Deja Vu! We bought our house back in 2013 in Page, AZ. It would take me 6 years to renovate. Im a retired nurse of 27 years. Im 54. Like you this house would be our ticket to move to the Philippines. Back in 2010 and 2012 we bought land and farms here in the Philippines. So it was always our plan to be here upon my retirement but we decided to sell the house and retire early. We started building our house here in the Philippines in 2018 but it was delayed some during Covid. But we finished it when we moved here in 2022. So we are trying to make money now with our farms and sari sari store. Lol! We too have a YT channel. The Walker Explorer. Best of luck to you.

I admire your journey to the Philippines at a young age. I wish I had all my ducks lined up earlier also. My goal is to be there by 60 in 13 months. 🙏🏼 Bisaya or Visayan language. Yes June is hot, just like every month in the Philippines, April and May or the true test hottest months in the Philippines. Regular heat index numbers over 110 up to 120.

If you have a wife , kids that depend on you, don’t move to the Philippines. If have need medication 💊 every week or month, don’t move to the Philippines.
@dsrrellgriffith11615 күн бұрын
You are so funny,,,,good credit? hahaha,,,They do not check your credit, and they do not care about income. You just give them the deposit, and copy of your passport. thats it,,,I rented condo in cebu for 7 years, i always got my full deposit back. I use rentpad website. The agents are usually good, if u rent from a direct owner then u might not get your deposit back full. The condos can be hit and miss, i had noise issues in a lot of them. Other condo owners making too much noise late at night, airbnb people who party all night,,,etc,,,,Construction on other condo construction can go all night sometimes. etc

You interested in buying nice durable house an lot will last you life time.
@BackwoodsEXPatriot4 күн бұрын
Take a trip over here and stay a while before selling everything is my advice. Maybe stay in manila or cebu at first and explore from there. The real philippines, out here in the provinces and less popular islands life is very different from what a person experiences in manila or cebu or dumaguette. So just k own yourself and explore around before choosing a spot to settle. Housing is a wide variety...depending on budget and location, there's luxury condos and then there's basically nipa huts you can rent for $30 per month...again, it depends on who you are personally. There's no such thing as credit here, you pay in cash and no one asks questions.

best wishes! how is the food there? did you have to learn the language or is it easy to get by using english?
@BackwoodsEXPatriot8 күн бұрын
@ok-hd4so the food is hit and miss. They use lots of vegetables and small amounts of meat. It's very easy to use only english for simple conversations. Most all Filipinos know some english. I am slowly picking up on some Basayan but it's difficult since their sentence structures are different. Thanks for watching!

The only problem I see here is the fact that you're still young. When it's time to collect social security that check will be very small and you currently only have a small investment that you're living off.
@BackwoodsEXPatriot5 күн бұрын
@marcus22771 I'm not counting on social security anyway...To be honest the way i feel about it, I wouldn't take it if given anyway. I know i paid into it and it's mine by right, but morally I feel better taking responsibility for my own retirement and feel proud to basically say screw the government is don't need them

Interesting story, i can't help think you sold your house too cheaply...only $100k more than you paid, less your renos cost, less legal fees, taxes etc during covid boom.. anyhow i really hope you can successfully retire at 40 in phils.. good luck
@BackwoodsEXPatriot5 күн бұрын
In my area that's what the house appraised for...I was into it a total of $73,000...so after agent fees i walked away with $87,000 in pure profit so with an investment of $73k that's an 83% profit margin or a little more than 10% per year...I figure that's better than any high yield savings, money market or even S&P 500. So far it's going good with my financial strategy and since I'm living on less than $1000 usd per month it's not difficult...thanks for watching!!
