My rule of thumb is to not get something (like new clothes or gadgets) if I don't genuinely like it or think it's going to help me . Usually anything else will be pretty useless and an unnecessary expense

The eating out with friends one is tough, especially if your friend group has a huge range of incomes! I try really hard to keep the expensive dining between my partner and I, and then whenever I grab food with friends, I usually try to make the price part of the conversation because I'm always worried about making people feel socially pressured to spend more money than they want/can.

Totally second the idea of sharing an apartment. I’m 31 and have never lived on my own, as a choice! I moved from my parents to dorms, to flatmates to living with my partner (now husband). I never felt the need to live alone, in contrary, just thinking about it made me feel lonely.

So glad you mentioned the nyc ferry! Totally underrated form of transportation. When friends come to visit from out of town, I put them on the ferry from my apartment in LIC heading towards Wall Street and they get a cheap scenic east river cruise where they get to see several bridges including the Brooklyn Bridge as well as the Manhattan skyline. I'm a 25 year old Argentinian, and i have to say, that being organized and having a good conduct whit money it's the key to save money. It's dificult when you start to have more money than u used to, because you want to buy a lot of stuff, so that idea of not increase your expening becomes esccential in this country (inflation). I lived in NYC as an analyst at an investment bank and I remember Whole Foods (at least in Battery Park City/Tribeca) would deliver your food too! Prob $7.99 delivery fee or so depending on how close you are. I lived in FiDi and also remember the local grocery store would deliver to you for free (so nice)! Really miss living there and happy to see it hasn't changed all that much since I was there!

LOVED these insights, Taylor!! Eating out with friends is a tricky one I’m still trying to balance.. I think there is FOMO there (anyone else agree??) if you chose eating in with friends vs the ‘experience’ of eating out with them. Def good to have a stocked fridge since it is a heavy reminder that food spoils and you better get to eating it haha!

I think a BIG thing you touched on is that you have to take into account the dollar cost of your time. For example, if you value your time at $50/hour and can order takeout to your house for $25 to continue working on something productive that will eventually turn a profit, then it makes the most sense to order the takeout and net +$25 into you porcket. Great video all around!! p.s. I live in Austin so I was glad to see you celebrated your 25th here. It's a pretty cool place if I do say so myself.

I moved to NYC from the UK a few months ago and really relate to your experience and advice! I too never want to live alone - I feel like there's a lot of social pressure to get your own 1 bed/studio (especially in your mid-20s in a well paid job) but I'm only 26 and I'd rather live with my friends and spend the savings on travel and experiences (and overpriced iced oat lattes)!

Hi Taylor, it was great learning about all of those tips. The cost of the subway in New York and the ferry prices are so affordable in my opinion, it makes sense as to why most people use public transit as per owning a vehicle, I would do the same. As a matter of fact next time I visit NY those are going to be my means of transportation. Good for you for renting that mansion with your friends, traveling is such a great learning experience indeed. Perhaps you can share your time down there in another video? As far as having groceries delivered, it saves me money because when I go to the store, I end up buying things not on my list. With a service, they buy ONLY what’s on my list. So that’s probably $20-$30 saved each time I get groceries delivered.
