This made me cry. I so needed to hear this right now. I'm older than you but I haven't mastered this wisdom yet. I'm in a happy relationship right now but I overanalyze every word he says and then let my imagination run wild catastrophizing and imagining troubles where there are none. I spend so much time in this world where I imagine bad things are going to happen and it's made me develop anxiety disorder. I should make myself watch/listen to this video every couple of weeks until it sinks in and I start to live it.

Thank you Anna for sharing. Recognizing that we all have our own paths in life and that those paths can be rough at times can help anyone. I have Lupus and at the age of 33 I had a stroke. I could not walk, speak or even write my own name. I went from being a teacher and mother of three one day to what felt like a helpless kitten. In that situation I could have just wallowed in self pity or get up and work on getting better. Ones outlook can make all the difference.

I believe as everyone gets older with time and life events, they learn it’s more important to focus on what makes you happy and enjoy life. You can’t please everyone and that’s just life. Your content is always great! With time more people will notice and relate. I total agree with you. At the end of the day we end up in the same place. Hopefully more people will change, spread love not hate! The new hair color looks great on you! Enjoy it while it last before August! Looking forward to another great video.

Being stoic works to a certain level! I agree and disagree! It’s also not good to be neutral, if that person hurts you, you have to confront that person and not just be like oh well moving on! But I get what you’re saying

I will only confront them if there's something to gain out of it, like if I really care about the relationship with that person. If that's not the case, I'd rather not waste my time/energy and just walk away.

Hello Anna! I watched and left a message in the other video you were referring to and I watched it with my teenager a few days ago. She did not try to watch it at 2x speed and actually laughed at many parts. Yup, it was definitely a lot more interesting and palatable to her than my constant "yapping" (her words). Thank you for this one too; I will find a good time and watch it with her too. (I practise stoicism too and have been trying, with no results, to get her to see the merits in making positive adjustments to her mindset.)

This is a great video Anna! Please make more like this. We need to spread more love in this world. I always tell myself and others that we HAVE emotions but they shouldn’t have us. My problem as an INFP is overthinking. I feel like I have to overthink things to make sure I have the best possible outcome in any given situation. But in the end everything works out. Maybe that’s a control mechanism. I will definitely watch this video multiple times.

Absolutely spot on in what you said .. I too went through major growth from introvert, hard done by, poor me, screw the world, gods a fake. And now many years later a 360 turn around, following and consciously practicing being, now I'm a very very happy human being. The greatest test was always ego and to get it under control I use to visualise it as a gremlin and tell it that I didn't want it to be part of my life today and to get on my shoulder and not interrupt. I would thank it and tell it to scram. If I was aware that ego popped up again, it was back to the shoulder with you and not come unless I allow you to. For me being present and consciously aware of everything that you spoke about helped in training myself from taking back control from ego. Now when I have my unconscious human moments I have the ability to instantly within 1 minute get out of and over what we have been endowed with as 😊being humans who are finding that we are spirits having a human experience.. and howwww.. I like many of your chats being interested in how we are all so diverse.. Love it..thank you and appreciate the Love and light we all share.

I really don’t know what the rest of your content is like, but I subscribed because of this video. 90% of this video is a description of my life. And I have a channel (for 6 years now) that’s built around the 4 virtues and being heroic. However, you should know that Stoicism has rational flaws that make it ultimately untenable. Try reading Augustine of Hippo’s “De civitate dei” Book 19 section 4 (and there around). He gives a 1600 year old criticism of stoicism, and offers a better solution that is even more logical and rational (and later improved on by Thomas Aquinas (a master of logic that rivals, if not surpasses, Aristotle, the progenitor of logic) in the 1200's.) Also, I like your fork microphone.

I like what you said but if I could just add another thing which I think is important, is that yes we should move on and try to not wallow in every emotion or high experience (negative or positive) I also think it’s important to reflect and try your best to gain something even from the shitty parts of life even if it a lesson. That’s why if wallowing is done as a way of self reflection it can be a part of the growth mindset.😊

Other than things in life like school graduations, marriage, birth of your child, or the death of a family member/close friend impacting my emotions for extended periods of time there were two other experiences in life that I wasted too much emotional energy on. They were disappointment and hate. The first one was easy after I realized that human long term memory works tends to recall the good memories with positive emotion and the bad ones just as events, with little or no emotion. The 2nd, Hate (only the kind associated with a visceral reaction) was associated with interacting with other people. I had the good fortune of having two encounters with people that after my initial encounter, associated with an argument, I felt that I hated them. Sometime later during subsequent encounters I got to know the other person and their circumstance, and they got to know me I realized being hateful was ridiculous. After the same experience with the second individual, I had time to reflect and realize that it was crazy to ever feel hate toward another person. I was fortunate enough to have had these two encounters, most people will never have one.

Hmmm, I was thinking again about the content of this video. There are a lot of good points here and I have been thinking about something that comes to mind from it. Is Stoicism a starting point or an end result ? If it's an end result, is it something you can prepare for ? Using sport as an example, I think it can be both. Experience can be used to build control n resilience which can then serve as a basis for how we deal with next experience. Kobe Bryant was a great example. He entered the NBA with a bang, won 3 rings, but then faced public humiliation in 2004 n NBA finals losses in 04 n 08. My Celtics Whooped his ass in 08 and you could see it grinded at him. One the loss and two against us. Having experienced victory in 00,01 n 02 he had the experience and know how of what it took to win, and was a part of Team USAs Redeem Team at the 08 Olympics. I feel he used this, particularly against us in 2010, to win his 5th ring. Stoicism can be good for understanding what went before us so we can learn from and hopefully better ourselves.

Hello, my family and I are going to visit SK for the first time in about a month and we are all Indians. I was wondering how often foreigners, coloured people especially, would be given racist remarks to or any discrimination, and the intensity of it. I'm quite aware of customs and standards in SK so honestly I'm a bit worried about might happen, like being refused a bus or "side-eyed".
