The issue with amortizing, though, is that if you do it, then you need to amortize and add other expenses from the past too (like clothes, household items, and many other things that you buy once in a while or a few times a year). Might as well just keep your ad hoc items for the week as a proxy for average weekly ad hoc spending or just stick to talking about food/drinks and transportation expenses.
@clarabartnik28222 жыл бұрын
I love how you described your thought process justifying coffee shop trips! It’s always called out as an irresponsible expense, but there’s honestly value in going to a coffee shop to meet someone new, boost mental energy or productivity with a scenery change, etc. (not as a daily expense necessarily but every so often)

I also am building a KZbin channel, and have gotten away from working at a coffee shop because of the coffee expense. But historically, leaving my place has increased my productivity dramatically. Your upbeat message has helped me realize it's worth it as an 'office' expense, and I plan to put 'office' expense into my budget this weekend, which is waay less than renting an actual work office, so thank you for framing it that way and helping me realize a change in scenery may be just what my business needs! Next week, i'm going back to my 'office,' which is a Cafe Ladro in West Seattle, a super pleasant environment, and a five-minute walk away! Video editing only allowed during that time!! Unless a cute guy walks in and seems interested:) Which almost never happened, but will serve as a carrot on a stick to get me there. I looove your presentation and upbeat videos!!

But after watching your entire vid,I have to say - props to you. You’re doing it right. Good luck with everything. When I was coming up, it was about cheap drinks in the east village and late night dinners with hookers - not Lyft, Prime and Whole Foods. NY isn’t what it used to be - but still the best place to be if you know how to manage it.

And one of the best thing is no car monthly expenses. I grew up on the UES and relied solely on mass transit & walking. Your area is great for walking & taking in the late afternoon sun.
@ProkNo52 жыл бұрын
Love the math! One thing that wasn't mentioned that I think is a huge deal is the lack of car ownership, and how much money that saves. When people balk at urban living expenses, they often fail to calculate just how much is being saved by not driving everywhere. The average American spends about $900/month on driving and car expenses. In the city, even with the occasional ride share or bus fare, the savings of far outweighs any additional rent or mortgage costs. This is true in most cities, not just Manhattan.
@kevinkanter25372 жыл бұрын
for cost avoidance purposes, you would be lucky to be able to 'move your car from one side of street to another' for on-street parking whereas most of the time NYC apts have a parking space 'rent' as well - haven't been in NYC for a looonng time - but how expensive it is!!!

I live in Illinois. Our taxes are so high, I only eat air 6 days of the week. All my hand washing, showers, and drinking water are from rain. My clothing is all found in dumpsters outside of thrift stores. Joking, but legit, I do OMAD, and I only eat at home around 6pm after I get off work. I do all my grocery shopping at Aldi. I typically eat out once a month max. I only drink water and coffee (only made at home). I have never once drank alcohol, smoked, or gambled, and I don’t do anything else that costs a lot of money. I wear only cheap simple clothes, and I wear them until they fall apart. I’ve had the same paid off cellphone since 2015, and my phone bill is $15 a month. I’ve cut my own hair since I was 11, and I’ve only been to a barber 4 times in my entire life. I drive a 2003 car that doesn’t have working windows, radio, or car horn, and I do my own oil changes. I do however buy 2-3 video games at Black Friday on sale every year, and I order takeout Chinese for my birthday. I don’t pressure my wife to be as intense as I am, but she’s decently frugal herself. My coworkers always think I’m crazy, but I take my wife on amazing vacations, and we travel to some amazing places every year, so she doesn’t complain. We all make choices and sacrifices to achieve the lifestyle we want.

I'm 40 in StL, but I felt that 'hurt my soul' coffee pain threshold that only a frugal kindred spirit has. That responsibility will give you so much flexibility long term. Flexibility to live in one of the priciest places in the US (no judgement), or flexibility to opt for less work/lower pay if you ever choose to live elsewhere. Kudos.

They usually send me at least one free individual size cup yogurt and one free 4- pack coupon besides the 75 cent ones. When I lost my job a year ago I spent a lot of time going to grocery stores and outlets looking for bargains. They are out there. You just need to devote time to find them such as finding mark down meats almost every single day because it's close to date. Snatch it up and throw it in the freezer. I like my bananas small and half green. BT W have you heard of Walks and Wall Street channel? Tom walks around NYC and Miami is showing the sites but also talking about the stock market. my morning smoothie prep- I put bananas on a folded paper towel in the freezer. I add trader joe’s peanut butter for taste. Nice video.

I spend close to the same amount weekly living in a small 2 bedroom house in Indy, utilities, biking to work sometimes, summer pool membership, occasional coffees, car, etc. Most stuff is in walking or biking distance for me. Lots of fun free events, free catered food at work, etc. keep me around. Honestly everything in this video was very reasonable for NYC considering you probably make at least double the money of most of the people in my neighborhood, bar a few finance workers.

¡Hola Taylor!! 😀😀 I’ve loved watching this video, because I’m going to start working in Madrid in September and it’s really good to see how much do people spend in a big city like New York. In Madrid the cost of living is also very high, but there are more job opportunities. On the other hand, I didn’t know that English language has the Spanish word “bodega” (min. 1:30), it’s so cool to learn English with Taylor!! 😁😜 Best regards from Spain!! 🤗🤗

Really good to see yourself and Brett collab on both channels! 🙌🏾 Dinners in NYC are usually pricey because you guys always have to pay a tip. Something I always have to remember when visiting from England 😄 Great content👌🏾
