How I Turned $1200 into 5+ Years of Traveling

One of the greatest joys of the last 5+ years of my life has been my ability to travel. I have been blessed to visit over 20 states, 3 foreign countries, 3 national parks, and countless cities and towns all over the US.
If you had told me in 2014 that I would have ever become a nomad I would have laughed very loudly in your face. I didn't know anything about traveling, just about the only thing I did know was that it cost money to travel and I didn't have any. I wasn't broke, broke, broke...but I was broke, broke.
Fortunately I was blessed to come across a website www.coolworks.com that showed me a way to travel for cheap. I was able to take the $1200 I had to my name and use it and my new found knowledge of seasonal work to start traveling. And I've never looked back.
If you are bored living in the same city or small town you have been living in for years and you want to get out and see the rest of your country and eventually the world I highly recommend seasonal work. It truly changed my life.

Appreciate your videos & input very much! Been on the fence for trying this type of lifestyle, especially after Covid hit. It's easy to get stuck or trapped in the 9-5 hamster wheel. Hard for a lot of ppl to leave their basic comforts also. I'd like to make the jump once my debt is all paid off. Housing & food are usually the 2/3 biggest expenses for most ppl (along with transportation, which probably wouldn't be much of an issue either for seasonal work). Great to hear that most of these type of jobs cover that or take it out of your check. Keep the vids coming!

Great content Tim! Very much needed people need that know how info. I spent years traveling while working a 9 to 5 and it was a battle you had to beg for 2 weeks off or put in a year for a week. I understand what its like to choose travel over a desk job. I have also left a position if it was taking up too much time but, I also know there are times when you need to put in that work so you can bounce and do you.

Tim, if I did this seasonal work, I'd have to put all my belongings into a local storage unit where I live, which would be fine. What I'd like to know is, what items would I need to have with me before setting off for a seasonal job location? Should I go ahead and purchase black, non-slip shoes? How about other items that I'd need to bring? Also, how would I secure things that are sensitive or valuable to me, like my laptop, and other items I'd like to take with me for documenting my experience and staying in contact with my family? Thank you for your advice.

Question, when you are provided housing and meals, is that contingent on working full-time (40 hours)? Or is it possible to do seasonal work but part time (like 25 hours?) and still get the housing and meal benefits? Do u work 7 days a week or have the option to work 3 days a week? Also, what about transportation? Say you are working in a national park for 3 months but also want to explore places outside of the park on your free days. Is there a shuttle or bus that is provided for you? What has your experience been? Thank you!
@TimothyWard
@TimothyWard 3 жыл бұрын
The meals aren't contingent on you working 40 hours every week, but most positions are full time, with a standard 2 days off a week. The transportation depends on the property and location. Some national parks have really a good shuttle system some don't. Occasionally, the seasonal employer might have buses that take employees around the area, into town, etc. but this more the exception than the rule.

@TimothyWard

I saved my money while working seasonal jobs to buy my plane tickets to travel. And I did have a few side hustles online that made me some travel money too. If I ever thought I was going to run out of money I just went to another seasonal job and maybe worked a longer season.
