An important thing to remember when using Maschine with global swing enabled is to paint in a hi-hat pattern to the grid resolution you're working at, and export that to make a groove template in Logic so it can be applied to other parts.

Do you work in the exact same way? I think it’s great however if you decide to add something in maschine after you’ve dragged the midi from maschine into logic then as soon as you press record on maschine the midi notes already in logic get recorded back into maschine. Is there a way around this that you know of?
@Demuir Жыл бұрын
@@dannykirsch I do work in the exact same way. You can re-record by letting the midi run with Maschine in record or paint the additional instance in.
@dannykirsch Жыл бұрын
@@Demuir Good point about painting the notes in however I don’t like working that way and prefer to always play the pads. What I mean is that let’s say for example I’ve recorded a kick, clap and open hi hat pattern in maschine and I’ve dragged the pattern into Logic Pro. I then delete the midi in maschine or just select pattern 2. Then later I decide to record a closed hi hat pattern in maschine using note repeat. As soon as I hit record in maschine in order to record in the closed hi hat pattern while the kick, clap and op hh are playing back in logic that kick, clap and op hh pattern are going to be recorded back into maschine from logic. Is there anyway to prevent that from happening? Also working this way can one only use group A?

how would you set up the templates for if you use like 2 groups in Maschine??

Hi - I'm good with 1 group for my workflow as I dedicate Maschine to accent my drums. I imagine it's possible to have more than one, but I haven't had the need to go down that road.
@halebopp17 Жыл бұрын
cheers for this. it finally all made sense. I used Maschine standalone always but this was easy to follow and setup. One thing I still don't fully understand is how to route Maschine sounds when you have multiple groups in Maschine and with different soundsets on each group. Is there a way to route the other groups sounds to Logic? Or you create another instrument track for another maschine instance in Logic? How would this work?
@Demuir Жыл бұрын
I don’t use multiple groups because my core use of Maschine is for drums whose sounds I can easily swap out and also isolate from a mix down perspective. However, you may be ok if you assign certain “groups” of sounds to pad 1 to 4 let’s say and then do the next group on pads 5 to 8 considering you have over 16 pads and you can mix them down individually. Just a thought. Good luck!

@Demuir Жыл бұрын

@dannykirsch Жыл бұрын
Great video. Will try this set up. Question though especially as you’re making mostly house bears it seems. What is the advantage of using maschine as an AU plug-in versus not using maschine at all and just using Logic Pro? Obviously you get to use pads rather than just the keys on your usb keyboard controller but is there anything else really? In logic I drag samples from splice straight into the sampler and you can easily swap out drums sounds etc afterwards. In terms of maschine’s swing you can drag a hh midi pattern into logic and create a swing template which you can apply to Logic Pro. I just wonder whether your workflow would be even faster not having maschine in the equation at all? For example what if after you’ve dragged in your midi you want to add something else in maschine? I guess one advantage of using maschine rather than just logic is note repeat. Is there anything else? I get that you have all the drum samples laid out for you but then you could also do that in logic (can’t recall the name of that sampler). I’m just in two minds as to whether I really need maschine any longer or whether I should just sell it? Really love this video however please would you help me decide what to do bearing in mind my comments/questions above? 🤔Finally do you prefer maschine over the mpc for house music etc? Is maschine’s swing as good as mpc? What percentage of swing do you typically use on maschine?
@Demuir Жыл бұрын
Good observations. My main reason for this workflow is control in the ability to swap out sounds from Maschine’s vast library and flexibility to insert my own sampled sounds in there. Second advantage is song arrangement… have them as midi clips is much better for me when it comes to song arrangement. I really don’t like it in Maschine. As for swing, you can do the midi templates and I have a few of them already embedded in my template in Logic, but Maschine allows you to swing at the instrument and global level. I love how quick and accessible this is. And how it’s embedded in the midi clips when I drag the pattern into Logic. I rarely use the overall (Global) swing in Maschine, but having the option is nice. I mainly use Maschine’s swing options at the instrument level (eg. Closed hat or whatever).
@dannykirsch Жыл бұрын
@@Demuir thanks so much for your comprehensive reply however the reasons you give are great when you compare your workflow versus using Maschine as a vet inside of Logic Pro the 'normal' way but I don't know whether there are advantages of your workflow versus not using Maschine at all and only using Logic Pro so I'm still confused 🤔

