if you speak another language and are willing to subtitle this video, please do it there amara.org/en/videos/xPaMIxZL92bG/info/wwwyoutubecomwatchvkich_d6thqk/ thank you. the ted talk at the start of this video may be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn-WZXmEl7R-jsU i'd also like to mention that this is a supportive community, regardless of how long you study/how hard you study, at the end of it we're all students and here to learn. I ask that you refrain from toxic productivity in this chat as we try to encourage each other to do better, thank you.

Studying consistently for even one or 2 hours throughout a year is something most of us cannot keep up with, and this guy spent almost half of a year studying.

Good for you or any other people that found that "thing" in life. I think myself as a good kid and "friend" or person. I've lived more than 25 years doing good thing, maybe not grand or super good, but I try my best to not disappoint. and yet here I am keep getting disappointed and disappointed. not saying hard work won't be rewarded, but I just to say life sucks, which means not every hard work get rewarded, not every good intention results in good thing happening. You need to know when you need to cut off some people, you need to know when you need to put everything, know when not to pursue some stuff. It is hard, it's not as easy as reading any book or doing daily good habits, it's a culmination of many complicated stuff which I probably say no one can explain in detail everything, which is why everything usually oversimplified to several bullet points, some encouraging speech and stuff. but it's still all won't be enough

I’m currently prepping for what’s supposedly the “world’s toughest exam” and while I’m usually motivated to at least study for 10 hours a day, these past few days have been the worst few days of my life. While my parents are extremely supportive, mentally and physically, I feel I’m at the lowest point of my life. Long story short, the sheer anxiety and pressure of competitive exams, the fact that I’m gonna be 24 in the next few days while half the people I know in life are doing exceedingly well made me have a massive emotional meltdown at the dinner table. My parents are well, your typical Asian parents, yes they are supportive but they equally blamed me for loosing my shit because you know “no one forced anything on me and taking up this exam was my own personal choice”. I get where they are coming from but let’s just say the entire episode made me loose track of at least 2-3 days of my study routine. After those horrible days of tears and guilt about not having studied at all, my parents and me talked things through and we reconciled. Now comes the second part of this doom show past 10 days - I caught on a massive viral infection. The day I decided to resume my routine, that very day I came down with a 102 fever, immense body pain, headache, sinusitis and chest congestion. I decided to take things easy first, took meds, visited the doctor and just slept for the first 2 days. But let’s just say it’s been close to 6 days now and I feel no better. My drive to study is lost and I spent the last few days doom scrolling on KZbin watching vlogs of people studying for the same exam as me and feeling more guilt over everything that’s happening. But you know what James, thank you. These past 10 days have been nothing but horrible for me but listening to you made me feel somewhat at ease. Listening to you emphasise on the drive to do something turned a light switch in my head and made me see things over and above the self imposed guilt cave I made for myself. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow but I don’t think I’m giving up just yet. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this video James! Edit: So it's been seven months since I wrote this comment, my exam is scheduled to take place in less than 40 days and I would like to thank all of you who wished me luck. These past few months have been tough but I've being doing my best to remain consistent and keep my head above murky waters and to remember to just slow down and breathe sometimes. All was going good but a fortnight back I was hit with the terrible news that my grandfather passed away. He was very dear to me and one of the lead cheerers in my life and just a day before he passed away he had asked me to work very hard and diligently for the final leg of this exam. What's worse is that he had told me he wants to see me passing it but due to suddenness of it all, it ended up remaining his last wish. It took me a full 10 days to process what ended up happening and I would say, now I'm somewhat back on track. My family distributed amongst ourselves his personal items and each person chose an item that reminds them the most of him and I decided to keep his watch. It remains on my study table as I write this comment and it will also remain with me when I sit for my exam and for my entire remaining life. While I was devastated with what happened, I'm now even more motivated than ever to fulfil my grandfather's last wish. I will try and update what ends up happening and I wish that anyone who's going through a tough time remains strong and gets through to achieve their end goals. As my grandfather said, never give up!

