I honestly love and respect every single woman who takes this road!! And they ALL look beautiful and more sincere. I went from long dark to pixie, I've been cutting it for the past 2 months, getting rid of the fake color, and I finally have my natural color!! To my surprise it is "salt and pepper". Love it. Now, I am letting it grow. Even though I look so different because of the drastic road I chose (that's just me), I don't feel like a different person but more true to myself, authentic. I stopped interfering with my natural aging process (I am 45) and it is definitely a freeing process of authenticity and acceptance. Also a detox of decades of color products. Loving every minute of it!

I'm tired of coloring, bleaching, toner and all the rest. I'm going through the transition the natural way and will get a haircut at the six month mark. I'm 53 and have been coloring since my early 20's. I'm done with it all and just looking forward to the natural process of turning gray. For all the ladies out there going through the process I wish you luck and much happiness with your new silver look!!

It is so nice to see how God paintbrushes your hair. I think mine is beautiful after I transitioned and I had a great colorist. My hair was always professionally colored and it looked great but at some point the coloring starts aging you. The little lines on your face don’t match up with the color of someone in their 30s. I will never go back and even my stylist agrees that it was the best move ever.

If the Got2b is a semi or demi, it lays on the surface of the cuticle and doesn't enter deeply in. You can reapply it if you need to. I think taking time and working on the porosity of the hair before reapplying will help the hair receive color in a more uniform way. I agree..hanging with it to see what transpires is wise. Also, so glad you mentioned purple...the bluish ones can give green undertones when trying to cancel yellow. You helped folks miss an unwanted surprise. Different color conditioners have a different load of color in them..experimenting can turn up a favorite....if you cap with a plastic cap to trap body heat you can get a little extra conditioning and even a little more out of the color too. The Olaplex is a great addition and there are other treatments in the line you can use too. Also, coconut oil ( I buy at Grocery Outlet in the natural foods aisle)and a cap would smell fab and be a nice treat for scalp and hair. And skin too 😃

I'm 2 minutes into this video and all I can think is that I am her!! Tired of coloring my hair every 4 weeks (I'm 54). I need a change! I've been doing the curly girl method too and I'm getting bored with it. I think I'll mix it up a bit next time I visit my stylist. This year's been crappy and I want to do something fun and different just for me! Thank you for this video! You've given me the boost I needed to just go for it and accept and embrace the grace change. Age is just a number anyway!

I love it! I've been waiting for my gray to come in; it's taking forever. I get a few grays and then the roots turn brown again, and it's been going back and forth for 15 years. I discovered that my grays are curly, like corkscrew curly, and I was so excited. Now I have a few of those around my face, which I love, but I feel so impatient.

The last time I dyed my hair I think it was round the 15th of February! I have about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of growth and and it’s a nice salt and pepper color which I really like and I’ve decide to just leave it! Going to do this Gray hair thing! For now naturally but when I can I’ll check with my stylist to get her input, but definitely not going to dye it anymore! And it doesn’t look that bad since I was dyeing my hair blonde for the last 4 years so that helps! Good luck to Alissa and everyone going on the Gray Journey!

We have/had similar hair and what you are saying really resonates! People knew me for my hair but it didn't feel authentic to me anymore! I just wanted to be me, whatever that me is. I have been growing mine out since last summer and first I bleached it, so now it's half bleached blonde-ish and half grey. And I chopped a bunch off. Not a great look, but a work in progress. I like your method better! :-) Thanks for the video!

You look gorgeous and younger with the silver locks; you are rockin' it! Olaplex is a life saver when using bleach. Hair actually feels like its had a deep conditioning treatment - no breakage or "straw hair". Keep being authentic because it suits you and it's so freeing.

You look so much younger with your hair after the couple of days. Looks beautiful. I did the same thing, in letting my gray grow out. It was weaved blond and I cut it real shout. And in less than 8 months it was all natural. I know you don’t want to cut your hair. It just worked best for me. But your hair is so pretty. And I love the curls.

Congrats! I have been "natural" (grey) for 8 years, and the freedom is pretty awesome! I have tried every blue/purple shampoo and condition their is.... I finally found Aveda Blue Malvada shampoo once a week (mixed with a little bit of my regular shampoo as this shampoo is a little too dry for my dry hair) and my regular conditioner. It takes out the brassy right away to ALL hair colors and makes my hair look so bright and shiny. Good luck on your transition, you will love it....

Use pastel purple overtone. As you know, Purple cancels out yellow. Mix it with a white conditioner 1:1. Put it on dry hair. Let it sit a while. Expect it to turn purple in some of the lighter places. But it will wash out and look way less yellow and more silver/white.

