I cut my hair to a pixie when I had chemo - I was a curly red head. But after the treatments I was white in the front, red patch and blond patch in the back - I looked like a calico cat with straight hair, which was amusing. I went to my stylist and we decided to go with the dominant colour - so toned and then white. Three months later I developed darker roots so I just tone them out. My hair is strong and healthy and I am letting it grow. I swim everyday (I wait a few days after I have it treated) but I use a silicone cap which does not pull my hair, actually my hair does not get wet. So that's my grey story. I have a blood cancer so I am plagued with dark circles around my eyes. Your videos on dark circles, colour correcting and you eye lip primer (which I buy 2 at a time) have fixed my dark circles for the first time in my life. You have given me confidence in my look - I don't always look sick, tired or chalky - so thank you, thank you, thank you. Your videos inspire and encourage me - bless you!!

I’ve been transitioning to gray for about 20 months. Even though I’m 70 I am probably only about 30 percent gray and I love how my natural hair is a pretty dark brown with sparkles all over. The benefit is freedom from the salon visits and also the health of natural hair. Nikol you are so caring and positive. Thank you for showing us the way!

Chemo therapy at 54 put me on the fast track to accepting my grey/silver hair as it grew back. Now I adore it. Seeing woman in their late 60’s with tinted hair just looks silly to me now. Embrace your natural transition! So happy to see this content being shared .

You’re so right. Seeing an older woman with obviously dyed hair looks unnatural. Also, our skin tone changes as we age, and dyed hair does NOT compliment it.

I'm 41 and started going gray in my mid 30's. Because of Covid I have been covering my head at work (I'm a nurse) and I have let my gray hair come in. I'm loving my natural highlights! I'm not ashamed or offended by people's comments on the amount of gray hair I have. I'm a rebel by nature and this just makes me feel even more rebellious! It's nice to be different and feel great about it. Thanks for inspiring!

I am in awe of Jack Martin! The most interesting part of his posts that stand out to me, is the way in almost every case the woman's skin seems to just glow at the end. It shows me how harsh those artificial colors made me look. I always think the woman looks younger at the end!

I went cold turkey at the beginning of the pandemic. I was thinking about it for about 2 years before that but because of my corporate job I didn't think it would look great professionally. Like you, I felt insecure, not very attractive, all the things. I managed it by wearing hats, headbands and scarfs. I think the secret is to keep your hair healthy and well trimmed throughout the process. I kept up my hair trims and always styled my hair as I usually did. You were one of my inspirations and I used to show your picture to my hairstylist. I recommend going cold turkey. You learn so much about yourself during the process. You are right - you must be ready - you're either in or out.

I dyed my hair for so so long, I'm now 42 and I'm almost 75% gray. I decided 11 months ago that I wanted dreadlocks, while on this amazing journey of finding myself I decided to stop dying my gray. I would love to speed it up, but I won't. I can't wait to see it all grown out, it's a journey right along with my locs!

In 2009, I transitioned from coloring my hair by shaving my head. It felt very liberating. Until it grew out, though, I got a lot of odd looks and questions of “Are you trying to be a man?” Had your “going grey” videos were around at that time, it would’ve made the transition easier.

I was trying to go grey & you are right about going grey. I felt terrible about my self. I was feeling Very self- conscious & insecure when I was growing it out. Emotionally i was a mess. Then Covid hit & I did go into a deep depression. I love all the tones & contrast in your hair. My next trip to the salon is when my hairdresser & I will come up with a game plan. I’m 70 & they have been telling me that I don’t have enough grey & silver in my hair & it’s basically in the front around my face. I really want to embrace my grey I have started doing hot oil treatments & have stopped using heat products for the past 5 years. I let it going natural & use a bit of moose to keep the curls in. My natural colour is a dark auburn. Last fall she did my hair brown & I was going to let the silver/?gray come in. Needless to say, I hated the brown, I was ruddy looking, had no sparkle & felt ancient. I think a fast track may work for me best because I’m not very patient. I’m having trouble finding the words to explain how I wax feeling @ the time. I tried to find a wig store but could not. I wanted to see how I would feel about myself & try a wig. Thanks for your help Nikol. Your an inspiration to me. Much love❣️

