I know this is an old video, not sure why it popped up for me to see, but I watched. I'm certified on the COC 3 by Ironmind, so I've done a bit with grippers and know a thing or two. Your video is good as far as the advice on where to locate the gripper, except that I would not underemphasize the pinky finger. You want all four fingers (obviously not the thumb) to participate, but also to be as low on the handles as possible to maximize mechanical advantage. And yes, you want to create a bit of a "shelf" with the hand, so the gripper does not slide back. But your video talks about "setting" the gripper, and for "setting," you actually ARE allowed to use the off hand not only to help position the gripper, but to start it (except if the feat you are attempting is a "no set" close). It looks like you did ALL the work with the hand that is closing the gripper. That is not bad, but also not necessary (absent a desire to do a no set close). Even for the Ironmind certification, you can use your second hand to help push the handle closed to however you like the feel, as long as you open it enough to pass a credit card through the handles after your helping hand lets go. And for other certifications, like GHP and Mash Monster, the assistance of the second hand is even more crucial. So, your video will help people position the gripper best for a "no set" type of close, and that is also a helpful starting position from which to use your other hand to push it a bit further and get it more comfortable under control, but you don't have to be that strict in order to get a valid, acceptable close in grip sports.

Everything you say is correct. Look at some of my more recent gripper closes and you’ll see I figured a-lot of what you are saying out over time.

@@passmovie Ah, yes - you are getting close to the number 3. Are you on the GripBoard? Cannon recently rated a number 3 at 137 - lowest one he ever rated - and gave it away to whoever solved a riddle. So you may not find a 3 as low as that, but you can find low 140s for sure.
@passmovie Жыл бұрын
@@vincentrivellese7695 Yes I am very close to a no3. I closed recently from a parallel set a Grip Genie level 5 rated 138 by Cannon. I have had some nerve damage in my dominant arm from an elbow injury back in 2020. Its healed but took time to come back up. I own GHP 7s and COC 3s rated 140 to 145.....and one outlier at 156. I am not on the GripBoard but read posts on it frequently. It gets really hard to progress in grippers while pushing lifts like deadlift and bench once you become advanced. My CNS often times is worn out.

it's in your interest to hold it the furthest away from the spring. Not sure if it's better to have the pinky fully participate to the effort vs. having the strongest fingers apply a greater momentum because they're further away.
@patricj9512 жыл бұрын
I think the best is to hold the furthest away from the spring as possible but still having the assist of the pinky finger.

Good video! are you still training with grippers, and how is the development? By the way: lubricate the springs. You not only get rid of the squeak but also get a better training effect.

Good video. A little chalk helps prevent the gripper from slipping towards the back of the hand as well. Keep up the great videos. All the best in 2016 from an Ironmind referee for NY state 💪

The lower two fingers play huge roll in crushing strength specially the Pinky finger... so always make enough room for the pinky.
@patricj9512 жыл бұрын
That's my conviction too. Even if the pinky is the weakest finger it's furthest away from the springs and its assistance is worth to have.

Caluses cannot be avoided with heavy workouts, but they can be managed. File them down using warm water/moisturizing cream and a pumice stone, or else they'll get too big and rip your skin off during exercise.

From my perspective, the "dog leg" is an optical illusion. Both 'legs' of the grip are 'straight' as the spring goes from grip to coil. Just flip them around. The view from one side is a mirror image of the view from the other.

If that were the case then ironmind would have never made the left turn gripper series.
