Thanks for the video on how you burn in your shop. I'm gonna do a build like this soon for my own. I've burned in wood stoves, but never a double barrel setup. Like to watch quick little videos of good ol boys keepin it simple. Take care, Gordon.

@gleasonsimpson3310

TSIRHC SEVAS two barrels haha.. just kidding friend. The difference is you get twice the heat. If you have a bigger space to heat the double ones are really good. Also, check out some you tube videos on the ones with pipes and a fan on the top barrel. That is what I have. It puts out tons of heat. I installed a ceiling fan in my shop and I swear the thing will run you out of the shop if you don’t keep the fire down. Haha Hope that helped friend. :)

You can find them on Craigslist, around here they can be found for $10 to $20 each, you can look for a business that uses product in 55 gal drums and they will give them to you free.The single barrel kit does a fine job too.

Those double barrel stoves have been around since Heck was a pup. You could improve the fire box with a great to keep the fire out of the ashes. It wouldn't be that hard to cut that area out where the draft is and make an ash tray that slides in and out for cleaning. I would raise the door up near the top of the bottom barrel to make room for the draft and the ash tray. The great could be made out of some scrap three eights or half inch angle iron or something similar. That chimney damper was used to keep all the heat from going out the stack. That is the way Montana sheepherders do it.

A grate is not neccesary for these stoves, all it does is burn the wood faster if you have good dry wood you wont need it and it will hold coals longer, I used one for years

@@timidater4803 Bricks on the bottom are totally unnecessary too. I've used barrel stoves for 40 plus years and have never had to replace a barrel because of it burning out the bottom. Creosote eating holes in the side around the flue pipe is normally my problem.

Once the axe is planted in the wood, you can just lift and drop the piece of wood without ever removing the axe and it’ll cut through. You don’t need to hit it w a hammer. I hope to make a stove or two at some point. Nothing like having some good Woodstove heat in the shop.

My old house had a Fisher wood stove & that thing would put out some heat, now I am never home enough to even make it feasible to have one. Good thing I have a never ending supply of waste oil:)
@57bagre
@57bagre 6 жыл бұрын
I had a waste oil stove in there when I was driving OTR, it was a "cheap" one at $2200 at the time, it was a lot of trouble to get it going and the oil had to be warm or it would not burn, I had to mix gas in the starter pan with a piece of cardboard for a wick. When I went to local I started the stump and tree work on the side and quickly went back to wood and sold that oil burner and a couple of barrels of oil for $700 and threw in one of the two magnetic electric oil pan heaters I had to buy to make the thing work. Never again buy another one like that. The high dollar ones are more automatic but would never pay for itself in my case, I only change oil twice a year now that I'm local and I always have wood from the side job.

I have been running it in my furnace for a year with no problems, once in a while I will dump in 5 gallons of diesel just to thin it out but since my oil tank is already in the basement it does not get cold enough to make it real thick. I made up my mind I was not paying 3 bucks a gallon to heat a house I rarely am at. If it screws something up I have 2 replacement burners I got from a friend but so far no problems, my next place will have an outdoor wood fire unit to heat my water & heat the house:)

If you have a side that radiates heat towards heat-sensistive surfaces or objects, stack a small wall of cinder-blacks there, and they will become a thermal moderater, holding some of the heat and continuing to release it into the room after the fire is out.

I use wood pellets to start my stove, an ice cream tub full and a propane torch to light it, if you can use outside air for combustion, every cubic foot of air the goes up the flue has to be drawn in from outside around windows and doors cracks.

how long is your burn time per load.I dont have much hard wood so keep feeding it every 30-45 min is best I've done
@57bagre
@57bagre 5 жыл бұрын
Once it is burning good and loaded full, it will burn 8 to 12 hours. A little stove won't last long because it won't hold much at a time. If you are loading that often, you must have the damper wide open or not have one at all. You could start a house fire if you don't use a damper. Thanks for watching.

So what's the point of the top barrel
@philips.5563
@philips.5563 4 жыл бұрын
The smoke heats up the top barrel, which basically doubles the warm surface area of the stove. That surface area is what heats the surrounding air, so more surface area can significantly improve the heating efficiency of the system.

Nice video for anyone who has never used a wood stove. I think the paper + kindling + oil + blowtorch is a little overkill, if you have a torch some paper and wood is probably fine. If you just have a small amount of fast kindling then the structure of your wood matters more. It's hard to tell how close your sill plate is but I have seen that burn when the stove gets very hot so you can either move the stove or place some brinks in front between the wood and the stove.