Hi Nikol. I’m just discovering you now. I gotta laugh because I feel the same way you do. I don’t care what others say or do. I’m 57 years old and I look great. Yes I have signs of aging and my skin isn’t perfect but I’m healthy. I decided to go gray this year. It’s been on my mind now for over a year and then all these KZbin channels came up with going grey. Your channel is one of my favorites. I actually love the gray coming through. I have blonde coloring and it really looks amazing. I just wanted to say thank you for your support and encouragement. Finally someone who is an advocate for us mature ladies. 😘❤️

What an encouraging video, Nikol! My bio hair is a very dark brown, about 10% silver. Unfortunately, it's been thinning massively over the last few years. So I decided to be bold, fierce and unapologetic in wearing wigs! I choose to wear silvers, cool greys, whites, and fashion greys. Rather than trying to match my bio hair, the lighter hair definitely brightens my face.

I’m so happy that women are claiming themselves …going gray, accepting their bodies, their faces, owning their God-given beauty. I’m not against “tweaking” or anything else a woman feels she personally needs as long as she’s not being a slave to mass marketing, artificial Hollywood or Vogue stereotypes. Let the “sisters” reclaim their Amazonian power…mentally, physically and most of all spiritually. And most of all let’s embrace, support and encourage one another.

I transitioned in 2016. Absolutely never questioned it. Only get compliments, because I wear it with confidence. Mine was easy because I always highlighted, and have light brown hair. I have the white strips in front, and it’s funny because I always had highlights framing my face. Great info. 😊

I am 89 weeks in cold turkey. I also love and admire Jack Martin's work but it is hair color that he's applying and it requires maintenance. There are very few colorists who can do what he does-I do believe he gives you a list of the products he used on your hair. The first few months were tough and I wore hats, headbands, etc. I had lots of regrowth, particularly in my crown, and I get lots of compliments. Nikol, you were one of the women who really inspired and encouraged me. I love your channel. Thank you!

I only told a couple and it will be interesting when i go to a family Thanksgiving gathering. I am ready for the comments as I know they will think it odd that I have am salt and pepper proud and my mom still colors her hair. She still has mixed emotions about me going grey, but as she sees how confident I am, the more is comfortable with my choice.

You have to be comfortable with your choices not your family. It's your hair. My family doesn't like my choice and I haven't been happier. Men and women both love it! There are people who look at you as if they never saw someone with grey hair. Mine is grey..white and dark. I have natural stripes and highlights. I'm 15 months in.

I stopped fighting the gray about three years ago. I'm fully gray now. I had been rocking a chin length bob but I changed it up to a jaw length hybrid shag/wolf cut this past weekend. The layers in this cut amplify the different tones of silver/gray/blackish brown. I've had at leave five total strangers stop me and ask about my hair since Saturday.

I have been wearing wigs for 18 years now (with my hair clipped right down) and there’s so many times I would love to just have my natural hair tied up in a bun on a hot day, so I’ve decided to just grow my hair out natural gray. Last winter I attempted this and when it got to be 2” long I started to colour it my natural dark brown. By the time it was 5 inches long it looks so unhealthy and I hated constantly dying my roots. I shaved it all off last month and I am starting from scratch with no dying anymore. I am taking very good care of my hair health and embracing the gray. I still have my wigs which I enjoy to wear when I feel like it.

My last root color was Feb’21. Talked with my stylist then about transitioning to my natural gray. She added low lights and highlights in April. After that I told her I wanted to just let it happen so I’m only getting a gloss on it now when I get it cut to help tone the brassiness of my dyed color. I’m loving seeing the different shades of my natural color - really light on one side, a little less white/silver on the other side and darker in the back. I can hardly wait to be totally transitioned!

There's always those semi/demi permanent hair colors you can use during that transition phase so there isn't that stark line. That's what I used when I was switching back from using henna to regular hair dyes(you aren't supposed to use regular dye over henna can result in green hair). I think that's the route I"m going to go for now to switch over to whatever grey/silver color comes in for me. Only down side to those semi permanent colors, they don't lighten your hair if it's dark.

