HOW TO FILM FITNESS VIDEOS PART 2: • How To Shoot a Gym Vid...
In this video, i take a bit of a turn away from the regular music video behind the scenes that you'd normally see on my channel and give an in-depth breakdown vlog on how i shoot epic gym videos ultimately tying into my first Fitness Film Tutorial! Today we teamed up with professional trainer Adam Swanson of Divergent Training (@DVTraining) as Adam and i have filmed tons of fitness cinematic content over the past two years, so i felt he would be the perfect fit to run through this gym tutorial vlog with.
As you can see, this entire video was shot handheld on a Panasonic Lumix S1 with a Smallrig Lumix S1 cage, SmallHD501 monitor and the exception of only two gimbal shots shot on a DJI Ronin M utilizing the infamous real time 'Freeze Frame' gimbal transition shot. I almost prefer running fitness cinematic videos 100% handheld as you can really get creative with your in-camera body transitions to create a very cinematic and upbeat edit tempo video!
I hope you guys enjoyed this piece of content and you picked some knowledge out of it to use in your own fitness videos! Again, this is super far off from the regular VLOG tutorial content uploaded onto my channel, however me being a full time filmmaker, i generate sources of revenue from all aspects of videography! Fitness being one of them! I feel as a videographer, being a jack of all trades type of shooter is going to gain you a great reputation and challenge you most as a videographer/filmmaker.

Haha unfortunately my GH5 for the BTS had sensor burning from filming in clubs! (Pre covid-19). I had to send the camera to Lumix to get the sensor replaced.. I’m glad you found value in the video!!!

60fps or higher is great for speed ramps and slow motion footage

I would use 120fps for speed ramping. If your camera doesnt film 120, just speed ramp 60fps clips (you can slow 60fps clips to 40% speed). I like to stick to 60fps for general slow motion! Hope this helps!

I would say shoot horizontal and crop in for vertical! If you only shoot vertical then you handcuff yourself to only editing a vertical video. This is what I do for all reel videos :)