Aww Alissa I love your transition wow, I agree with everything you said. I'm 51 and after many years of blonde highlights & Toners I made up my mind in 6mths ago to lets go grey. I did a DIY Cider Vinegar & Water (50/50) left on for 40mins and it did strip any toner and brassiness out of my hair so my hair looks like a bob version of yours at the end of this video. I love your hair and it makes you look much younger than the red hair. Just found you today, It's 2.30am in England but finding your video has cheered me up. New Subscriber for sure. Julie xx

It is a nice blonde. But to get silver, you must lift the level to a level 10. Putting that silver over yellow will tone the yellow, but it will never make it silver. You could go through and put highlights in, then use a level 7 grey alternating to make silver highlights and darker pepper grey lowlights which will help it all blend in well as it grows. Put the highlights heaviest where your hair is naturally silver (usually top crown) and the darker grey where it is naturally darker. Good luck! Also a good natural conditioner, shine agent for silver or light blonde hair is clear castor oil.

I am 20 months tomorrow. My best advice is to leave it alone. Let the process be what it is a process. I have another year to go before it's completely grown out. It's worth it. My skin tone and coloring looks great with the gray. Cheers!

I wonder how much your natural gray color makes. I am naturally very light blonde and a decade ago started dyeing it red. When it grows in I assumed it was blonde but at 53 I'm guessing its probably gray. My question is if silver hair also needs to be colored as in this video if naturally it isn't the beautiful white silver color we all think of when we imagine silver hair. So, I think maybe people have the wrong impression that going gray means no more coloring hair. It really is just a different color unless you luck out. I think those with black hair get the best naturally silver color (based on the men I've known in my life actually). Other colors like red and blonde start to look dusty which is also kind of nice in its own way (this is also based on observations of men's natural hair color changes Ive watched over time).

Alissa, I totally get the fact that you want to be authentic, and being sick of the whole colouring dramas, when you get into the fifties. I feel the same way, since I’m 55 now. However you have a very, very youthful face, and your lovely warm colours on beautiful curly hair, look absolutely fantastic to me. Just Awesome ! You totally rock the colour you already have been using, and could even go brighter into the reds. I think you should give yourself another decade of colouring the roots, before thinking about going grey, and then see how you feel. I feel a bland Grey colour will just serve to make you look washed out, and detract from your natural beauty. I mean You, yes You, have such bright, smooth skin that most 30 year olds would kill for ! Honestly, you really don’t look like a fifty-something lady. Just milk it it for all it’s worth, woman ! LoL. Even a nice shade of blonde would look great for you... actually, the 7.25 mark looked pretty good to me, with maybe a few adjustments. I’m guessing you want to dye your hair grey, and then just let your natural greys come through until it all matches up ? I’m worried that you won’t like the look of your natural greys, compared to the results you get from dying it grey, and you’ll have to keep dying the roots anyway... along with fiddle farting around with purple stuff and other products to keep it looking good etc etc. And.... as for the feeling authentic problem, i do get that, but I don’t think it has to mean all of us fifty year olds rush out and dye our hair grey. What we do with our hair, has to be taken on a case by case basis. Yes, grey hair looks great on some ladies. But if you’re a fifty year old who happens to look more like a forty year old, why ruin everything and make yourself look any older than you have to ?? You were born to be a red head 💃🕺 Sorry.... I’m just crying my eyes out here, with disappointment lol ... whatever you do, good luck to you ! You’ll still be beautiful ♥️

Natural is beautiful, and I can't understand why you went through the trouble of bleaching and then you go and throw another dye on your hair? Hopefully, it is just a rinse or a temporary color? There are many temporary colors to use while getting to your natural grey. Shades E Q is a temp. and has many colors. Just keep trimming your hair, Enjoy♥

I had the last of my colour cut out a few weeks ago so now almost sure silver, and naturally quite curly. This morning a complete stranger stopped me in the supermarket to tell me how amazing my hair looks!! Just shows you it's worth it.

Hi, thank you for sharing your story. I am 75 and when I turned 70, that was my time to stop with coloring. As I did not have the patience to go through the growing out stage, I had my hairdresser bleach my hair as light as possible. At that time I had about an inch of gray showing and she took the bleach just up to that mark. Then I took a product called Manic Panic, Blue Steel, which is a toner and brushed it all, over. Then left on for 45 minutes. Then washed it out with cold water and behold.....my whole head was a silver gray with my own natural gray. As my hair grew out everything just blended together! Isn’t is funny that when we make a decision to change something, a job, a location etc....the first sentence that runs through our mind is “why didn’t I do this sooner!” The best of everything as you go forward on your journey!

Same here! I haven't colored my hair since March 2020. I'll continue to grow it out but I had to do something about the dull white color so I got "Overtone Vibrant Silver" to tone the white to a silver. I LOVE IT! It's not permanent but it shimmers in the light. :-)

Covid causing salons to close really helped me to finally let my natural hair come in and now 3 mos in am too am excited to see what it looks like. I already feel much more free and the feeling I have of not having to color every two weeks is great. I am toying with the idea of lighting my dyed hair a couple of shade then cutting it to my shoulders to lessen the demarcation line but who knows. Keep going, I am sure it will look great.