I am on that journey my hair is very fine but thankfully I do have a lot of hair. I decided to get some fun hair extensions full head and single stands in silver and grey and a salt and pepper elastic curly chignon hair bun scrunchy for some fun and oh so easy updos. I went to the salon and got 15 inches cut of my hair it about the length of your hair now, I got a vintage bob slightly layered at the bottom. I have silver/white and grey roots just under 2" . I have used the salt and pepper hair bun for a quick and easy updo for 3 days in a row now and I love it. Pulling back my bangs into the high updo really shows of my silver/white and grey roots in the best possible ways. Thank you for sharing your journey I like your videos and your personality!

Awesome video. You’re a great motivator. Thx for sharing. I’ve been dying my hair blonde since I was 15! I’ll be 70 in August! Enough! I have grey white bangs which happened over the pandemic. Each month I dye less now I have about 1 inch in the front. I’m getting a haircut soon and I’ve colored it for the last time. Most hair dyes can cause cancer too so … good luck to all

I decided to let myself go grey in the first lockdown. I use purple shampoo occasionally and have had more complements then I ever did with brown hair.

Dear Nikol, you once mentioned a very expensive perfume that's got a spray you put in your hair that's much cheaper. What is it called? Thank you.

Sadly no Jack Martin or equivalent, in London, but perhaps it's a blessing in disguise, I'm currently on month 4 of going cold turkey, I've seen many women around London ditching the dye and letting their hair do it's thing. I actually think it looks cool, and have had many compliments. It's key to look after yourself and look presentable, at any age, a good hair cut is essential.

I used 10 months of working from home due to the Pandemic to let my colour grow out. The salons were closed for a lot of those 10 months. In total my hair wasn't cut or colour for 12 months. When we were recalled to the office, I booked a hair appointment with my hairdresser and he cut my hair into a bob and put a neutraliser on to remove the brassiness in my coloured ends. I am actually enjoying the colour that remains on the ends and the shorter length. I am not liking the purple shampoo and conditioner. I am still to find one that brightens the white and neutralises the brassiness but doesn't leave a violet glow in my hair. I really dislike the violet tint.

I had the same issue at the beginning. What I did was apply the violet shampoo to the tips for 10 minutes prior to washing my hair. Rinse out. Then I would either use regular shampoo to wash or violet shampoo if the hair needed brightening. That’s what worked for me!❤️

I'm going gray, I know the feeling of wanting to be done fast, but I'm going to transition naturally as my hair grows, and cutting off the dye hair!

I’ve transitioned with my hairstylist’s help. Now we are only doing toning. The water where I’m at is very hard and really makes hair brassy. I use a purple shampoo but still need her help. Toning is helpful if done right.

Awesome video 👩🏻‍🦳🥰 I’m 20 months in cold turkey, I still have a few inches of blond left and will cut it in the spring to be fully transitioned as I like my hair a bit longer. I was like you from the start, I felt bold and fierce, still do. Thank you for everything you do 🙏🏼🥰

Exactly what I did...I stayed focused. But as it was winter that helped a lot. Then, I started getting compliments, which I didn't and couldn't believe..until my Brothers said same. It's Such a relief not to worry about roots showing 😔😔...Only negative is, I can't go to the Disco... anymore...

My hair has been self highlighting in the front for the past few years. The back is darker like yours but more of an ashy brown. I tried having champagne streaks added by I didn’t like what they did to my baby fine hair. So now the champagne has nearly grown out and I love it. I do use a purple shampoo and conditioner by Aveda once a month. I’d love to try a gloss. Which one did you use?

I have not colored my hair since Dec. 9, 2020. I was SO SICK and TIRED of coloring. When I colored on 12/9 - I did it because I was going to my BFF's daughter's wedding. I made a firm decision right then and there that I was not going to color again.....cold turkey. And you know what, I said 'if I don't like it, I'll just color again.' It was just too much work and stress. I am 52 years old and it is what it is. I have been coloring for 27 years, from the first time I saw the first grey hair. Ironically, the color I was worried about is my favorite. I was so worried I was going to have that dull grey hair - but guess what - I'm pretty much platinum now. Of course, I still have darker ends, but everything flows. I found a purple mousse I LOVE. It keeps the brassiness down.

I've been dyeing my hair for ages and when I have roots showing they're all white, all over my head for as far as I can see. Maybe I'll be silver white in one go if I let it grow for a bit and then do a pixy cut? 🤔
