hey guys !! today i'm bringing you guys a video i'm very proud of. this video contains everything you need to know about self-studying korean! i poured a lot of work into this video so i hope you all enjoy it! the links to everything i mention in the video is down below!
EDIT: regarding my disclaimer, i was referring to koreaboos who fetishize the korean culture and language. there's nothing wrong with wanting to learn the language as long as you respect it!!

update: hello everyone! i have opened 6 classrooms and they're all full and unfortunately, i will be putting a pause to opening up new ones. i might open more up in the future but keeping up with the 1500+ students/6 classrooms i have now is already a lot. hope you guys understand!

regarding my disclaimer, some people are misinterpreting it and criticizing me. i am NOT SAYING wanting to learn korean for kpop, kdramas, etc. means you're a koreaboo. there's nothing wrong with wanting to immerse yourself in another culture's language! hell, that's awesome! i AM saying koreaboos, people who fetishize the korean culture and people, are not tolerated on my channel. cultural fetishization is not "cute" and it's not something that people should just be okay with. if you have a problem with that, you don't have to watch this video or any videos on my channel for that matter. so if you're about to comment about my disclaimer and criticize me and you misinterpreted it, read this comment before commenting. i am tired of repeatedly explaining to people about what my disclaimer means. i am not trying to be rude, i'm just annoyed by the number of people trying to tell me what i believe when they were the ones who misunderstood in the first place. thank you.

Are you kidding out of all the korean study video I've seen, this was the best introduction. I love how the country is getting more recognition but I hate that mainstream mindset of learning to say hi trying impress their faves fndjkdkd when it's really all about the beautiful culture rather than the 'handsome oppas'.

I feel like it's really difficult to draw a definite line between fetishization and love for another culture principally based on kpop for example. Fetishization is deriving sexual pleasure from voyeuristic activities like for some people kpop for example. So when does it switch over from fetishization to simply appreciating the aesthetical experience provided by the singers both visual and audiovisual. There is always a sexual tension there, as much as there must be there to keep people interested. If u take fetishization as a sort of perversion which is exaggerated sexual feeling, often bordering on weird things, directed towards one thing ( be it koreans or feet), than it would just fall under a sort of perversion and ofc noone wants perverts. Just my thoughts, let me know what u guys think

I'm a little late but, reasons why I want to learn Korean. - be able to watch vlives, live -google translate is usually wrong -Not have to worry about subs - i can understand Korean lyrics in Kpop songs - I want to go to Kpop concerts and fansigns but I won't be able to understand Away from the Kpop side of stuff -I want to travel to Korea in the future -their language and culture is beautiful -I want to maybe study there - I want an Asian friend (or a friend that knows Korean) so I can be walking down the street (here in Canada) and see someone I hate and be like "their a bitch" and have my friend understand but not the other person. And another reason that really encourages me is so many Kpop idols learn English for us why can't we learn Korean for them?

Why I decided to study Korean: - I already speak three wondrous languages and i have found that the language learning process is exhilarating and super interesting. It just makes me happy. -Korean sounds cool to me. The way the they don't really stress things in their speech is nice to listen to. -I want to learn a language from each continent and I still need to get one from Asia. Korean just feels like the one for me. -The way it is read and written is so curious and different than other languages i speak. -People told me it was difficult so i want to prove that I can do it. -I enjoy kpop (i actually got into it because of an interest in korean lol and it just helped aid my decision) I've been learning it for about 2 weeks now and I really like it

You just look like a rude person with a that kind of "I'm a cult" personality

@@cams5580 i mean i'm sorry you feel that way but that's your opinion. i don't tolerate the fetishization of other cultures and i'm not afraid of making it known. i've personally been fetishized because of my ethnicity and it's awful. i'm making it known to koreaboos that they are not welcome on my channel. if you have a problem with me and my choice in putting that disclaimer, you don't have to watch the video.