As a therapist I can only recommend to change your posture every couple minutes, so you stay somewhat in motion
@brindhan
@brindhan 3 жыл бұрын
I have this concern too. Recently, I found that sitting in the same posture and studying for hours, every day, is not a healthy thing. But I have to study for so long and so hard like that to achieve my dream. Since you said you are a therapist, could you suggest some ways to study for a long time without affecting my health? Also, is it okay to walk and study at the same time, I mean, like reading a book while walking?
@le_jiggy_garcon
@le_jiggy_garcon 3 жыл бұрын
@@brindhan I would suggest to just stand up while reading, walking could maybe a little distracting, but you can try this too. Try to change the position of your legs every 10-20 minutes (like sitting on your feet, putting them under the chair, put just one leg up, sit on one leg etc etc) because your spine will automatically move with your legs and pelvis. Also change where you sit on the chair (sit on the edge straight, or slouch a little leaning back). If you have and gaming chair, or office chair, just spin it. As you might see, the point is, not sit straight, but to playfully change your position in everyway possible. Maybe consider to buy equipment, which holds your books, tablet or monitor, so you don't have to look down all the time. Also pezziballs are very good for you, you could sometimes sit on them instead of a chair. At last I can only suggest to start workout your core, if you don't want to lift weights, becaus it gives your the strength to sit longer without pain. At least mobilize your spine every couple hours, by crossing your arm above your chest, so your left hand touches your right shoulder and the right hand the left should. Then slowly move your arms as far as possible up and down for like a minute, so you flex and extend the spine (also move your head!!). After this you can do big circles with your elbows (still crossed arms), so you have rotation, lateral flexion and extension and flexion. Laying on the ground, or over the ball (or a rolled up blanket) can help you to relax your muscles and stretch them. Hope it will help you, I would be really interested what the results are :)

Even if you won't be able to achieve the things you dream of at the size you imagined, you should be proud of yourself just for being able to reach this level of maturity at this age. The important thing is not to go through difficulties, but to come out of them stronger. In addition, I find very beneficial that you explain the difference between motivation and drive, and especially by referring to self improvement books. The meaning of life is our relationship with God. These four steps are the key to getting a Divine Revelation directly from him. They are something you'd eventually do if you took God seriously enough to read the Bible, while implementing its teachings. They are, forgive your parents, break down before Jesus, ask for forgiveness, and read three books of the Bible. Step four requires the first book of each testament, and one you chose yourself. The order is actually important. The steps build on each other. Each one primes your soul for the next. To be forgiven we must forgive. Mathew 6: 14-15. That's why forgiving others has to come before asking for forgiveness. Jesus will not forgive you until you've at least done the bare minimum, our parents. They're supposed to be easiest to forgive, because they've fed, housed, loved us to some degree. Our problems with them are supposed to represent our problems with God. This is why the bare minimum to receive the revelation is our parents. You'll still have to forgive everyone though, but that comes much easier after meeting God. I'm extremely serious and very literal. I'm not talking about signs, nor feelings, nor prayer. It's an actual literal pulled out of your body direct one on one conversation, nothing you can miss. nor misinterpretae. The vast majority of christans never bother to do what God wants seriously, so most never get this revelation. To most outside church their Bible is a paper weight, or at best a virtue signal. Their religion is in what other people think about them, not their relationship with God. Please do those steps I mentioned, there really is a Divine Revelation waiting for all of us. There's extraordinarlly important information we all desperately need in this revelation, but those who get it are forbidden to share it. The Truth that Jesus Christ is Lord is written on every human heart. We all have that knowledge inside us, but we bury it under mountains of pain and anger. Those steps clear away that garbage inside you, letting God heal you, so that his words boom clearly inside your soul. The entire point of our existence here is to Trust God enough that we pay him this mustard seed of Faith, so his Grace can remove the stain sin has left on our souls. Everyone that does not get this Grace is not forgiven of any of their sins, even if they turned around and we're the best person from 25 to death. Without Grace those first sins are still counted against you, tying you to the devil's punishment. It's not about being a good person, It's about being forgiven for when you weren't. The Bible is Truth. Please do those steps and see for yourself. Please take your salvation seriously.,,

There were 6 lessons, turkish, revolution history, religious culture and english for verbal; math and science for numerical. NOTHING was in the exam that I studied for turkish, nothing. I would have done history in the exam if I didn't studied too. In science, I think it was good but they asked very difficult in math. There are 20 questions and they wrote one question for every page. One question was a different version of a question which was in the university exam. They asked one high school subject too. I wish I didn't prepared that much for this exam. I didn't deserve this result even I studied for 10 months. I am only 14 but I feel older. Geography is destiny. Thank you for reading.

