Hey Faye, I operated a mobile mechanical business for 8 years here in Australia. It gets tougher as you get older. Now I'm old and crusty! But just like you, I have a passion for caring for customers and their vehicles, motorbikes, lawnmovers, TV's, microwave ovens or whatever they need. I now teach part time at a college and run a business as well, combined with a KZbin channel. Busy, busy, busy! Thanks for your enthusiasm for the trade and your passion for your work. Cheers MiracleMAX 😉😁

The insurance requirements in most states are none; however, if you intend on working with vehicles in which the average cost for parts exceedes what you are comfortable paying out of pocket for damages then you should mpst definitely get a ln insurance package that would cover said costs. In consumer repairs you will typically find that most errors you make will be corrected by yourself and from your pocket. That being said most damages that warrant insurance claim will typically be the cost of your insurance premium .... but having insurance will save you always.

Faye, totally awesome that you are a mechanic. When I was in college in the north east I started doing mobile mechanic work, because I loved working on cars. Not having great tools, the freezing winters, and butt kicking rust on every nut and bolt was too much of a challenge for me to earn enough to make it worthwhile. I still have a passion for wrenching on vehicles. 25 yrs later, I now have great tools and live in the no-rust south west so I am spoiled. Some days I think about ditching my engineering profession to open a shop to help people. I wish more women followed your path to become auto techs. I hope your subscriber list grows exponentially and you can start monetizing your videos to help supplement your income. If anyone reads this, please subscribe to help Faye become rich and Fayemous on youtube.

Hi Faye, A tip for your rabbit trans removal video. That trans you took out was probably a close ratio 5 speed made pre 87. 1984 to 86 trans VW removed a circlip from the main pinion shaft to save a penny. They found out by doing this the pinion shaft would move and caused the fifth gear to fall off and the pinion shaft would self destruct the case like yours. So find a used 87 close ratio trans. A VW Bentley MK1 manual and in the trans section you can see a chart for the number on the bottom of the trans for what year it was made. I found a 97 trans from a 89 cabriolet. Good luck!

Ok, I'm a traveling marine mechanic. After watching your video here, I'm encouraged that I'm on the right path - I have the same outlook about business that you do, which is not always understood by other business owners. Thanks for the video. If you ever decide to become a marine mechanic, I have work for you! It's not all engines... You touch on a key point - talking to your customers. Treating them like people. Explaining. I really like the idea of classes. Most boat owners haven't a clue how things work. Some don't actually care as long as they do work. I happened upon your videos looking into timing belt changes for my Tacoma, which, as it turns out, doesn't have one (it's got a chain), but stayed for the general interest in your repairs. (In case I give up on-the-water work...) Once again, thanks!

Terje Oseberg But working with n the ground compared to a nice rack sucks. I know!!! So you’re also limited on some of the things you can do. Which may be a good thing. You have to bring all your heavy tools everywhere you go. Wear and tear on a truck and the gas. Even all that, still ok. My issue would be the customer hovering all over me making trying to focus and do the job harder.

Great motivating ideas! Thank you. And I love your own personality that isn't the linear plotted out type video plans, but more so the off the cuff sporadic thought process that becomes the video I just enjoyed so much. You are truly a gem and an angel of a person! If I weren't 300 miles away, I'd most definitely be requesting your services. I need some serious help with my Toy Taco that is in as many different pieces as possible currently in my garage... Replacing my head gasket has become more possible thanks to your videos though!! Thanks for all the information that you and Danny have made available through your channel. I am still working and watching in an effort to get my truck rolling again Soon?!! If you ever do make end up mechanic-ING in my area or just decide you want to come to Lubbock, TX, I could be the luckiest person in the world to meet the Silkie Supra Lady Mechanic fanatic. I LOOOVe YOU keep it up!!

You are a perfect example "that if you love what you do you will never have to work a day in your life". It is to bad they don't teach that in school.

@@bryan1956 It worked for me for 30 years. The long hours were not always easy but it was very satisfying and I built great word of mouth. The money was very good also. imagine hating go to work. I was a commercial photographer and everyday was a challenge and it was fun to work with a great crew.

Hello Faye, your channel came up as I just got a Lexus ES 350 and thought ok this gal is unique looking and has a Toyota shirt😉. As I watched a few of your videos I realized quickly Faye knows her stuff. You are unique but above all your attributes it is easy to see you are extremely smart, I suspect you have a very high IQ. So keep your bright outlook in life and you will go far. My 2007 Lexus ES 350 is a very nice care but as I dig into the care on this car I see it is not plug and play maintenance. But I will do most of it myself. Anyway Faye love your videos and stay just the way you are😜 Spokane WA Michael

I used to advertise through Craigslist, but now get plenty of work through word of mouth- regular customers and their referrals. I work part time as a mechanic for a large carpet cleaning company. I repair and maintain both their fleet of late model Nissan vans and also the cleaning units. Knowledge of carpet cleaning units(called truckmounts) is a very hard skill to come by, as there are no schools. It's a valuable skill to have. My point: At some point, you may want to specialize.

Women working on cars is still RARE. I would love to see more women working on their cars, I'm even trying to devise ways (sneakily) of getting my wife interested in cars... Faye's approachable positive outlook is probably what's gonna do it so maybe I'll slip in one of her videos on wife's phone. Har har...

Congratulations on getting to where you are today! I also provide a mobile service in the healthcare field and started for similar reasons to your own. I work on my 2002 car for fun and to save money. Question for you: how do you have the tools and equipment you need for your services? I'd imagine it's hard to access certain parts without a hoist or space in a parking lot or someone's driveway. Thanks for the inspiration, keep up the good work!

I have a question. Have you ever done a job while being a mobile mechanic where you encounter a problem or issue that is just too difficult? Like rusty broken bolts or a foreign car with hard to find parts or a hard to diagnose problem, and what do you do to solve it?