honestly, the things i do for stray kids on a more serious note- When I was 10 I only wanted to study Korean because I loved K-pop boys, disown me- but when I took the language seriously, I realised how fun and productive it was to learn a language you actually dedicate yourself to. Also the culture is just so neat, organised and really complete. I'm now 13 and am really, REALLY slow. But here are the tips I can give from 3 years experience: 1- If you don't have a real purpose to learn a language, don't If you don't have fun learning, what's the real point in wasting years of your life? 2- Don't be shy (put some more) Speak Korean out loud to yourself, or a friend. There is literally nobody stopping you, don't be shy to speak in Korean. ChAnCeS aRe Ur MuM aNd DaD wOn'T uNDeRsTanD aNyWaY sO tHiS iS a WiN wIn 3- NEVER, and I mean never, give up When I was learning Korean, I always gave up. I would do no more than 3 lessons and it would be horrible because I wouldgive up straight after. Quarantine has given me a chance to take up Korean and because I've really worked hard when studying thw language, I made more process in 3 weeks than I did in 3 years. Trust me, hard work does pay off. I literally went from: 저는 여자이다 to: 안녕하세요, 저는 모건입니다. 반갑습니다! and mUcH mOrE

Exactly. Sure, I have grown really attached to the music from my favorite idols, and sure I love them to death but I still love and celebrate my own culture. It's what makes me unique and it's silly to be jealous of a different culture. We are all different. Plus, who knows? You could magically be born as a soon to be kpop star in Seoul South Korea in your next life 😂. (But seriously wouldn't that be cool to be born in a different place in like a next life?)

tips/things i wanted to add : - don't worry too much about having an aesthetic notebook like hers, if u remind better with color etc do it otherwise it's a lost of time - try to plan a program of learning when ur a beginner (for example, start with hangeul, then read, present yourself, colors etc) so u can be consistent and not lost - talk to Korean native is really useful, at first i was scared bc i didn't have the level but i improved soo much since i do it! (on some app like tandem or slowly) - don't be afraid to make mistakes ! - set goals each month and check ur progress so u can be motivated - learn grammar while learning at the same time vocabulary (not separated) - follow on social media some accounts that can help u learning korean :) (these tips work for any language btw)

I started learning korean 1 month ago and I'm continuing it..... But its so hard studying without having a korean person to talk and korean grammar its very difficult I have been trying to practice it but it's really hard..... Also it has more vocabulary than english and that makes me feel stressful bc I want to know all them why I learn korean is that I want to be a medical student there I'm in Italy now btw and I think I have so much time to learn korean from now until I become a college student actually I'm 12 y old and I'm learning korean NOW bc I want to be perfect in it! Also...love your video 💜☺

Hi! I've been learning Korean for a year and a few months now so here is my advice. Don't let the language get into your head, what I mean is "I haven't studied for 2 days now!" And then you start freaking out or start setting unexpected goals. I started out like that but language learning shouldn't be a strict schedule, take your time! I'm self studying & if you are too -- make a schedule that fits you. I use TTMIK, and howtostudykorean (in dept in grammar). TTMIK have free lessons but you do have to pay for certain things & howtostudykorean is a more detailed website on grammar. And to memorize vocabulary really depends on you, I'm a visual learner so I like using quizlet for my vocabs but you can use handmade flashcards if you like. Once you have reached a basic level in Korean (for example watching a Korean video and you understand a majority of it) then you know you are at the beginner to intermediate level ^^ So now, I feel like it's that stage where you want to immerge yourself in it. Shadow what they are saying, speak with Koreans, and listen to the language ^^ I hope I helped, i really enjoy learning it and rn I'm also learning Japanese >.

Why I want to learn Korean : -I have always been interested in languages with different letters ex : Japanese, Chinese, Russian, arabian. -I just want to learn a new language lol -in my television there is a Korean show I am very interested in but there is no subtitles which makes it kind of boring so that's why I want to learn korean

I remember when I first learned Korean a few years ago. I was so interested in the culture and history and fashion and I lowkey even wanted to move there, but honestly I got introduced to all that by kpop. I’d just learned what koreaboos are and I didn’t want to be one so bad that I stopped learning cause of it (and I was learning it all wrong, I had the wrong resources and I thought it was too hard). Now I realize I’m not a koreaboo, and I’ve decided I want to move to Korea for a few years of my life. But I had to explain to my friend that I’m not searching for a korean husband, just wanna experience the culture for a few years :)