You’re gonna LOVE the color and the freedom! I’m 16 months in. The first 6 months were difficult (second guessing, catching the new color in various reflections) but by month 9 I loved the color and was SO ready to cut off the dye. I cut a little too short, and now I’m growing it out. I still have about 1 1/2 inches of dye left to cut off. I’ve set my expectations for 2 years to have the length I want AND all the dye cut off. 😄

Watching many videos on the subject. At 62 this has been on my mind for a few years now. Trying to remove chemicals from my body and putting them on my scalp every few weeks makes no sense. I'm about 2 months since I've done my roots and it's hard.

This video helped me so much with my indecision and insecurity about my hair. I'm about to color mine silver to stop the constant battle against the gray. I'm 40 years old and started getting gray at 35. This is something I'm excited about as I feel exasperated with the current look and lack of enthusiasm I have with it now. However, I still am a bit anxious and also hoping I can do this successfully. Going to a salon is a horrifying experience for me and if I mess it up I'll probably just be stuck with it until I decide something else. Yes what a pain in the a** I am lol. Anyway I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience. Wish me luck! ❤️🤞

It looks like you’re pulling orange/red. Try No More Orange by Fanola. Make a 1:3 ratio shampoo to water paste and put on dry hair for 15-30 min (do test chunk, not strand, chunk of hair) rinse and your hair will be amazing. It’s THE BOMB for Grey hair that pulls red/orange. Once a month. It’ll be your saviour! Overtone. Run, do NOT use it. It’s the anti-Grey hair product ever made. I don’t have the strength to text the whole horrendous story but years of therapy and maybe I’ll be ok. There are a million toners like Wella T18 (you tube it. Tons of info) and Pravana Direct Dyes if u feel like a burst of fun color one day that washes out in a few shampoos. I went WHITE starting at 20. My parents were 17 and 19. Mom turned it into a blonde and dad just let it go full on Kenny Rogers. I dyed it forever as I’m a real Ginger and then I got sick and no more chemicals as well as a lot less hair. It came back Platinum WHITE (the color girls pay a fortune for or attempt to get and fry their hair off....yep, THAT Platinum. Blessed. I’ll find one good thing out of all this if I can!!) and I haven’t looked back. It’s now below my shoulders for the most part other than some patches still coming in but they’re white as well! So I went through your dilemma of learning my tone and ensuring no orange or yellow pops out and finding my “lighting” must be perfect for a selfie, LOL! First world problems! All is great and getting better and I’ve found great hair products, I wear different makeup Colors and clothes and now I wear more scarves and hats etc when wearing a white shirt! Gotta add that pop of color with WHITE ON WHITE as there is NO way I’m getting rid of some of my beautiful favourite white shirts LOL! Enjoy the journey, your hair is beautiful and this color is definitely becoming your AUTHENTIC color!! So many changes come with this commitment that you’ll be surprised by them as they pop up. Grey hair does NOT mean “old” anymore!! To me, this journey brought me to a place of personal empowerment, even on a bad or no hair day. Amazing how hair can do that to us. “It’s just hair” isn’t in my vocabulary anymore as that is like saying “it’s just an arm”. It’s an extension (no pun intended) of me. Of who I was, who I grew into and now, who I’m becoming. Every day is a journey to that riddle. One thing I did notice through all of this crazy journey is that my hair is indeed an extension of who I am and the best part, no matter my style or length or if I add a crazy streak of purple.......I NEVER have a “bad” hair day.....not anymore and never again. It here, it’s healthy and white and almost 100% but there are NO BAD HAIR DAYS! Not much more freeing than that! Stay on the path girl, you’re absolutely stunning and a smile that could light up NYC in a black out. While you will find your perfect destination, please....remember to enjoy the journey. Everyone has a story. Everyone ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Your end result looks fabulous. Your hair texture is so beautiful! I’m 43 and have salt and pepper. I’ve been coloring my hair off and on for 30 years but didn’t see much grey til my early 40s. I hope more women off all ages embrace their natural hair color. Truth be told my own grey hair doesn’t bother me I just hate when other people point it out. I haven’t colored my hair in 2 months and playing around with the idea of doing a silver money piece. I think we all have the same fear that grey hair will age us but I think either way the right hairstyle, clothing and makeup I can rock it.

Wow....looks great! I love what you had to say in the beginning of the video....I feel EXACTLY the same way. Since the pandemic situation closed all the salons, I have let my grey come in and I'm liking it as well. I am a natural dark brunette. I am 60 and I think I am going to stop coloring my hair. My roots are pretty silver...my hair his long and straight. I work in healthcare, so I wear a mask and goggles all day long and my hair is pulled back....So...I am just going to let it grow out and pull it back until I can eventually cut off the light caramel colored highlights. I am not brave enough to bleach my hair, but I love the look you achieved. You look great! thanks for your inspiration!