I see people in the comments romanticizing studying half a day, but it really isn't as easy as you think. As he said, the quality needs to be high too. I think studying 12 hours a day or taking up a significant portion of your day isn't healthy and realistic for most people. You'll probably have low sleep, no time for hobbies or skill development, burnout, mood swings, you may even lose friends. He literally said not to push yourself too hard, just because he can do it doesn't mean everyone can and its not fun. You need to take care of your health and ensure quality over quantity of studying. The amount of time you study for isn't equivalent to your success or value. Effort doesn't always breed success. Listen to what he says, dude.

Yeah, 12 hours a day is overkill. It isn’t even half the day cause you have to sleep. Studying that amount of time would surely just mean you’re not studying WELL cause you can’t concentrate for that long. Why not find better ways to remember things, like visual stimuli, explaining to others etc. And the 3:30 am video? I can’t, I thought that was a parody!!!

@@jamesmayle4712 First, thanks James for sharing this, it takes some courage to do so. A lot of people shy away from their faith and when confronted, they deny Jesus Christ and claim that they are agnostic believing in a higher "Presence" or "Source", or something along those lines but calling Christianity a religion. I know I didn't believe in God at first, then I did believe in a Creator but not any religions or any other ideas. And it might have stayed that way if I didn't encounter GOD in my life. I remember two specific times where I undoubtedly knew it was GOD although I've felt the presence of GOD a few times. The sad thing is that those encounters start to fade in your memory as time passes by so your faith waivers sometimes due to uncertainty but it's at those times where you need to reconcile with Christ and evaluate your life from eternal perspective. I want to add a few things to your comment so it doesn't seem misplaced in comments of this video. First forgiveness. Forgiveness is important for many reasons than just one. It allows you to be forgiven as you forgive others because you get the same forgiveness from GOD freely just by asking for it. You obviously don't ask GOD for forgiveness when you know in the back of your mind you will continue doing that unrighteous/sinful act. You ask for forgiveness when you are ready to repent-(Repentance doesn't just mean that you regret your actions, but that you will never walk in that direction again, [Like a 180 turn]). This is easier said than done in real life and I definitely struggled with this in my experience but also realized a valuable lesson from it. That lesson being that GOD knows all your past, present and future including your thoughts, feeling and circumstances so you can't hide anything from Him lie to Him but only to yourself. (I'm sure you can understand this concept and it feels like something a 5 year old could know, but realizing the truth of it your life is very different). One way to make it easier to forgive others is to look for their heart, understand the why of their action and not the deed itself. (Also remind yourself of all the things GOD has forgiven you for this will help you forgive others easier.) Judgement. The measure you use to judge other will be the same measure Christ will judge you. In Romans it's made known to us that GOD/Father doesn't judge people, he has given that authority to Christ. Christ is the judge of the living and the dead, so remember next time that you try to judge someone that you will be judged in the same measure (which wouldn't be "cute" to put it lightly). [To under why the universal laws are this way and also why the world is made this way out of all the possibilities read Romans] This is also important for Christians to remember because they have forgotten or misunderstood some of the things regarding the Law which causes them to be judgemental. Remember that you're not trying to prove anything to anyone if you really are a Christian-[meaning a disciple of Jesus]. Christ doesn't care about what arguments you win for His name, nor does He want us to. Instead of making good arguments we are supposed to share the love GOD shares with us and promote righteousness through our deeds. I don't think anyone ever succeeded proving a point by outarguing the other person, it's a waste of time. Also anyone can talk the talk, but living a life where when others look, they can see the work of GOD in your life will truly bring others salvation. That's something that can't be imitated because the change will show in your character, you will feel like a new person like you have been reborn. No one can be righteous in this world, Not One, -Romans. (We can dedicate the whole world to prove GOD wrong by raising one child to be righteous and not break any commandments and we would fail miserably because that child will fail no matter the amount provisions and the preparedness we have). So we can only be made righteous when we have faith in Jesus Christ. That's the ONLY way. (Read Romans to understand why "Faith" and the reason for Christ's sacrifice and you'll get all the answers of any questions that challenges your Belief and Faith). Lastly, remember humility and the fear of GOD. Those who are humble will be exalted and those who boast will be humbled (This isn't just a verse from the bible, life experience proves the truth of this verse). This is what Jesus means when he says Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. I'll leave a verse here from the bible which nicely summarizes all these points made here: Micah 6:8 [|"He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?"