You're a legend mate. Looking at the smoke to tune low and high end is so smart and so simple. I can't believe I never thought of it like that! I will try this tomorrow. I find the most confusing thing about tuning is that when the motor cuts out (similar to how you showed on the low speed needle) knowing whether it was cutting out due to rich or lean. However if you just look at the amount of smoke I guess that is your answer. Cool! P.S I also have a HPI rush evo. I have had it for 10 years probably. I love that little car and I can't see it go. I flushed her out with mentholated spirits recently and got it going again. Cheers for the videos and regards from Melbourne Australia.

Great explanations. I’m in the middle of tuning a replacement carb (Force) on a 1/10 touring car. Still lots of stalling when going from idle to midrange but the ‘pinch’ test seems ok (3sec)? Maybe a fraction too lean still? Also was intermittently hard to turn over on pull start so too lean? Going to look at glow plug condition as well. Cheers from 🇦🇺

hi mate, for some reason I can't get my truck rpm to come down properly for whatever reason it just wants to take off all the time. carb gap is set at 1mm. I've tried resetting to factory settings which should be all flush to body but my low speed seems to be way too lean at that setting. even when I adjust the the idle screw it does not seem to make a difference rpm is still high. tried richening low speed rpm still high. any ideas? really starting to rack my brain

Hey question for ya! You know when you explain the "take over" coming off RPM's and back to idle? So, u know in first half of video if you gave it a tiny bit of throttle blip after doing that it would bog the idle and then rev back up to normal idle? I assume thats happening because as engine sits there idling it loads up on fuel, then if you dont clear most of it out on throttle blip it bogs down because its still overly rich from fuel load up on prior long idle? ... what can be done to minimize or get rid of it completely? My nitro struggles w/ potentially stalling at that point sometimes.
@smiff1989074 жыл бұрын
Hi dude, not related to this brand in the video but I could do with your knowledge and guidance. I’ve just bought a traxxas slash 3.3 and upon the break in procedure, the car will not idle and accelerates upon starting. I’ve adjusted the linkage, set the idle screw to 1mm gap, played with trim etc with no joy. As per the manual it states no to make any alterations to hsn/lsn until a 6 tank beak in procedure, do you have any recommendations? You’ve gotten yourself a new subby 🙂

Great informative video rusty. Can I just ask though, I’ve seen loads of nitro engines with the cable ties through the head. What does that do? My Savage has given me nothing but problems with the spur gear melting on tickover but I think there was problems with the clutch shoes. I’ve replaced all that and just waiting on some half decent weather to get out with it and see how it goes. I’ve asked for a trophy Truggy for my 35th birthday next month so we’ll see what I get lol
@HaggardRC5 жыл бұрын
Haha lets hope you get one! The cable ties with fuel tubes on them are meant to stop your engine getting scratched if you flip it over without a shell on or if your shell doesn't cover the engine. I do it because I like the look mainly though.

Hahaha so many mistakes in this video. You congratulate yourself on having a double idle. Which should be eliminated. You tune the low speed needle first, which is second. You tell beginners to touch the mid speed needle. You tune the high speed after the low which should be first. And you fail to talk about the idle gap which is critical to balance with the low speed. This is FAR from the best tuning video on the internet.