Hey Demuir I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel. It's been quite informative Thanks... Right about now I'm looking for a workaround for my Machine MK1 with my MacBook Pro M1 Monterey without any luck, I hope they come up with a solution to that soon. But I have a question which is can you use the software without the hardware? I just thought I'd ask here as it seems a cool place to start. I also have push 1 but as I moved over to logic not sure if that will work as well or as good. But once again thanks for the knowledge .
@Demuir2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mandel - I have succumbed to the fact that once I move to the new M based chips and Monterey, my Mk 1 will need to be retired and i will need to upgrade. For me, it's not necessarily about the kits, but more so on individual sound selection and what role they play. So, for example, I would focus on a snare or particular hi-hat... Long time viewer, first time caller… I wrestle with Maschine 2 plugin versus just using the device as a generic midi device. You could just use the pads, knobs, buttons with Logic’s Drum Machine Designer and Logic’s step editor and pattern regions - by using the device in midi mode. Is there an advantage to using the Maschine 2 plugin?

Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial! I saw 3 other videos prior to watching yours and they all left out important steps, including a video from Native Instruments! Lol. I have been using Maschine for years, I’m a singer/songwriter and have always wanted to use Maschine in this way along with Logic so that I can sing sections as I am creating in order to inspire the productions. I knew it had the integration capabilities but in the past, I would just go back and forth between both programs, I wasn’t sure if it would help my workflow. I can see now that it will. My question now would be, after the midi has been dragged from Maschine to Logic, does that mean the rest of the production should only be added through Logic, or can/should you change parts on Maschine and then just drag the midi from Maschine again? Which is the smartest way to work once it's dragged. Do the changes you make in Maschine automatically change the midi data in Logic? I like the way Maschine lays out part of the recording process. I guess I’m just searching for the best way to produce/arrange while being able to record vocals for different sections as I go along and how to handle new parts added or changes made after you drag the midi. Not sure if I am explaining this correctly, my apologies, I am tired, it’s been a long day. Lol But anyhow, thanks again for this amazing video!!! Very informative and very helpful!!

You may not have the most up to date library from NI. Download and install 2.0 or higher.

Greetings, great video. BUT I have a question. In Logic when you select multiple output it does all the work you did on individual tracks for you. There should be a small arrow that you kick on the track and it will show all 16 channels . I was wondering why you did the setup the way you did instead of just using the already mapped out tracks?

Thanks for watching and I’m not sure I’m following your question. Maschine provides the option of multiple outs... I select multiple out to have control of each individual pad (1 to 16) so I can program, eq, and gain stage each piece accordingly on ONE instance of the VST only.

i saw you paste in the patterns by drawing them in. but how do i play the patterns in
@Demuir Жыл бұрын
I don’t draw the patterns in. I play them with the Maschine pads…when I’m satisfied, I then drag it into the DAW. I can’t paint note in afterward ls to manipulate small things, but I rarely do that.

@Demuir Great video. This workflow has helped me immensely so thank you :-) Quick question, how do you manage pre fader levels and levels in general when doing this routing? Do you touch the Maschine Sound or Group levels? Or do you just use Logic faders once it's in there?
@Demuir3 жыл бұрын
I pretty much just leave the Logic faders where they are and gain stage with console 1 since it’s on every channel.

Doesn’t you loose the groove swing parameters when exporting from Machine making the beat more static??
@Demuir Жыл бұрын
Nope…. It’s the core reason why my music has swing.

@@Demuir ok have to try to export the midi as per your demo in this video. But previously all global or group swing setting is gone when exporting individual sounds… My new try is to midi trigger scenes from logic and keep the seq beats in machine and export bounce when final thru external channels with machine seq in sync with logic…
@Demuir Жыл бұрын
@@djcrillo8445 it’s all about the midi. You can see once you drag it in… you can swing individual instruments and it comes with the midi. Good luck!

I used your template but it won't record just using the pads, it only records in step mode...did i miss something?
@Demuir2 жыл бұрын
It must be your setting for midi within the vst…I recommend starting from scratch as you may have missed a step.
