Question how can you minimize the scarring?
@caraabbott47258 ай бұрын
1. Maintain good hygiene: •Showering daily •Using noncomedogenic soaps and body washes. Even avoiding shampoos and conditioner that are aggravating • Using products that help HS like apple cider vinegar and short term antimicroberial soaps antibacterial soaps( like Detol, PanOxyl and Hibiclens) •Avoid triggers 2. Outside tips: •Oil mixtures( get that tea tree but make sure to dillute it with another oil!) Use it twice a day. Eucalyptus, lemon, lavender, and neem oil are also good. •Removal of hair helps with flare ups. But never ever remove hair during a flare up. Waxing is good or even a light trim •Warm compress for pain( use dr sources of heat like a heating pad) •Keep HS areas dry because it help bumps to dry out and heal faster •Turmeric( if ya know ya know) Glo Melanin is a good company with tumeric products •Aloe vera for cooling affected areas (cover it with gauze for a some time to heal) • Hydro colliod patch 3. Diet: •Elimination diet ( sugar, yeast, dairy, and just plain junk food can be a trigger) •Foods that help should have high fiber, omega‐3, fatty acids, and anti-inflammatory foods like beans, lentils, couscous, veggies, salmon, flax seeds and avocado. •Zinc in diet and supplements ( avocado, leach, blackberry, olives, banana, chia seeds, almonds, etc) •Tumeric is good as well 4. Other: •Weight gain and Obesity is linked to HS •Medical treatment may be necessary • Talk to doctor

I love when you dig into this topic because it was only after I watched one of your videos a few years ago that I realized that I had HS. My gyno years later told me that it was folliculitis, but I knew that wasn't right. For me, my issues started back in 2006. This part here is about to be TMI, but I'm going to be real. I had the pustules form on top of my vulva. I was so hurt and embarrassed. I didn't know what was going on. I was never really sexually active at the time and these boils or bumps were so painful. They were filled with pus and this lasted for a time on and off. I still didn't understand what was happening and I was too ashamed at that time to seek medical help. I just lived with it and the flare-ups. Then one day they stopped, however, I started getting painful bumps under my skin by the bend of my legs and buttocks. Consistently, I kept having flare-ups there. I decided to go on an elimination diet, and it was eye-opening. I traced my issue back to nightshades. They are a food group consisting of your tomatoes, white potatoes, eggplants, peppers. Also, okra. And around my cycles, I want salty foods, namely potato chips. When I get flare-ups, they usually last a month on my body. I had two small bags of potato chips just before my cycle last month, and you guessed it. I ended up with flare-up. I should have known better to be honest. In the past I have used Hibiclens. It is an excellent antiseptic for the body. I also use a cream by a company called DERMA-E. It's a tea tree and vitamin E cream. It's excellent at mitigating the pain and promoting healing. I use tea tree with coconut oil, also my turmeric, but it stains, so I don't do that one as much. Dr. Nina for always keeping it real and sharing your experiences with your viewers. I appreciate you!

You're such a beautiful and sweet & loving soul! I am Caucasian and still have the same issues. I have been abstinant for over 22 years. I kinda gave up on taking care of myself. A few months ago I almost died. Was rushed to hospital and put directly into ICU. 10 days later I was put into Cardiac Care for a few weeks. The nurse had to shave me, EVERYWHERE!!! The heart cath called for it. My nurse and I laughed about it. I told her that I hadn't seen that part of me in over 22 years! As she shaved me COMPLETELY!😆 She said, with her leg hiked up, "Honey, I check that every day!" ! 😆 Anyway, after such a tragic loss years ago I just gave up on me, on treating myself with respect, grooming myself! I appreciate you taking the time to share such intimate and personal things with us! You are such a sweetheart!❤🙏😘

The Internet, especially you tube contains a wealth of information. The kind of stuff traditional doctors blow off, but REALLY works. In many cases the medicines and surgeries they recommend aren’t needed and only make things worse. You have nothing to lose by trying these remedies.

I don’t know if I have HS, but I saw someone online say they started taking Zinc Gluconate, and that was a game changer for me. I barely get boils anymore, and if they do start to come up they don’t come all the way and start to go away before I even realize it’s there. I also think cutting sugar and most carbs have helped, but I was doing keto before starting the zinc pills and the zinc pills made the bigger difference.

I'm about to cry as I write this.. THANK YOU so much Dr. Nina for this important work you're doing! I've had HS for 20+ years now, it started in my early 20s. Initially I was misdiagnosed and over the years and as I rode the waves of flares I felt so alone. Only internet community - in my case Reddit - let me know that I wasn't and showed me how under and misdiagnosed this illness is, and how it impacts our communities! Your video reminded me of how tough that was, and it looks like we were doing the same things at the same time - focusing on hygiene, using elimination dieting to isolate trigger foods and compounds (for me it was nightshade veggies!!), the miracle of melaleuca and how to apply for treatment and prevention, use of turmeric for anti-inflammation (I like and use the gummies combined w ginger and curcumin... MIRACULOUS), and even finding the right hair removal techniques to not aggravate and trigger the areas, which are for me primarily my armpits, groin, and once or twice my chest between my breasts). Praise God for how far we've come, and I am so happy to see this video and what you're doing - I picked up a few pointers and have some great ideas of things still to try, although my flares have been mostly under control for years. I've subscribed and will share! Congrats on your pregnancy and many, many blessings to you and your family.