|] (Read that verse word for word and use that as a standard to compare your life) All these things mentioned here will be easy to do if you are selfless person who doesn't focus on himself/herself every second. But the reality is we're selfish. We have desires and ambitions outside of our basic needs which leads us to focus on gain and other material things that can subconsciously serve as trophies for our achievements and success. You have the free will to do anything but remember that the ends don't justify the means. GOD doesn't have a problem with your ends, the concern is the state of your heart (your motives, "the means"). This is why the commandments exist, because they help you to live a free life not to constrain you. If you sin your sins will eventually entrap you and make you a slave, causing you to do things that are out of your control (like an addiction). Talk about a loss of free will; kind of ironic. Remember sin is what ultimately results to death. It's like a seed where its fruit is death. I think it's mentioned in the gospel of James that whoever knows knows the right thing to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them. That's why doing the right thing always matters regardless of the consequences you think it might bring (Motives show the character). But remember when you truly encounter GOD, which you will if you truly seek Him, that's when you'll transform (like a paradigm shift) and become more selfless, leading you to treasure eternal things, not material things. Once you begin having a relationship with Christ and start walking with him, all your worries, anxieties and doubts will clear away which will free you to experience love, peace, joy, abundance and genuine gratitude for life. This is why even though I don't write comments on KZbin or anywhere really, I felt compelled to write all this out because I remember the hopeless dark days I used to live in and I hope this will inspire someone to set aside the distractions of this world and to pursue Jesus Christ. I used to be an unbeliever, trust me I would never think I would end up being a person to write this kind of thing but here we are. Also I'm aware of the ideas that surround atheists or agnostics of why people might turn to religions and I had/have literally no reason to do so. The idea of death never really scared me nor do I have any appeal or interest for eternal life. (The idea of eternal life still concerns me because I'm 21 and I think life is already getting too long but from the promise of Christ eternity will be beyond our imagination so there is that:). I mention this things so that you may consider the advice from here without building mental defenses to block out all the info here that might go against your current beliefs. Do what I did. Genuinely seek the Creator of the universe, and you, without any impure motives or intentions (meaning thinking of your gain/profit as the main intent for this pursuit), and I'm sure you'll encounter GOD through Lord Jesus Christ and not anything else. But keep in mind that your new transformed life after the encounter will be full of obstacles and trials. As the saying goes the Devil's greatest trick is that he convinced the world that he doesn't exist. So when you genuinely believe in Christ (meaning you could stake your life on it) you'll encounter spiritual adversaries from which you were safe before due to your unbelief. Remember that Christ already beat the devil so we're no longer bound to death or to sin but his LimiteD influence is still on you. Before we were hopeless, but now we have The Holy Spirit which lets us resist the temptations until they fade, without succumbing to sin. On your walk with Christ your faith will be tested, first by little then by much which will depend on how much you trust GOD and how much faith you have in his Word. If you do well from what little GOD gives you then He will entrust you with more. So remember that you'll never really get comfortable with your faith in GOD (it's not like a game where you get to a certain level then you fell at ease) because every time you'll have to trust GOD to an extent that you never did before which is easier said than done. Also remember that no one can prove the existence of GOD because the idea of Faith will be for not. "Faith and Fear both demand you to believe in something that you cannot see. You Choose." - Bob Proctor. We get this one short life on this planet so don't choose to live in fear because that's a prison that will keep you where you are, Stuck. The Fear of GOD however is described like fear you have of your parents, like a respectful thing, the same way we love our parents but also fear them. So this post turnout out way too long than what I initially wanted to say but I'm not gonna proofread it or edit it so if anyone read this far just remember the two most important commandments Jesus told us to keep. Love GOD with all you heart, mind and soul. And love your neighbor as yourself. To keep this commands just remember the care and effort you put in for the ones you love, so this love can translate into Action and everything you read here won't just end up as a head knowledge.

Dude, 19 years may seem like a long time, but developing your mindset at such a young age is incredible. Took me much longer, so you'll get much more out of life.

Didn't really take him 19 years either. It's not like he could think about any of this as a baby or little kid. Gotta subtract childhood, I figure :P

@@alaron5698 nah gotta subtract his entire pre-adult life so in all honesty about 17 years. These lessons are only prevalent at university level+ bc that’s what defines you future.

Over the last 19 years of my life, I've begun to understand how insignificant I am. I sit on my ass all day, browsing facebook and stuffs, while others go out and do things. I wanted to make changes in my life right now, rather than enviously watching others on how they live their life. Thank You!
