks. This is a great addition. Yes, a little pricey, but this really works. I ordered one a while back and just installed on the front a/c. It will be nice to be able to run the front a/c and push most of the air towards the living area. 15,000 btu a/c puts out way too much air in the small bedroom. Ordered 2 more. Used the Changing Lanes link and CHANGINGLANES discount code. Thanks Chad. Another great video.

Installed it before it got hot here in NE Ohio. Last year our Coleman A/C used to have to run almost continuously on high fan mode when the temps were in the 90's. And, we'd have to run the bedroom A/C to knock the temp down before bed. Now with this installed our A/C runs for a few minutes at a time, at low setting, on even the hottest days. And, we haven't had to run the bedroom A/C at all! Also, it now blows so hard-even on low setting-that it blows the dogs hair around while she's laying on the floor! Awsome product!

We just spent the weekend in Quartzsite, Arizona, where the temperature was 85 degrees on Friday and Saturday. This was our first trip where we could do a real world test with the RV Airflow installed in our Coleman Mach 15k AC. Prior to the install it took quite awhile to reach the set temp on the thermostat once we plugged into shore power. It was 85 outside and 81 inside when I first powered up the trailer. I set the thermostat to 76 degrees and within 30 minutes the AC shut down and the inside was a cool 76 degrees. That's never happened that quick before. During the day when the AC restarted it only ran a few minutes before it reached the set temp and shut down. It has never done that before either. It used to run quite awhile before reaching the set temp. It also seemed to run a lot quieter because when it ran we didn't have to turn up the volume on the TV like we did before. Needless to say we are both impressed with the great improvement. It works better than we expected and so glad we found this video! Best mod I have made to my trailer since new!

@@jeffward7502 i don’t know, sorry. I suggest you Contact them. The question is If the plenums are identical for the 29-5 (mine) and your 32-5. They will know if anyone else has installed it on the 32-5. If not it is real easy to take a few measurements and find out. They can help you with this. Let me know if you additional assistance. Good luck. Love the 32-5. That is the model I wanted to get. But I’m happy with mine.

I watched your video and I thought what a great idea. So I had to go out and look at my AC on my 2018 Coachman Freedom Express. The Furrion AC is already built this way with separate chambers. But it gave me an excuse to wash my filters.

1 Thing I did to my standard AC system not having these Air flow devices was put foil tape over the slider vent on the inside of the cover to keep it from vibrating open and rattling while the units are running. Nothing worse than a rattle while you are trying to watch TV, since those slide vents are now obsolete with the Air flow system it wouldn't hurt block them off, this will prevent accidental opening and recirculation of air back into your unit. My OCD for rattles and noises is always in full effect while driving a vehicle or in an RV, I will not rest until I find the rattle or squeak and have it fixed.

I have been using Swifter sheets in front of the stock ac filters and find that I can see when it's time to change just by looking up, they pull so much dirt out and I don't believe it impedes the air flow very much. Easy to cut them to size. I will be installing the RV Air Flow this spring, very good video!

yep in never ceases to disappoint me when i see how the rv ac (& other things) are made, its really sad in so many ways would have been great had USA had a strict stringent code build for rv's starting in say 2000 since i just bought an 2000 alpinlite 11DX ; ) any way I have a coleman & I guess I'm gonna ad this to my rebuild project, thanks for the info. PS really disappointed you guys didn't sit right in front of ac & around the rv to at least give us a feel for what your FEELING! cooler weather but lets see what you think in 'non numbers way'

Here's a way to take some of the frustration out of getting the lag bolts lined up. Buy yourself threaded rod and cut it into two pieces. Install the rods in opposing corners put the box up with two of the lag bolts in the other holes. Then replace the rods with the other two lag bolts.

Been watching you kids for a few years now and just wanted to tell you we just bought a new Grand Design Reflection 5th wheel and they are NOW installing the RV Airflow in the AC units. I took mine apart to check before I ordered one, and WOW it is already installed. Makes a HUGE difference in the cooling and air flow.

It's a good concept and glad you put it out there. The problem with so many KZbin videos is that they aren't planned well nor rehearsed enough. This could have been much more precise and less boring if you would have done in two third the time.

Excellent video. We have a new 2022 Reflection 28BH manufactured in August 2021. Grand Design did a fairly good job with the AC install. I first thought that our single 15,000 BTU Coleman AC unit had the original design, but it actually does have the new plenum box. However, it was poorly installed. There were a few vents that had very little airflow, I could hear turbulence in the system, and the system didn't cool as well as expected. When I took things apart I found that the duct openings didn't fully align with the openings in the Styrofoam box, and the rubber gaskets were all pushed out of place so the seals were less than perfect. There were also several large gaps in the raceway duct openings. I metal taped the gaps in the duct work, fixed the rubber gaskets, and carefully aligned all the openings during re-installation. There was a significant airflow improvement and less noise from air turbulence. Chad, you did a wonderful job explaining and measuring the system and flow improvements. Thanks!