Absolutely, you were referred to me by one of my friends who I confided in about a boil one of the many times I’ve had it. I self diagnosed bc of your videos! I’ve gotten better and more vigilant about how and what I am doing both inside and on the outside of my body. So, for that, my deepest gratitude! I find staying away from gluten (as much as possible) has helped, and I incorporated turmeric not just on my body, (soaps and oil) but with cooking and drinking it within my herbal tea too! I swear by Lumè too!!Thankfully during my 1st pregnancy I was boil free which I hadn’t experienced that EVER, I mean skin on clear💯🙌🏽. I have since referred anyone whose been referred to me, to your vids. Very informative not just with HS, which I just got officially diagnosed with last year, but black girl magic as well!! I’ve been a fan for about 9 years! You’ve added so much value to my life🙏🏽 (sorry for the long post)

I now know in hindsight that my HS started in my mid 30’s. I wasn’t formally diagnosed until I was about 50, when out of frustration I sought the advice of a well-respected black physician in my area (who is also one of only a literal handful of black physicians in my area). At that time I was having HS flares in my armpits. He took one look and casually said, “Oh, that’s HS!” and broke it down to me. Like most others of us, no one I sought help from previously understood this condition. I was also told that it was ingrown hairs, and all the things that you have also heard. There is now a Dermatologist in my area who lists HS as one of her specialties. Thanks for this information. I cosign on the tea tree oil, which I use without a carrier oil. Also CeraVe 4% acne wash (even for the groin area). I believe that weight and a diet high in sugar contribute to HS, but that’s just my lay person opinion.

Hi! First off I want to say congratulations to your new bundle of joy on the way! I'm so happy you made an updated video on H.S. Here is my story that I'll try to make short. I've had H.S. for years before getting diagnosed in 2021 by a dermatologist. Things became really bad for me in 2020 I think the stress of Covid. I went to my urgent care almost a few times every month most of 2020. My armpits seem to be the areas that flare-up the most. They eventually referred me to see a dermatologist in 2021. She is amazing! I recently had to go to urgent care as I had 2 very large boils under my armpits a week ago that needed to be opened and I couldn't get a earlier appointment with her. I'm still healing from the I&D. I also use Hibiclens, tea tree oil, lavender oil helps me too along with an antibiotic ointment that's prescribed. What also helps me us putting honey on the flares when they're healing with the bandages you mentioned. I know genetics plays a role in my diagnosis. Most of the females on my mom's side have H.S. Even my baby cousin started having them at 14, the same age as me and she's thinnier and healthier than me! I want to also thank you for being the first African American woman I found to speak about this condition and not be afraid to show how it affects the lives of people who suffer from this condition. It not only hurts us physically from the pain, embarrassment and scaring, but also emotionally and mentally. Us H.S. warriors need to stick together and unite 🙌

I was always a skinny chick, but I was in an accident where someone ran the red light and t-boned the car. My husband and I had cracked spines and when we got out of the hospital, doc prescribed meds that were steroids and by the time I was up and about again, I gained a ton of weight. Nothing fit. My husband stayed skinny, but I went from a size 9 in jeans to a size 13/14. With the weight gain, came regular flare ups of HS, which I never had before. I endured this for a few years until I really put in the effort to lose the weight this past year and a half. I'm 40 lbs lighter and I haven't had a flare up in nearly a year. Did a lot of blood work to find out what my body was low in or too high on and I worked to correct that as well. I also make sure I hit my goal of 10k+ steps at least 5 days a week and strength train 3 days a week.

Well hello beautiful, I'm 42 years old and have had HS for over 30 years and Dial soap is my go to but i have been looking for another Antibacterial and anti macromio soap to help me. This was so informative. You really put a smile on my face. I had twins at 30 and was Diagnose with HS after having it for 12 years no Dr knew what it was until i went to a black OBGY Dr that knew ugh. I have had 13 surgeries in 12 years. They helped in the areas that it was cut out but i still have one place that i refused to get surgery on after almost losing my life from the past surgeries. Thank you so much love I'm much better now and have it under control just needed a better wash to help with the flair ups and smell that i get some time. 💜💫

Yassss! I was hoping you would say something about the essential oils... I used Eucalyptus on my va jay jay due to an affection and OMG, it itches like crazy but when I saw that thing draining and going away....I started to do a praise dance!!!... Yes, tea tree oil is bomb too. Forget that Boil Ease, it may work for others but did not work for me.

I put Manuka honey on a bandage and apply it to the affected area. I prefer to make my own instead of buying the premade bandages from the store. I ve used Manuka honey for acne and acne scarring for years and it has helped a lot with HS. It takes time but has helped me.

Yes, when I lost weight my symptoms disappeared. Also, drink asorosi (I’m not sure how to say it in English) tea. It’s very bitter but it cleans your blood.

Sending you a big hug!! Just for piece of mind, I know both of my parents and I'm the only one that has it... I know your pain, at one point, I had five at one time all in the crack(auxillary) and I will never forget that flare. Couple of months later, i became a pescatarian for 8 years. I never had a flare up ever again until I began eating meat and dairy again to increase pregnancy odds, which it did. Since having my son, 2 yrs, I've had 4 flare-ups. Im still eating meat and dairy but not for much longer.

I have HS. When I was pregnant they completely went away but of course following giving birth they come back. I got on birth control, and for some reason, they are gone again. At a certain point of the month, I will get a few, but I will take that over how it was before ❤ I'm also happy for this revelation that birth control helped because that really gave me a huge clue that this is a hormonal issue. I also have PCOS and endometriosis, these things have got to be related
