That is awesome!! You should plan on looking for gems every time you go out now. Lol. Spinel is one of my favorite gem stones. The Timur Ruby (170 carats) once in Queen Elizabeth's neckless is actually Spinel. It is now mounted in the British Imperial Crown. Some Spinel can have a six-sided star when cut as a cabochon. My dad, his brothers and grand dad used to prospect Reedy Creek back in the 1930s, 1940s. From his stories, it was a very productive creek. One of the uncles, Uncle Lin, wasn't that interested in fossicking, and would usually go off with his rifle to do a bit of shooting. According to dad, one time he wandered back to where the rest of the family were working down in the creek. He was sitting up on the creek bank, and with his sheath knife, levered a very large nugget out of some exposed rock.
